Re: Response from Apple concerning Flecksy
I don't see what all the fuss is about. It's a free app and anybody blind or sighted can download it. Yes it's a good app but so is tap tap see so why not add that too to the accessibility section. If you want the app, download it. If you don't, then move on. - Original Message - From: Ron Pelletier To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Wednesday, February 20, 2013 3:07 PM Subject: RE: Response from Apple concerning Flecksy Hi Sieghard, You know the old story. Hi Andy, Of course, it is boiler plate, I didn't expect anything else. I certainly didn't expect them to send me a 2-page personal letter making a whole bunch of promises on things they don't have any control over. All they can do at accessibility is to pass my request to the people who make decisions and, hopefully, if there are a lot of requests like mine, the people who really make the decisions just might listen but, they certainly won't if nobody says anything. I am so happy to hear that quite a few of the people on this list have made their voice heard and if all of the 1400 members of this list did, it just could make the difference. RE: Response from Apple concerning Flecksy
Hello, This is also the response I received and a very standard response; I have received many of them about different requests I emailed about and they are all worded in a similar way. I am not sure if it's much better than if they said "Sorry, but we don't this feature and currently have no plans to do so", at least I wouldn't hold my breath about it. I think if anything this is a bigger issue and deals with how much Apple controls the amount of access developers have in general to system wide integration. The problem is that if Apple allowed, for example, Fleksy to integrate their keyboard as a system option then other developers could and would ask for the same, Braille and Touch would want to make their keyboard available, developers would want the ability to integrate SIRI into their apps and so on. Maybe this will happen over time, but I doubt Apple would allow it if they didn't have a way to put very strict limits into place as to how far a developer can go.
