I get this as well at times, but for the nmost part there does seem to be some sort of learning/memory going on if I call somebody and have to specify which phone, often the next time it will default to that. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Rick Alfaro Sent: Friday, October 27, 2023 6:26 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Siri continues to be the dumbest of all dumb assistance. RE: Siri continues to be the dumbest of all dumb assistance.
It doesn't matter if it has been reported, if you have this issue you should report it because if only 1 person reports it Apple will probably pay little attention to it. If 100 people report it maybe it gets higher priority. This does happen for me at times or at least it used to, now not so much any more, but usually if you wait it will restart after it beeps, at least for me it usually does. Actually in the beginning it would sometiems just say "You said" and then it would beep, but then it would go again if I didn't touch the screen and the second time around it would usually read the entire message and then ask if I wanted to send it. As a final thought, any time I have to send a slightly longer message or one which I know will contain words or names Siri is likely to get wrong and where I have to edit them, I usually open Messages or Mail or whatever app and use dictation because I can then dictate in smaller portions of text and I find it is a lot quicker to edit something. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of CHELA Robles Sent: Thursday, October 26, 2023 1:52 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Siri continues to be the dumbest of all dumb assistance. I've had Alexa start telling me about something that we are talking about, when she hasn't even spoken to. Her name was not referenced in anyway. I've also had the Googgle Pod start copying me or start singing a song on the spoken subject. In which case that is worse than the dumbest of Seri. Actually, for the most part, I don't have issues with Siri. I think the fact that the time it takes to get Siri's attention has increased a little. If you use the side button or home button to get Siri, you have to keep it held in/down for a bit longer than before. If you are using Siri or Hey Siri under 17, I've started just saying Siri and waiting for Siri to respond before making my request. That way I know it is listening. RE: Siri continues to be the dumbest of all dumb assistance.
Hi Mary. I have to say that I totally agree with you. Siri has gotten worse instead of better IMHO. Lately, one example is a simple request to call my wife who of course is in my contacts. I even specify mobile as part of my request and I still get which entry I want even though I specified mobile which is definitely one of the choices. So annoying. I'm seeing this in lots of other examples where I'm asked to make a choice when it should not be necessary at all. Re: Siri continues to be the dumbest of all dumb assistance.
I’m glad the Iphone I have still uses a physical sim card so I can easily switch between my Iphone SE and my Pixel 7, I do think Apple removed the physical sim tray too soon, currently there is no easy way to transfer your ESIM between an Iphone and Android without contacting the carrier. For most things both platforms are equal and the accessibility of Android has definitely come full circle. It’s good that we have the same choice as sighted people and that both platforms are accessible out of the box. > On Oct 26, 2023, at 1:27 AM, Sieghard Weitzel wrote: > > I agree entirely about how ridiculously limited Siri can be, but if you are > using an iPhone you take the bad with the good and that is no didfferent if > you have an Android phone. Re: Siri continues to be the dumbest of all dumb assistance.
Out of the three major assistants, siri, google assistant and Alexa, siri is by far the most behind, both on a phone and on smart speakers. I still have my Iphone SE third edition and might go back to it but for the last month I’ve been using my Google Pixel 7 and the Google Assistant blows siri away, the assistance voice typing feature on the Pixel is also amazing. > On Oct 25, 2023, at 9:56 PM, Mary Otten wrote: > > I just upgraded to iOS 17.1. RE: Siri continues to be the dumbest of all dumb assistance.
I am cracking up, Sieghard, about your devices and far away ones responding. Today, I Facetime called my daughter-in-law to show her my haircut. When I got off, I told my son, as we drove down the highway that Jim's daughter said I could call her Facetime, all I had to do was say, Siri, call Beth. The next thing I knew we could hear my phone ringing in my purse. My son, said it did. I hung it up, but Jim's daughter called. I told her what happened, and we got a laugh out of it. At least, we know that works, only I didn't say Call Beth Facetime, but I did say call Beth, and it did. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Thursday, October 26, 2023 1:44 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Siri continues to be the dumbest of all dumb assistance. I hate it when siri doesn't finish confirmation of messages I send to people, it beeps prior and cuts itself off midsentence so I feel I have to manually send it either using dictation or braille screen input. RE: Siri continues to be the dumbest of all dumb assistance.
Hi Mary, Since I doubt anybody at Apple who has anything at all to say is monitoring this list, complaining here does exactly 0 good whereas providing feedback in the long run may actually have an effect. Having said this, I use Siri to open apps as well and for some reason with my iPhone 13 Pro which also has iOS 17.1 opening apps is not an issue. I just ttried 5 different apps one after another and each app opened quickly and without fail. The ones I tried were the following along with what I said: Watch app - open watch Mail - open Mail Sonos - open Sonos Audible - open Audible Facebook - open Facebook RBC Royal Bank - open RBC Smart HQ - open Smart HQ (for my GE induction range) AS Home - open American Standard, this one can seem to not work because Voiceover calls the app "AS Home" but if you say "open AS Home" it either opens the Apple Home app or it wil say that it doesn't seem you have an app called "AS Home". But that is not Siri's fault if the Voiceover label reads one thing, but internally it's called something else. By the way, are you using just your iPhone or do you have a headset connected when you make the request? Also, do you make sure to give it that extra second or so Siri seems to need these days to properly listen? I find the odd time something didn't work is when I spoke too quickly and Siri only caught part of what I said. For example, one situation where this easily happens is when I ask, for example, "Call John Smith". At times Siri will say something like "What would you like to know about John Smith" and that is entirely because all Siri heard was "John Smith" and the "Call" was spoken before Siri listened. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Mary Otten Sent: Thursday, October 26, 2023 6:48 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Siri continues to be the dumbest of all dumb assistance. I agree entirely about how ridiculously limited Siri can be, but if you are using an iPhone you take the bad with the good and that is no didfferent if you have an Android phone. Google Assistant well not so much. But when I can’t get Siri to open an app on my phone without a big fat hassle, that just takes the cake. Open Watch. Which watch app do you want Hulu or YouTube or Watch? Well G. I said watch app. I didn’t say anything about Hulu or YouTube. This crap is just ridiculous. Any assistant on a phone should be smart enough to know when you’re asking it to open an app that you have on your phone. Samsung phones have no problem with this. It’s just ridiculous. Re: Siri continues to be the dumbest of all dumb assistance.
Hi Group, I guess it depends on what you are using these automated helpers for. I find Siri better than Alexa or Curtana for general knowledge. As far as opening apps, I do that myself. Early on when I first began using the iPhone, I learned to edit my home screen, group various apps by category into folders and so on. Even when using the contacts listing in e-mails, text or phone calls, I add all regularly used addresses to the contacts list and the only time I ever use Siri to make calls/texts is if the addressee is not in my contacts list. Siri never misses when I ask her call (998) 555-. I almost never ask Siri to be involved at all in apps. On 10/25/2023 11:18 PM, M. Taylor wrote: Mary, You've got me smiling. Thank you. Frankly, Mark, it seems to me that they’ve all gotten stupider recently, so-called AI not withstanding. I mean really. Alexa is worthless for sports. You get all kinds of crap from that.
