RE: Reading .mobi files on the iPhone

2012-12-13 Thread Aman Singer
Hi, David and all.
Both Epub and mobi files come with and without copy protection. For
example, Smashwords.com sells unprotected epub and mobi files, Kobo sells
copy-protected epub, and Amazon sells protected mobi generally, some
publishers choose to sell without protection. The point is that there are
two stages to any conversion, to remove the copy protection, if that is
necessary, and to convert the file type. What John is speaking of, renaming
the file from .mobi to .epub can only apply to the second stage. All the
testing I speak of below was done on files without copy protection. Even
here, though, with the readers I tried, renaming did not work, which is why
I asked John to let us know of the readers he was using.
I hope that's of use.

Hello, Jon.
Thanks for the information. I am able to open the renamed .mobi file
in Stanza without an error on the iPhone, but is Stanza usable on the
iPhone? I can read the list of books, but whenever I open a book, voiceover
seems to indicate that there is nothing on the screen except a space
character. That is, whether the file is a standard epub or a renamed mobi,
the result seems to be the same, but that result is bad. If you'd let me
know how Stanza is used, I'd appreciate it. A search of Applevis doesn't
produce anything about Stanza for iOS, just Stanza for OSX.

to work on any of the three readers I have here. With Ibooks, Blio,
and Nook, the reader simply refuses to load the renamed file. It's as
if the file isn't there. There is no error, but the file, when I
attempt to load it, simply disappears and is not visible in the list
of books in either application. When using the file with Epub readers
on the PC, particularly Kurzweil 1000 and Digital Editions, the file
is not opened and I do get an error saying that the file is not in the
 correct format.
If you would let us know which reader can do this, particularly if
it's for mobile, it would be appreciated.

 Hello.
I know of no utility that will let you accessibly read mobi files on
iOs. It is, however, easily possible to convert mobi files to epub
which can, of course, be read in iBooks. The quickest and most
private method of conversion which I've seen is through caliber. Try
http://calibre-ebook.com/ and the manual for accessible conversions
 through Calibre is at

I hope that's of use.

Reading .mobi files on the iPhone

2012-11-10 Thread Wil James
I am loving reading .epub files with iBooks. I've recently accumulated a bunch
of .mobi files, but cannot find an app that will let me view them.

Does anyone know of some kind of conversion utility that will make them
viewable in iBooks?
