I'm thinking it should be something like flick up with 1 finger to download and
flick down with 1 finger to add to wish list.

JMHO!

No download option, but if you double tap on a linked book title from within
the search results there's an add to the wish list link. Once you've added
the title to the wish list you can back out of the search results and go to
the wish list. It's always been this way, though.

Nicki,

I connected the Hadley NLS player cartridge to my computer using a standard
USB extension cable. The female end of this cable connects to the cartridge
and the male end plugs into the USB port on the computer.

Glad you got your corrupted install resolved and the books transferred.

How did you connect the cartridge to your computer? Did you need a special
cable to do this? I thought it wasn't a standard USB, but I don't have one
to look at right now. This would be convenient because I might want to get
courses from Hadley, and the NLS players we have aren't working well right
now. We just haven't called to get them replaced or sent them back, so if
there is a way to play them on the BARD mobile app, that would be great.

Actually, yes, they were zipped. The problem ended up being a corrupted
install or something, as I got it to work beautifully after an uninstall and
reinstall of the app. But it was a good thought. I knew they had to be
zipped because even the original instructions for iTunes 11 mentioned this.

As Christopher said and using the instructions Russ posted, you can
successfully transfer BARD books on your computer to your iDevice for
playing with BARD Mobile using iTunes.

I don't know what the easiest steps are to do this with iTunes 12 since I'm
still using iTunes 11. I suspect that the failure experienced by the
original poster in this thread might have been due to the book not being in
a zipped archive. The general steps she outlined sounded correct since it
sounded as if she was on the Apps tab for her device and was on BARD mobile
in the file sharing section which you must be in order to access the add to
button. After that button is executed, you get a dialog where you can
navigate to the files you want to add to the app, BARD mobile in this case.
These must be zipped files as they were when originally downloaded from
BARD.

I know this works because I have one of the braille lessons from the hadley
School which came to me on an NLS cartridge for playing on the NLS digital
player. I wanted to use my iPhone for playing the lesson so I connected the
cartridge to my computer and located the lesson files on it and zipped them
into a single file. When I transferred this file to my iPhone using iTunes,
it plays beautifully in BARD mobile.

Hopefully others will have more success if they choose to transfer zipped
BARD books this way and hopefully apple will make file transfers again more
accessible with future iTunes versions.

Re: Trying to sync books to BARD Mobile using Itunes 12

2015-10-19 Thread Christopher Chaltain
You can use the BARD app to download books directly from the BARD web
site or you can use iTunes to copy books you've already downloaded to
your computer over to your iPhone.

There's no reason you shouldn't be able to add books to the BARD Mobile
app using your computer and iTunes, since that's a supported feature.
These two means of getting books onto your iPhone are not mutually
exclusive.

The whole point of the BARD Mobile app is to be able to read books on
your iPhone. Getting books on to your iPhone directly over the network
is just one feature the BARD Mobile app supports.

Hmm, I agree with Mary. I thought the BARD app was like its own
self-contained method of getting books on to the phone. But if you wanted
to use iTunes, how exactly would you do this? What would you be sinking?
BARD books aren't like iBooks or regular MP3 files, so what folder or media
would you need to put BARD materials in so they would be synched properly?

Re: Trying to sync books to BARD Mobile using Itunes 12

2015-10-19 Thread Russ Kiehne
The following info probably has been changed since it was posted to the
bardtalk list:

Loading books into the BARDmobile app

The BARDmobile app is able to play any DAISY/NISO 2005 formatted book. To load
the
books into the iOS device for playback use the following instructions.
1. If not in a ZIP archive format. You should compress the directory holding
the books
files into a ZIP file.
2. Connect the iOS device to your computer with a USB cable.
3. Open the iTunes application and select the iOS device button at the right of
the
main window.
4. select the "Apps" radio button on the main screen.
5. At the bottom of the Apps screen is a section titled "File Sharing" with a
column
list of apps. One of those will be the BARDmobile app select it.
6. Press the "Add…" button located in the bottom right of the screen. This will
give
you a dialog to select the ZIP file from step one. The book will then be added
to
the app. You may need to restart BARDmobile to see the new book.
NOTE:
At this time the BARDmobile app will only play DAISY/NISO 2005 books. Other
DAISY
formats such as DAISY 2.02 and ePub 3 will simply fail to load.

Re: Trying to sync books to BARD Mobile using Itunes 12

2015-10-19 Thread Alan Lemly
As Christopher said and using the instructions Russ posted, you can
successfully transfer BARD books on your computer to your iDevice for playing
with BARD Mobile using iTunes.

I don't know what the easiest steps are to do this with iTunes 12 since I'm
still using iTunes 11. I suspect that the failure experienced by the original
poster in this thread might have been due to the book not being in a zipped
archive. The general steps she outlined sounded correct since it sounded as if
she was on the Apps tab for her device and was on BARD mobile in the file
sharing section which you must be in order to access the add to button. After
that button is executed, you get a dialog where you can navigate to the files
you want to add to the app, BARD mobile in this case. These must be zipped
files as they were when originally downloaded from BARD.

When I transferred this file to my iPhone using iTunes, it
plays beautifully in BARD mobile.

Hopefully others will have more success if they choose to transfer zipped BARD
books this way and hopefully apple will make file transfers again more
accessible with future iTunes versions.

I’m thinking about getting the Leef ibridge lightning flash drive to transfer
books from BARD to my ios device. This way, I can pypass the use of itunes.
Talking with Leef tech support, they tell me this can be done. Here is that

Hi,

So, you select .zip file -> Open in -> Select one of those apps which support
.zip files, and file will be opened in the app.

Whomever did the updates to the manual did not check any sections other than

Hmm, I agree with Mary. I thought the BARD app was like its own
self-contained method of getting books on to the phone. But if you wanted
to use iTunes, how exactly would you do this? What would you be sinking?
BARD books aren't like iBooks or regular MP3 files, so what folder or media
would you need to put BARD materials in so they would be synched properly?

It's a standard USB cable. You just need one that will fit the housing
of the cartridge. You can get these through a few vendors, but I've also
just been able to use cables that I got with other products.

How did you connect the cartridge to your computer? Did you need a
special cable to do this? I thought it wasn’t a standard USB, but I
don’t have one to look at right now. This would be convenient because I
might want to get courses from Hadley, and the NLS players we have
aren’t working well right now. We just haven’t called to get them
replaced or sent them back, so if there is a way to play them on the
BARD mobile app, that would be great.

Actually, yes, they were zipped. The problem ended up being a corrupted
install or something, as I got it to work beautifully after an uninstall
and reinstall of the app. But it was a good thought. I knew they had to
be zipped because even the original instructions for iTunes 11 mentioned
this.

As Christopher said and using the instructions Russ posted, you can
successfully transfer BARD books on your computer to your iDevice for
playing with BARD Mobile using iTunes.

I don't know what the easiest steps are to do this with iTunes 12 since
I'm still using iTunes 11. I suspect that the failure experienced by the
original poster in this thread might have been due to the book not being
in a zipped archive. The general steps she outlined sounded correct
since it sounded as if she was on the Apps tab for her device and was on
BARD mobile in the file sharing section which you must be in order to
access the add to button. After that button is executed, you get a
dialog where you can navigate to the files you want to add to the app,
BARD mobile in this case. These must be zipped files as they were when
originally downloaded from BARD.

I know this works because I have one of the braille lessons from the
hadley School which came to me on an NLS cartridge for playing on the
NLS digital player. I wanted to use my iPhone for playing the lesson so
I connected the cartridge to my computer and located the lesson files on
it and zipped them into a single file. When I transferred this file to
my iPhone using iTunes, it plays beautifully in BARD mobile.

Hopefully others will have more success if they choose to transfer
zipped BARD books this way and hopefully apple will make file transfers
again more accessible with future iTunes versions.

You can use the BARD app to download books directly from the BARD web site or
you can use iTunes to copy books you've already downloaded to your computer
over to your iPhone.

There's no reason you shouldn't be able to add books to the BARD Mobile app
using your computer and iTunes, since that's a supported feature.
These two means of getting books onto your iPhone are not mutually exclusive.

The whole point of the BARD Mobile app is to be able to read books on your
iPhone. Getting books on to your iPhone directly over the network is just one
feature the BARD Mobile app supports.

Hi all, I don't use I-tunes, so I can't comment on it's use, but you can
use dropbox to put NLS books on to your phone. Just copy the .zip file
into dropbox, it doesn't need to be in a folder, and then go to it with
the phone. Double tap the file and choose Share, and then choose open
with. You will see BARD mobile as one of your choices. The only problem
I have with this method is you must still be on line when you play the
book for the first time, so that Bard can offenticate it.

Have a good one:
