Re: Streaming Music Services!
The person may wonder why it is not available to them, and it isn't obvious to a beginner (of which there are several). Nobody said iTunes Radio oir any of the other georestricted music streaming services are worthless. I understand from the media that there are plans to extend iTunes Radio to some other countries in September. - Original Message - From: "Alan Paganelli" To: Sent: Thursday, July 03, 2014 8:05 PM Subject: Re: Streaming Music Services! Re: Streaming Music Services!
I've been using one called AccuRadio that I found when browsing through results on AppleVis. It is very accessible, though the initial account creation process could be a little easier. For instance, VoiceOver said edit box but then when I touched near the bottom of the screen VoiceOver said "picker item." I was able to sign up for an account with little trouble after that. They have a wide variety of genres or you can choose what others are listening to. You cannot search by artist like on Pandora. AccuRadio does let you ban specific songs or artists though rather than Pandora where you can only like/dislike things. AccuRadio is free and gives you unlimited skips for each station. I am not sure if it is restricted to the United States or not. Some genres have lots of subcategories and others do not. For the most part thoughI have really liked and enjoyed what I have played there. Songza is another great one, you can search via decade, genre, mood, activity, etc. Live365 is one I've always enjoyed, though it is not free. I also recommend Pandora. I have used the free & paid version. Rhapsody, Was Re: Streaming Music Services!
Actually, Tim, if you don't mind, I really think your questions would be relevant. Rhapsody is kind of tricky. Basically, to get to the search field and the other navigation menu items, you have to do a three-finger horizontal swipe to the previous page. In most cases, this means swipe to the right with three fingers. The commmand doesn't always register, but keep trying till you hear "page one of one". That prompt doesn't make sense, I know, but it must be some aspect of a visual presentation with separate panels or something of the like. Another thing about Rhapsody is that there are buttons that are really menus. When you go to an artist page, there's a button that says "top tracks" below the artist's name. If you press this, you get a menu of choices for what will be shown: top tracks, albums, and I think one other choice that I can't recall at the moment. Anyhow, I like the service enough that I'm willing to deal with the idiosyncrasies of the ap. Just let me know if you have more questions. Hi, I use both Pandora and Rhapsody. They do slightly different things. Pandora creates "radio stations" based on the artists you choose. ITunes radio is similar. Rhapsody allows you to play whole albums or songs at will. Rhapsody is a little tricky, but quite accessible once you get used to it. Rhapsody always says it's not online, but it is. Hi Jonathan, I did not realize you could play a single artist on the iPhone. My iPhone crashes with the Spotify app. I guess it must be for iOS seven, but then, why did it let me download it? Works great on the iPad, and I am using the 30 day free trial for the full program. I believe the paid version also gives you a higher bit rate. It sounds very good on the highest quality setting, better than Pandora I think. Mary Sent from my iPhone On Dec 17, 2013, at 12:46 PM, Jonathan Mosen wrote: > Agreed Mary. Hi Suzanne, I don't know how to make a playlist that features just one artist. I know it can be done, or at least they say it can be. I have only done the radio station thing myself. And it works well. I have found an labeled buttons in the app, and it may be that some of those have to do with playlists. I haven't messed with it. Agreed Mary. Now that the free Spotify is out for iOS, there's nothing that comes close. It's true that on the iPad you can nominate a specific song to be played which is amazing. I had the iPad going through the Apple TV on Airplay the other night, typing in the names of songs I hadn't heard for years and having them play instantly in full. Amazing stuff for a free service. But even on the iPhone, you can nominate a specific artist, and music from that artist and that artist alone is put on shuffle. Swipe right with three fingers to move to the first horizontal page. There you'll find options such as home, my music, radio, settings, etc. To play something, just double-tap on its title. For me, it plays fine. HtH, Teresa -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group. Post a new message to VIPhone by emailing viphone@googlegroups.com. I used to absolutely love Slacker Radio. However, unfortunately, it is no longer Accessible. To make things worse, they refuse to answer any of my attempts to communicate with them. I have never heard of accuradio and I will go take a look at that. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group. One other small difference I discovered between iTunes Radio and Pandora, is that when you start Pandora it will automatically start playing the last stream you were listening to. With iTunes Radio, you need to double tap on the channel you want to start listening to. Just a small thing, but I like this feature in Pandora. Some people have said that iTunes Radio does not shuffle songs appropriately, like hearing a pop song when listening to classical music. I haven't had these problems though. There are a few times when the same song that I just said I didn't like, then comes up next in the shuffle, but again this has not happened very often to me. I like that when you go into the settings for a particular station, you can opt to share that station with your social networks. I also like how you can adjust what you hear on each station, such as between hits, variety, and discoverable. I only use one streaming app. It's called accuradio. I love it. Pandora is great on IoS. You can use it for free with commercials, or pay $3.99 a month with no commercials. Rhapsody is pretty good, but it’s very limited for free access and only has samples. I have a subscription to it, and they have lots of music in a very broad range. hth, Teresa Slow down; you'll get there faster. Streaming Music Services
Can anyone compare the various services available the major ones, anyway, in terms of accessibility first and then perhaps any pros or cons of each. I guess for purposes of this list, I am mostly asking about accessibility. One big question would be is there any difference in level of access for one service's free version compared to the paid; maybe they use different apps or introduce elements that effect access. I am just considering trying out something and then subscribing. So, I am completely ignorant, other than familiarity by mention. Thanks for any pointers to information!
