Re: ios 8.0

2014-07-02 Thread Alex Hall
It will work on the 4S. No word yet on how well (usually, new iOS releases have
some problem or other on older iPhones) but it is supported. I recommend you
wait a few days after the release to see how it works for others' phones before
upgrading.

Yes the 4s should work ok although it may lag in places and not all
features will be available as per usual. I remember running iOS 7 on the
4 I once had and it ran ok although was slow in places.

RE: ios 8.0

2014-07-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
iOS 7 initially ran a bit slow on the iPhone 4, but without looking this up
I believe the iPhone 4 has the A4 chip which is a single core chip and the
A5 chip in the 4S is a dual core chip. Also, one should add that iOS 7.1
when it was released runs a lot better on the iPhone 4 so I don't think one
should automatically assume that iOS 8 will run slow on the 4S. Yes, it will
be missing some features which require the newer hardware of the iPhone 5S
and 5C (and of course the various iPhone 6 models), but that is nothing new.
One should also not forget that it is pretty nice that Apple supports
devices which are 4 years old with their latest iOS version.

Re: ios 8.0

2014-07-02 Thread Alex Hall
Sorry, I was not very clear. I was talking about the initial upgrade; on older
devices, the first release of a new iOS number can be slow or cause other
problems. Yes, by the time the next big update comes out (the x.1 version)
things are generally fine. I just meant that, for 4S users, upgrading the day
of the iOS8 release is probably not a great idea. Things may be fine, but I'd
wait a bit to make sure before upgrading.
