Re: iPhone 3GS

2014-12-08 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
I think that perhaps you are confusing the iPhone and the iPod. All iPhone
starting with 3GS had voiceover regardless of the capacity of the gigabytes
available. However the iPods were a different story. I think the iPod
third-generation 8 GB did not have voiceover but the ones that were higher
capacity did. I don't remember the specifics but I know it had to do with the
iPod.

Re: iPhone 3GS

2014-12-07 Thread RobH.
Well, the 3GS was certainly the first with VoiceOver, and all versions of
the device afaik.
There's someone on the lists with an 8Gb iPhone 4; so it's not anissue of
insufficient memory.

Don't update a 3GS past 5.whatever, not that they could now; but I did iOs
6 on a 3GS and it ground to a halt. A pity, it had been quite good up until
then. Fond memories hah?

RE: IPhone 3GS and iMessages

2012-09-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello Hope,

They can send iMessages as long as they have updated their phone to iOS 5
and have enabled iMessages. I always find it amazing how many people who are
simply users and not very interested in technology itself are still
running older iPhones like the 3GS or 4 on the software that was on it when
they received the phone. Just tell your friend to check which version he/she
has under Settings, General, About and if they do have iOS 5, iOS 5.01 or
iOS 5.11 they have to check in Settings and Messages whether iMessage is
turned on, if it is not they have to do so and sign in with their Apple Id
and password.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi Corey.
We end up paying nearly the same price, it's just divided up over time
on our bills. That's why the carriors have contracts, part of your
bill is paying off what the device actually costs. And then there is
the availability of the technology too, that will bring the price down
some.

I concur with those saying there is no reason, other than a lack of
sluggishness in some cases, to upgrade to iOS 5. If all you want to do is
browse the web, read emails, and listen to msucic, it should be fine.
I've been reading in several places now that the next iPhone will be
released on September 21. Depending on your situation, it may be best to
wait another 2 months and get the iPhone 4, whihc will likely drop to the
price of the 3GS, if past experience is any indication.

 1. I think the touch screen is slightly less responsive, though I've only
 seen a 3gs running iOS 5.
2.Yes, you can upgrade to iOS 5, but the phone is a bit sluggish with it.
Especially if you plan to use any of the higher quality voices.
 3. The more space an app takes up, and the more resources it uses, the less
stable it will be. I've heard reports that Navigon, for example, doesn't
 run
so well. Neither does Blindsware. Perhaps someone with a 3gs, or who has
used one more extensively can expand on this.
4.I didn't try the email app on the 3gs, but it's accessible with my iPhone

Why not, we have here, two of them, they still work, have the details of
5.1.1, though Siri isn't a part of it of course. But it works normally.
I'm not a heavy user mind, no Navigon, though have enough other cheaper
stuff. I use it more as a pocket pc than media player, I got cheaper simpler
things for that.
Coms and text reading, it's a good enough start. Couple outdoor things,
nothing too fancy.

Re: Iphone 3gs-a few queries

2012-07-29 Thread Scott Davert
I concur with those saying there is no reason, other than a lack of
sluggishness in some cases, to upgrade to iOS 5. If all you want to do
is browse the web, read emails, and listen to msucic, it should be
fine.
I've been reading in several places now that the next iPhone will be
released on September 21. Depending on your situation, it may be best
to wait another 2 months and get the iPhone 4, whihc will likely drop
to the price of the 3GS, if past experience is any indication.

 1. I think the touch screen is slightly less responsive, though I've
 only seen a 3gs running iOS 5.
2.Yes, you can upgrade to iOS 5, but the phone is a bit sluggish with it.
Especially if you plan to use any of the higher quality voices.
 3. The more space an app takes up, and the more resources it uses, the
 less
stable it will be. I've heard reports that Navigon, for example,
doesn't run so well. Neither does Blindsware. Perhaps someone with a
3gs, or who has used one more extensively can expand on this.
4.I didn't try the email app on the 3gs, but it's accessible with my
 iPhone
4 on iOS 5, so should work fine on the 3gs.
 5. yes

WOW what would that translate to in American dollars? I admit I rarely stop
to think about device pricing in other parts of the world.

I would expect you will be able to get a 4s 16gb model for around say 99.99
with contract from the 3 big USA carriers once the next iPhone is released.

 Hi,
There's no reason not to upgrade to the latest IOS version on the 3GS.

I would suggest not updating on the 3gs.

The only thing I have to add to the very complete response below is
that the email app works like a charm on my 3gs. I have full

 interface, and it's a godsend.

 Thanks,

 1. I think the touch screen is slightly less responsive, though I've
 only seen a 3gs running iOS 5.
2.Yes, you can upgrade to iOS 5, but the phone is a bit sluggish with it.
Especially if you plan to use any of the higher quality voices.
 3. The more space an app takes up, and the more resources it uses,
 the
 less
stable it will be. I've heard reports that Navigon, for example,
doesn't run so well. Neither does Blindsware. Perhaps someone with a
3gs, or who has used one more extensively can expand on this.
4.I didn't try the email app on the 3gs, but it's accessible with my
 iPhone
4 on iOS 5, so should work fine on the 3gs.
 5. yes
