Re: Deleting Books from the Audible App: An Alternate Method

2014-10-17 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Sieghardd,
You know, I thought somewhere I had seen a listing of how many books were in my
library, but I can't remember where. It might have been on the main site. As
for the listening statistics, I have to confess, I don't really pay much
attention to that. Although, I do remember when I switched devices a while
back, I was momentarily mildly dismayed to find out that I was back at zero. I
guess it just doesn't matter that much to me, but it does seem stupid that they
don't back this information up, since it seems to be so important to them. All
those badges you can earn etc.

RE: Deleting Books from the Audible App: An Alternate Method

2014-10-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Mary,

I can see something like this being useful. In the Audible app you can
filter by "Unfinished" by going to the cloud tab, then double tap on "All
Titles" and then pick "Unfinished" from the list of options. However, this
still shows me a lot of books which I have read and which for some reason
don't show as "Finished". But it's better than nothing and hopefully others
maybe request a better way to sort read from unread and there will be
improvements with this. One other area which I think is silly is their
listening statistics. If you ever get a new device, do a compelte restore or
even delete Audible to reinstall it you always start out from scratch. I
don't understand why they don't track total listening time from all your
devices and back this up/sync to iCloud so that if you get a new device it
will continue to add to your total. It should not be that hard to give
people the ability to look at this information by device or as a total.
It would also be nice if somewhere they showed how many books were in your
library.

Regards,
Sieghard

Sieghard, you were right, I was on the cloud, your method worked perfectly. Is
there a way to delete books you've already read from the cloud? Or will that do
that when you delete it from your device? Hope that made sense. Thank you by
the way for your patience in explaining things

RE: Deleting Books from the Audible App: An Alternate Method

2014-10-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Lelia,

Make sure you are on the Device tab and not the Cloud tab. If a book starts
downloading that means it probably wasn't downloaded completely before and
you are just restarting the download. I cannot reproduce this on my iPhone
5S and all I can repeat is that if I do what I describe it works 100%.
However, I just tried this again and if I double tap the top delete button
and then double tap refresh, it will not work for me if I swipe to the Edit
Mode button and double tap it then swipe back to delete and double tap it.
These buttons are not in order when you swipe because the delete button
comes first even though it's on the right side of the title and then if you
swipe right again you get to Edit mode which is on the left side of the
title. Here once again exactly what I do and which works for me at least:

1. Double tap the top delete button
2. Double tap Refresh
3. Put your finger at the top left of the screen and located the "Settings"
button. Now drag your finger straight down along the left edge, below the
Settings button you find a button called "All Titles", drag it down a bit
more and you should find the first "Edit Mode" button". If you are trying to
delete the last book you listened to it should be at the top and this should
be the correct button. You can always check this by sliding your finger to
the right (slide it along the screen, don't swipe). Of course you have to be
sure you are sliding straight across and not to the right and down on a
diagonal. Anyhow, if this is the title you want to delete, double tap on the
Edit Mode button after you locate it.
4. Now put your finger on the right side of the screen. I usually locate the
Refresh button and then swipe down a bit to the first Delete button. This is
the same as sliding down from All Titles to Edit Mode on the left, once you
locate the Delete button double tap it and you will get the message asking
you to confirm if you want to delete the book.

Re: Deleting Books from the Audible App: An Alternate Method

2014-10-15 Thread ROBERT CARTER
Hi,

That method has not been reliable for me. Sometimes after pressing the top
delete button, I can find an edit button and sometimes it simply is not on the
screen. Even when it is and I double-tap it, sometimes the delete button next
to the book title will result in the delete dialog and sometimes not. It is not
consistent. I don't believe any of these methods are completely consistent. At
least that has been my experience.

Robert,

The method I described several times using the delete button at the top and
the edit mode button and delete button which are associated with each title
is how Audible told me one should delete books and it is 100% reliable for
me.

Re: Deleting Books from the Audible App: An Alternate Method

2014-10-15 Thread Larry Smith
This is what I have found that works for me. Double tap the first delete
button. Double tap the refresh button. Tripple tap the edit mode button.
Tripple tap the second delete button, next to the name of the book that you are
trying to delete. The delete confirmation then comes up.

RE: Deleting Books from the Audible App: An Alternate Method

2014-10-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Craig,

I just tried what you outlined and it does not work for me at all. I tried
swiping to the Delete button as you described and I also tried a triple tap
after locating the delete button by finding it with my finger. Each time the
book just started playing, I had the normal playback screen with the cover
art, the jump forward, play/paus and jump backward buttons etc. but nowhere
did I find a prompt where I could delete the book.

Anyhow, I've gotten used to double tapping on the top delete button, then I
double tap refresh, after that it's easy to locate the edit mode button on
the left and the delete button on the right. Let's hope they get around
fixing this. I sent another email today and also suggested they finally get
around to implementing the scrub gesture for going back and also to take
Voice Dream Reader as an example as to how elegantly and efficiently
playback controls, book navigation and accessing the sleep timer can be. I
think I have yet to find a better implementation in any app.

RE: deleting books from the audible app

2013-02-20 Thread DJ
I'm going to jump in here and make another suggestion. Rather than turning
VO off and back on, maybe the delete button can be had by double-tapping and
holding the finger down on the second tap. After hearing the three
ascending notes, swipe your finger to the right, or swipe as you suggested
before in both directions. This is all while keeping your finger on the
screen until you have completed all gestures. I haven't tried it myself,
but thought it might work for you. This does work similarly in other apps
BTW.

Hi Robert,

There are only 2 options in that case:

1. Ask a sighted person to do it. Turn off Voiceover with a triple click
home if you have it set up that way. Then tell them to swipe from left to
right across the title/part of the book that didn't download correctly. At
that point a delete button pops up on the right side next to the title, tap
it and the book/part of the book is gone.

2. Put your iPhone on a table or in a place where it's stabil. Touch the
part of the book you have to delete. Lift your finger straight up just a
bit, then turn off Voiceover with the triple click home with your other
hand. Now put your finger down and swipe left to right and try to do it as
straight as possible. Lift your finger at the end of the swipe, turn on
Voiceover with a triple tap home and then find the part of the book. Swipe
right and if you swiped across the title correctly the delete button will be
there. Double tap it and the book/part of the book will be deleted.

With a bit of practice you should be able to do this pretty successfully,
sometimes if I have a book with 5 or 6 parts I delete the parts that way
after I am done with the book since it's faster than starting to play each
part, going into Info, finding "Remove from Device" and double tapping it,
then double tap again to confirm.

Sieghard

The problem here is that part 1 of the book doesn't download and I couldn't
delete it as you described because there is no info button.
