RE: wonderful accessibility update to move fitness app
How much is this app? Thanks. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Woody Anna Dresner Sent: Thursday, August 14, 2014 9:22 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: wonderful accessibility update to move fitness app Hello, I've loved the Move app https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/move-daily-activity-to-stay/id555994760?mt=8 since I got it from AppsGoneFree a year and a half ago. It's a fitness app that prompts you to do specific exercises throughout the day at the interval you set. The exercises are chosen at random. For instance, at 9:20, you might be asked to do 25 crunches, at 10:20, you might be asked to walk up and down 4 flights of stairs, etc. The app was always reasonably accessible, but there were a few issues. I pointed these out to the developer, and he has fixed them in an update that came out this morning. This is a great app for anyone who wants to get in a little better shape and doesn't want to do a long workout at any one time. You can buy additional exercises to get more variety, and you can remove exercises you don't like so that the app won't propose them. And if it suggests one you don't want to do, you can ask for a new one. And with these accessibility improvements, it's particularly good. Thanks so much to the developer, Kevin Holesh, for making such a good and accessible app! Cheers, Anna -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Hi Eileen, When I listen to one of the videos and an ad starts, a few seconds later, VoiceOver says the ad is now skippable. Then there's a Skip Ad button that will skip the rest of the ad. Hi Anna, Thanks for the suggestion. I installed the "YouTube" app and I can now view the view the video. Hi, I had the same problem initially, so I downloaded the Youtube app. Now the videos play in that app. Youtube is a sufficiently accessible app to be able to skip the adds and play the videos. One advantage, is that if you click on the link from your iPhone, you'll go right into the App Store where you can download the app directly to your phone. I may click on the link on my PC to read up on the app, but I'll save the email and access it on my phone to download it to my phone. I never got into installing apps to my phone by using iTunes on my PC. Hi Suzanne, Each exercise has a Youtube link to a video that shows/tells how to do it. Some of these are easier to follow without seeing the videos than others. The developer is trying to get text descriptions from a personal trainer, and in the meantime, he's trying to find the clearest videos possible. Hi, I heard backfrom the developer. You only get the option to change alert sounds if you buy the Everything package. Unfortunately, I bought each package (Office, Beginner, Stretch, and Yoga) first, before I learned there was an Everything package that includes all 4 of these, plus some additional benefits (like option to change alerts sounds) and free updates of any future package additions. When I get my receipt from Apple for these package purchases, I'll see if they can take them as a return so I can buy the Everything package. The developer was responsive to my inquiries, but wasn't able to fix anything already done. He'll look into modifications for future versions, he says.and I believe him. Thanks. RE: wonderful accessibility update to move fitness app
When I double tap on Alert, I get the Buy Everything package tab. This has happened about 10 times. I've tried closing and reopening the app, and still the same. I've sent a note to Kevin. I bought all 4 exercise packs. When I tried to deselect from among the many exercises, I could only deselect about a quarter of them before double tapping no longer changed anything. Also, another note to Kevin. I like the app's potential, though. Thanks. Thanks. I got the reminder interval and start/stop times changed. I couldn't get the Alert Sound: Chime to open to find alternatives. Do you know if there are alternatives for the Chime alert? I got the app, too. It seems pretty cool. I bought some extra exercises. There are four options at 0.99 each, but then the 5th option is Everything for $2.99. I can't figure out how to change the interval of reminder from 45 minutes to 90 minutes, and changing the time of alerts from the default 9am to 6pm to my preference of 8am to 9pm. Hello Lelia, Some of the exercises have countdown timers, but others don't. The one you did doesn't because it told you to do a specific number of lunges. Re: wonderful accessibility update to move fitness app
Hello Eileen and all, If you don't want to do the exercise Move proposes, you can request a different exercise. In the update that came out earlier this summer, when you did this, the screen didn't update properly, so you couldn't find out what the new exercise was. This has been fixed. Also, if you use the countdown timer, it now speaks timer progress every 5 seconds until the last 5, and then every 1. It's so nice to hear how much time is left. You need the Youtube app to access the videos. The developer plans to add text instructions to a future update, but he's trying to get clear directions from a trainer, and that's taking a while. In the meantime, he is trying to include only videos that have clear verbal instructions and get rid of the ones that have no spoken content. I haven't checked out many videos yet, so I don't know whether he's done that yet. RE: wonderful accessibility update to move fitness app
Hello Anna, I stopped using the app because I couldn't access the video clips in previous versions. Can you elaborate on what the accessibility enhancements to the latest version that has made it easier for the visually impaired to use the app? Thanks. I have always liked it as well. Thank you for taking the initiative to contact the developer.
