Hi, Yep, it's correct. Skype doesn't need phone signal, so you
should be good.

Subject: Skype and IPhone

I have never used Skype but just signed up for it. My questions
is this: I have an IPhone 6 which is currently active on my
Verizon account. I am considering dropping the service on this
phone since it is not my primary number. I assume that Skype
will still work on the phone even though it is not active on the
Verizon service as long as I am connected to Wi-Fi. Is this a
correct assumption?.

Re: Skype and IPhone

2017-04-23 Thread Victor Gouveia
I don’t believe a phone number has anything to do with the Skype service.

You can purchase a plan and use their service exclusively for about twenty
bucks a year and get US and Canadian Unlimited calls to land and cell phones,
and still a number is not necessary.

Even if you use their SMS service, it’s done through your Skype account, not
your cell phone number.

2017-04-23 Thread Richard Turner

I use Skype on an iPod Touch and it works fine.
The only time you need a number, is if you want to receive calls through a
number, rather than your email address or Skype name.
If you buy Skype credits, you can even call land line phones using your Skype
account.

I haven't heard this, but would like to know the source so that I can check
the validity rather than going on a rumor.

There have been periodic updates, which would cause me to believe that this

RE: Using skype on iPhone with bluetooth earpiece.

2014-11-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Ed,

Glad you more or less figured it out. I rarely use my bluetooth earpiece for
phone calls let alone for Skype. Usually when I use Skype I do so because I
like the high quality and bluetooth earpieces or headsets don't exactly help
the quality. The call may sound OK on my end, but I have never yet tried a
bluetooth earpiece or headset where the person on the other end didn't notice
that I was using a bluetooth device.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hello again Sieghard.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
Here is an update, thanks for clarifying that you can not answer a skype call
using the bluetooth headset directly and that you have to answer it on the
phone itself, I was able to answer a couple of calls today successfully,
however; when I answer the call from the phone with bluetooth enabled and speak
on the headset it exhibits a couple of small annoyances however I can live with
them if I must.
As you know the jabra xtreme has voice porompts built-in.
When I answer a skype call the headset announces call ended about 5 seconds
into the call, I have to wait until the headset does this for the person at the
other end of the call to hear me, however; I can live with that if I must.
I guess what was throwing me off is that the headset was announcing call ended
even though if I wait until the announcement is over the call actually comes
through the headset successfully.
So, we can happily say another issue solved, or at least mostly.
If you do find anything else, do let me know, if you need to find me on skype I
am edbarnes7
Thanks again and enjoy the remainder of the week-end.
Ed

Hi Ed,

OK, so if I understand correctly it's the bluetooth headset that seems to
exhibit some inconsistent behavior.
Well, it's after 1:30 AM and I only just now had a chance to brose through
Friday's messages. I'll have some time tomorrow or Sunday and I also have a
Jabra headset although it's the Supreme and not the Extreme. Anyhow, I'll play

Good evening Sieghard.

As always thank you for your reply.

I was already aware that it is not possible to answer an incoming skype call
directly from the bt headset itself.

When I receive a skype call, unlock the phone and then double tap the answer
button, the call is answered, however; the audio either comes through the phone
rather than the headset or the phone seems like it is freezing up, the bt
headset announces call ended, however; if I power off the bt headset the call
usually is not ended, the person is there and if I put the phone to my ear, we
can speak.
If I then power on the bt headset once we are connected the call does end.
Is there any settings in the skype program itself I have to enable or change to
allow me to use skype in conjunction with my headset or anything like that?
Thanks in advance for any ideas, Ed.

Hi Ed,

Are you asking about answering an incoming Skype call or an incoming phone call
while the Skype call is in progress?
If it is the latter, then the Skype call getting cut off is normal. Any Voip
call except Facetime will be cut off by an incoming phone call.
If you are talking about answering an incoming Skype call then this can only be
done by double tapping on the Answer button in Skype.
If Your phone is locked you can swipe up on the notification on the lock screen
to Answer and while this doesn't actually answer the call, as soon as you
unlock your phone it will take you straight into the Skype app where you can
find the answer button. If you use a passcode you will have to enter it to

answer the call in time. On my 5S with touch Id it works pretty well since all
I have to do is put my thumb on the home button for a second or so.

different scenario. You can, by the way, now use a 2-finger double tap to hang
up a Skype call from within the app.

Good evening all.Good evening all.
To start this message let me tell you that I am using an iPhone 4S with the
latest iOS 8.1 and the most up-too-date Skype from the App store here in Canada.
I have skype installed and it works great for the most part, I can send and
receive both text and voice chat no problems on my phone, and hen my bt
earpiece is paired with the phone voiceover comes through it and reads all the
messages and skype's options, however; when the bt is paired with the phone I
can't figure out how to answer a call, when I answer the bluetooth by pushing
on te same green buttin whidch answers a telephone call the skype call is cut
off, do any of you smart people on this list have any ideas or suggestions.
The earpiece is a Jabbre Xtreme II and it does support a2DP as I can stream
music or audio and listen to music or voiceOver.
Thanks for any ideas or suggestions in advance - Ed.

New Skype on iPhone 6

2014-10-20 Thread Neal Ewers
Hi, I got a call from someone today who is using the newest version of skype
on her iPhone 6. She was using the internal microphone of the iPhone, but I
could hardly hear her. She changed from speaker phone on and off and it made
no difference. If she talked right into the phone, it sounded OK, so it
would appear that it works on hand set when the speaker phone is off, but
speaker phone with the phone hanging around her neck could hardly be heard.

Is there any kind of adjustment for volume in settings? I don't have the new
OS, so I don't know the answer to that. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi Jenny,

Where does it say you can remove a contact without blocking the contact?
When you double tap on a contact, then double tap on More and on Block
you can block a contact or you can block and remove a contact, but not only
remove it.

Thanks Sieghard, it seemed a bit beyond belief that they would have left it

I had turned off Skype in Privacy/Contacts yesterday in order to see if
turning it off and on would make a difference so now it told me that I had to
go and turn this on, after I did all my iPhone Contacts were there.

I guess to me it would make sense to also have iPhone Contacts in that list

easy way to get access to the iPhone Contacts.

So easy, was: Skype and iPhone Contacts

2014-06-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Jonathan, Donna and others,

Well, it occurred to me to maybe check on the DialPad screen since one would
typically use the iPhone Contact list to call landlines or mobile numbers
and the integration is right there.

Double tap on DialPad and, there is a Cancel button at the top left, the
phone number field in the middle and at the top right is the Addressbook
button.

I had turned off Skype in Privacy/Contacts yesterday in order to see if
turning it off and on would make a difference so now it told me that I had
to go and turn this on, after I did all my iPhone Contacts were there.

I guess to me it would make sense to also have iPhone Contacts in that
list of what one wants to display under People, but for now this definitely
is an easy way to get access to the iPhone Contacts.

Sieghard

Re: Skype and iPhone Contacts

2014-06-14 Thread Joseph FreeTech
Hi all,

If I'm understanding correctly, some can't access their Contacts within the
new Skype5 app? I am perfectly able to access all my contacts by simply
adding them to Skype via toggle within Settings Privacy Contacts. I then
turned off this Contacts feature within Skype5, and Skype once again
informed me that I needed to turn on related setting within Privacy
settings.

In other words, one can add Contacts then use in-app search utility to
search for a specific iOS Contact within Skype5 and the phone number will be
automatically placed on dial pad screen.

If one chooses, one can then go into Settings Privacy and disable Skype's
ability to see one's Contacts--nothing appears to be imported into Skype
because I can then disable Skype's ability to see my iOS Contacts.

I upgraded the app and did not have to uninstall then reinstall on my iPod
Touch 5th gen.

Joseph

RE: Skype and iPhone Contacts

2014-06-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Joseph,

You posted responses to both the Contact and the Recent Chat thread. I
assume the solution you speak about which took you 5 minutes to figure out
relates o Contacts and not to deleting items from the Recents list, a
feature which really is missing.

Could you explain what you mean by in-app search utility? Do you refer to
using the Addressbook button at the top right of the DialPad?

I think we were all a bit confused by the fact that when you tap on the
All button in the People view there are only 2 options, All and
Online. In the previous Skype version one would use the Lists button and
then there were options for All, Skype Contacts, Online Contacts,
Saved Phone Numbers and also iPhone Contacts. I think this was maybe a
bit more intuitive and I don't quite understand why they didn't at least put
iPhone Contacts as a third option with All and Online. Then it would
have been possible to access the contact list either from inside the People
view as well as from the DialPad.

Also, if I use the search field in the People view and search for a contact
I only get results from my Skype contacts and not from my iPhone Contacts
even though I have allowed Skype access to my contact list.

Regards,
Sieghard
