RE: [EXTERNAL] Re: When I Change My Apple ID

2020-10-22 Thread Alan Lemly
Keith,

I'm not a fan of using Safari and other browsers on my iPhone. I much prefer to
use apps designed for the particular function I'm using and very much prefer
the Apple Store and Apple Support apps when doing Apple things.

hi Allen and others,
Allen, what additional benefit do you get from the Apple support app, as
opposed to just using a search in Safari, specifying Apple support as one of
the keywords?
Thanks, Keith

2020-10-18 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Arnold,

So long as you change your apple id at the website:
Applied.apple.com
So that you have changed them in the apple system then all you have done /
purchased on the old address will be valid on the new address,

I've don’t' this myself a couple of times and it works fine.

Re: When I Change My Apple ID

2020-10-18 Thread Arnold Schmidt
I agree about having a gmail or outlook email address now. That way, one does
not have to change it if their ISP changes. i have had my mindspring address
since November, 1996, when the company was mindspring, then bought by
earthlink. I used my mindspring address to establish my apple ID when I first
put ITunes onto my computer in 2010. But for the past little while, earthlink
has been leting more and more junk into my email, and they either can't or
won't do anything about it. Now, Spectrum is ending their contract with
earthlink in my area, so I will cancel my earthlink account as of November 1.
I am a little sentimental about it, but in other ways, I won't be sorry to let
it go.

RE: When I Change My Apple ID

2020-10-18 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi Arnold,

I'm pasting the text of a support article I copied from the Apple Support
website after my signature discussing changing your Apple ID. You might also
get the Apple Support app which I used to find this article. It sounds as if
you won't lose anything by changing your Apple ID but I'd recommend you peruse
the article and its links. The article came from this website:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202667

Good luck.

Alan Lemly

Change your Apple ID

If you no longer use the email address that's associated with your Apple ID,
you can change it. You won’t lose access to your contacts, purchases, or other
account information.

How to change your Apple ID to a different email address

Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in.

In the Account section, choose Edit.

Choose Change Apple ID.

The website appleid.apple.com showing the Change Apple ID button.

Enter the email address that you want to use.

Choose Continue.

If you changed your Apple ID to a third-party email address, check your
email for a verification code, then enter the code. Learn what to do if you
didn't get the email.

If you use services like iCloud or Messages to share with friends and
colleagues, sign in to those services with your updated Apple ID.

If you can't change your Apple ID

If you try to change your Apple ID to an @icloud.com email address that was
created within the last 30 days, you will be asked to try again later.

If you see a message that the email address you want to use isn't available or
is already in use, check that you or a family member aren't already using that
email address with a different Apple ID. If a family member is using that email
address, remove it from their account then try to use it.

In some countries or regions, you can use your phone number as your Apple ID.
But if your Apple ID is an email address, you can't change it to a phone number.

If your Apple ID is a phone number

You can change your Apple ID to a different mobile phone number.

Learn more

To switch to a different Apple ID account—not change the email address that
you use as your Apple ID—you can sign out, then sign in with a different Apple
ID.

Learn more about how to use your Apple ID and keep your account information
up-to-date.
