I too have experience this siri text message bug and it looks as though ios 6 has a lot more "accessibility" related bugs than previous versions, to be fair though ios 6 does also have some enhancments. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group. Hi, You can tell siri to read your message and she will do so. If you have to correct something you can say change at her prompt. For more precise editing you are better off turning VoiceOver on. Hello. Please remember that if you send a message to the list and do not get any responses it means that either nobody has an answer for you, or people have not finished catching up to all the messages on the list. I am using an iPhone 5 and it works when I use the button on the headphones. Hmmm, not sure if it is a combination software / hardware issue. This is very strange. I always get this problem with screen locking using the remote button. What phone are you using? I actually used the headphone button and found the problem occurred. So, not sure it is button-specific. However, I am going to do some additional testing per a note from Apple. I think I have the solution to the problem. When using the headphones, use the middle button on the headphones to invoke Siri. When using Siri with the headphone button, the screen does not lock on me. If I use the home button on the phone when using the headphones, the screen will lock. Hope this helps. One thing you can do if you don't get a response is to double tap with one finger. This forces the normal beep and may speed up SIRI's response. Not always, but it's worth a try. I asked a few estions yesterday and did not get any answers. First, if you turn voice off, use Seri, how do you know that Seri got it right? How do you get it to send messages etc if you don't get any feedback from Seri when Voice over is off that he/she has got the recognition right? I can't use Seri as she doesn't understand me whatsoever and says things that I never said hence Seri is useless to me. Kawal. I never use auto lock either, when I first got the phone it would lock before I could figure out how to do anything and I shut it off and have never tried to use it again. And to further the point it would be almost impossible to have Siri go into listening mode when VO is on because Siri would pickup VO and interpret what is being said. Re: Siri Generated Text Messages Bug Discovered in iOS 6.0
Hi again, I'm about to make my reports Apple but I want to do it when I have access to a keyboard. Until then I want to restate that it is not an installation problem since it up Pierres on both my iPhone five and my husband's iPhone five that we got from the store and I installed mine as a new device. However I want to clarify an issue with you guys. I noticed a clear difference anytime Siri needs to ask back for more information. When voiceover is off it automatically goes to listen mode after asking me a question. When voiceover is on, regardless whether I have headphones or just the phone itself, I need to press listen to answer series questions. Do any of you experience this difference in behavior? Siri does not have problems sending text. I have sent several text messages with the screen locked and unlocked. THe only problem appears to be while using headphones. RE: Siri Generated Text Messages Bug Discovered in iOS 6.0
Hi Mark, Isn't it clear that if you had "serious problems installing iOS 6" that SIRI would be affected? *smile* But joking aside, I had this strange problem that the playback controls weren't showing up consistently in the lock screen after a double press of the home button. Since I use this feature frequently I decided to do a factory restore and that fixed this issue even thoug I upgraded via iTunes to begin with. It's a pain in the neck to do a factory reset, you get 95% of your stuff back pretty quick, but 5% you work on for the next week, small things like setting up custom ring and system tones, adding back Podcasts, Favourite numbers, repurchasing in-app purchases like in List Recorder, having to re-enter Skype user name and password, WiFi passwords etc. Just a bunch of small stuff you never think about once everything is set up. Re: Siri Generated Text Messages Bug Discovered in iOS 6.0
Siri just plain is having problems with texts. Have not tried texting in a locked screen, but if you are in Siri she will not send even on home screen. You have to get out of Siri. Then she will send the text! Reggie and Brooks On Sep 27, 2012, at 3:10 PM, "M. Taylor" wrote: Hello Everyone, To those of you who may not know, When using Siri to send a text message, the screen locks before completing the process. It does not matter how long the auto-lock is set. NOTE 1: If the message is short enough, only one word, for instance, Siri may successfully send the text message. It may also work the first time you attempt to send a message after powering on the device. However, subsequent attempts with messages containing more than 5 words or so, will time out before the message can be sent. To create the bug, do the following: NOTE 2: I use the center button on the included iPHone wired headset to interact with Siri. 1. Launch Siri and say something like, "Send a message to Mark Taylor." Siri will reply with something like, "You said, send a message to Mark Taylor. OK. I can send a message to Mark Taylor for you. What would you like it to say?" At this point, a text message dialog box is displayed and Siri will say something like, "To, Mark Taylor." 2. Initiate the Siri command and say something like, "Hi Mark. How is your day? I hope you are well." Siri will respond with something like, "You said, Hi Mark. How is your day? I hope you are well. I updated your message. Ready to send it? Reply with cancel or send." NOTE 3: For me more often than not, the screen locks at this point, before I can send the message. I have also experienced the scenario when, after initiating Siri and saying, "Send," Siri will respond with something like, "You said Send. Okay, I will send it for you," only to lock the screen, losing the message before it can be sent. Mark, Thanks. I forwarded your message to Apple Accessibility and added my comments concerning the headphones and the testing I conducted. I am sure they will be able to reproduce as well. Scott, You're a genius You are absolutely correct It never occurred to me to try sending without my headset. When I removed the headset and used the speaker phone, I got the same results as everyone else. So, the bug clearly exists with the headphones plugged in. I'm hoping that all those who said they could not produce the bug will attempt to do so with their headphones plugged in and then, perhaps, they will report to Apple. Thank you, Scott. RE: Siri Generated Text Messages Bug Discovered in iOS 6.0
Hello John, Thanks for reporting in. I can reproduce this issue time and time again. I am so glad that virtually no one, besides iOana and I, is experiencing this. Frankly, given how well Siri creates and sends messages with VoiceOver turned off, I'll probably use that method until all works well. All I can add is that I had some serious problems installing iOS 6.0 on my 4 S; perhaps some unknown gremlin found his way into my device. When I have enough energy and time, I will probably reinstall iOS 6.0 via iTunes instead of over-the-air and see what happens. I did this from the lock screen, but the problem only occurred while using headphones. Otherwise Siri behaved exactly as expected. In fact I tried this test because it was rather curious. Re: Siri Generated Text Messages Bug Discovered in iOS 6.0
I have found this problem only exists when using headphones. I have conducted tests with and without headphones and I am using a pair of Bose headphones. I suspect the problem exists only with headphones unless someone has found something different. On Sep 27, 2012, at 4:58 PM, John Panarese wrote: > I am not seeing this. I am not seeing this. I just tried it twice without the screen locking. I am having a strange issue in which I sometimes tell SIRI to send a text and the screen to cancel, send or reply is shown again. I then have to tell her to send it a second time before it will go. Hi Mark, I just sent an iMessage to my wife using Siri on an iPhone 4S running iOS 6 and it worked just fine. It didn't send until I tapped the home button to get out of Siri, but nothing locked up or anything. That is very odd that you are experiencing that symptom. I have no clue what could cause that. No, it only happens in the given scenario I described, that is to say initiating siri from either a locked screen or the launch pad. It sounds like he has the auto lock feature turned on. For those not having this problem, do you have auto lock enabled? I never use auto lock, so this isn't an issue for me. Siri Generated Text Messages Bug Discovered in iOS 6.0
Hello Everyone, To those of you who may not know, When using Siri to send a text message, the screen locks before completing the process. I strongly encourage those of you who have or can reproduce this bug to either send a message to Apple at accessibil...@apple.com or call their accessibility hotline at: 877-204-3930. Please feel free to use any part of this post. Mark -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group.
