2012-08-21 Thread don bishop

Hi,

Just got ibooks. In the "getting started with ios5" book, it says you
get one free book when you download the ibook app. If so, I sure can't
find it. Was this just an offer that's expired by now? If not, how can
I get to it?

Thanks,

Don

2012-09-28 Thread Patti Johnson
Having a strange problem with my Ibooks app. I like to go in there every
couple days and look at the new titles. I thought I'd done that after I
upgraded my phone.
But yesterday, it took me to my library, so I went to the store. all it
gave me was tab and I chose that, and it kept saying in progress, loading,
but nothing came up
I could never get out of that. I made the mistake of going to pdf and it
came up with "empty list" and the only way I could get back to my library
was to search for a book in there.
I wonder what happened.
I want to get back to the store and the regular choices of features, charts,
search and purchases, I think there's another choice in there, but it won't
bring these up.
It's strange.

Okay, I can't for the life of me figure out how to start reading a book that
I bought? And is there a way to put your iBook in another form, like PDF,
and email it to yourself so you can read it without your iPhone or iPad?
Thanks.

2016-06-17 Thread Jewel
I have downloaded an Ibook, "The Desperate, The Dying and the Damned" by Jack
Ricketts. It has, according to what my finger tells me, 254 pages, but I can
only read the first one, and it appears to be, either, a very small page, or
is written in, exceedingly, large print.
How do I get the phone to read continuously, and how do I stop and bookmark it
so that when I start again, it will be at the point where I finished?
I would also like to have the book read by a voice of my own choosing.
Quite a while back, there were many letters on Voice Dream Reader. I admit
that I didn't read a single one of them! but is VDR what I want and, I assume
that that is available from the App Store.
Once I have it, how do I pick the voice I want and insert it into the book I
want it to read?

Re: Ibooks?

2013-02-08 Thread Alan Paganelli
iBooks is totally accessible. You can sync iBooks to your computer via iTunes.
You can also go into your my music folder and look for iTunes and then iTunes
media. There you'll see a folder called books. In that folder will be all
your books. You can move them in and out of that folder and even email a book
to a friend or have a friend email you a book. Just drop the book in the books
folder and sync your device. The book will then show up and be marked new.
Voice over will read the title and say new. Pretty cool.

RE: Ibooks?

2013-02-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Jeff,

It is, but you have to first touch something in the status bar, e.g. the
time, the battery status, your signal strength etc. I usually do the time
because it's easy to find right above the cut in the glass where the
earpiece is. Once Voiceover announces any of the status bar items, put 3
fingers on the screen towards the top and swipe down. This will pull up the
Notification Center, you can double tap on any notification and it will take
you into the appropriate app, e.g. if you have a Calendar notification it
will take you to the Calendar, if you have a notification maybe from some
news app you have it will take you there etc. There is also a "Clear" button
above each category of notifications and you can exit the Notification
Center the same way as you exit the app switcher, either press the home key
or double tap on the "Dismiss Notification Center" which is below all the
notifications you have. Of course if you double tap on a notification is
will close the Notification Center as well and take you to the app.

Regards,

Sieghard

iBooks is totally accessible. You can sync iBooks to your computer via
iTunes. You can also go into your my music folder and look for iTunes and
then iTunes media. There you'll see a folder called books. In that folder
will be all your books. You can move them in and out of that folder and
even email a book to a friend or have a friend email you a book. Just drop
the book in the books folder and sync your device. The book will then show
up and be marked new. Voice over will read the title and say new. Pretty
cool.

Hi,

Just got ibooks. In the "getting started with ios5" book, it says you get
one free book when you download the ibook app. If so, I sure can't find it.
Was this just an offer that's expired by now? If not, how can I get to it?

Thanks,

Re: iBooks?

2012-08-04 Thread Laura ann Grymes, LMT
you open Ibooks,
select books from top of screen,
tap on bookshelf at bottom left of screen,
select the book you want to read and tap.
the book opens and voice over will read it.
this was using the iphone.

Its the same on an iPad.
Hope that helps to read your book in Ibooks.
You can probably find a wonderful tutorial from Apple Vis or David woodbrige
from vision australia, or All with my iPhone.
All are in iTunes or you could find on their web sites.

Reading Ibooks.

2012-11-04 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Hello All.

I am having problems reading IBooks on the I Phone.

I just don't get how to select contents or pages to read Books. Can someone
explain how this should be done please? Once I new what to do but have now
forgotten. I'd also like to read I Books in Braille but don't know what to do.

If someone wishes to explain, perhaps they should write to me off list as I
want a step by step guide if that is not too much trouble as I can't read the
books ow have on my I phone.

Thank you in advance as this help will be appreciated. Perhaps someone could do
a Podcast on this to demonstrate? Either in braille or using the Phone as I'd
like to be able to do both please.

iBooks question

2013-01-22 Thread Shane clark
Hello all,
When in iBooks, when you double tap The bookmark button, is there anyway that
voice over will say, bookmark at page 45 for example? Or do you just have to go
down to the bottom of the screen, and then you will get told what page you're
on? I know that this works, but I just did not know if the bookmark Button
itself, told you what page you were on.
Thanks, Shane.

Ibooks Questions!

There are a few books on Ibooks/Kindle that I want to read that aren't
available on Bookshare or BARD. My problem though is I hate reading
books/novels with the voiceover voice. Is there any other way to read
Ibooks/kindle books besides with standard Voiceover? Is there any way
to read them on the PC? Can Kindle books be read on the PC using your
screenreader? I don't mind reading with the eloquence voice...just not
the voiceover voice.
Thanks!!

I have the iBooks app on my Iphone 5 since I upgraded to ios 8.11. What I was
wanting to know are all the books in the iBook app free or do I have to pay

If you are in the book listings and you have the book title and focus, and if
your rotor is set to action, flick up once to delete and double tap should do

2016-08-24 Thread Wayne Merritt
This way doesn't work. I can go to the book listings in the list view
in my library, but there is no action rodar item for each book. There
is also no edit button anywhere on the screen that I could find. I
would like to know this too since there are a few books that I would
like to get rid of.

Sorry about that. I could have sworn that work. I think maybe used to, but
maybe I'm just not remembering right. In any case, what will work for sure,
because I just did it, is to go into the books listing then hit the "select"
button select whatever it is you want to delete, then you will get choices near
the top of the screen as to what you want to do with the items you have
selected. Double tap on delete, and they go.

Re: iBooks

2016-08-24 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Bud,
What you need to do, is have your list of books and focus on the screen, then
find the book you want. But I was wrong about the action thing. I could have
sworn that used to work, but it doesn't anymore as noted in a subsequent
message. So with the books list on the screen, you hit select, then double tap
books you want to select for deletion, followed by double tapping the delete
button.

Re: Ibooks

2016-06-17 Thread Mary Otten
You cannot read iBooks with voice dream reader. You read iBooks in the iBooks
app. To continuously read, get focus on the page and do a two finger swipe
down. It will continuously read, when you stop and go away and close out the
book and then come back, it will pick up where you left off. You do the two
finger flick down again and reading will recommence. It will read using the
voice you have selected for voiceover. So you can use any voice that is
currently on your phone that VoiceOver has access to, such as Alex or Samantha
or Daniel etc.

I would also like to have the book read by a voice of my own choosing.

Re: Ibooks

2016-06-18 Thread Alan Paganelli
Flick 2 fingers down. You'll hear a sound every time the page automatically
changes. If I remember right, a 3 finger single tap will pause the reading.
Repeats the gesture to continue. It's been awhile so if I got any of these
wrong, I'd be happy to be set straight too.

Hello all.
It's been a while since I used iBooks, but since updating to the latest

through pages, voiceover does not read for example page 5,of 6 etc? Seemed like
in previous versions it did. Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks.

Re: ibooks?

2013-08-15 Thread Chris H
Well, for new books you download from the iBooks store you can go to
settings, iTunes and app stores, and turn books on in the automatically
download heading. This way any new books downloaded to your device will
also download on the others. You can also do this the other way round by
turning books on on the appropriate devices. For desktop iTunes go to
preferences, store and check the books check box.

Re: Ibooks

Hello,

Do you have iTunes set to sync the books, and if you have it set to sync
selected books, have you checked the books you want on your phone? If you do
that, the books should load.

Best,

Re: iBooks Question

2012-06-25 Thread Kimber Gardner
Okay, I just tried it on my phone and here is what I did.

Open iBooks and if you aren't in the library view double tap the
library button in the upper left of the screen.

Once there, verify that the book you want to delete is on the screen.
Double tap the edit button. Touch the title of the book you want to
delete and you should hear a message (if you have hints on) that says
something like double tap to select the book then choose move or
delete. You will will then be able to double tap the delete button.
You will be prompted whether you really want to delete the book.

iBooks help needed

2012-07-30 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

As a result of a mess up that I won't detail, I had to reinstall
iBooks on my iPhone. The trouble is, now I can't find the books I had
purchased from the iBooks store. They are books not pdf files and
though they are on my laptop in iTunes, I can't see them on the phone.
All my pdf files are there, but the books are MIA.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

pdfs in ibooks

2012-08-06 Thread Cristi Fogus Wetherholt Allyn PWDs
When listening to pdfs on ibooks, I can't figure out how to select which
parts of the page I want to hear. All I seem to be able to do it hear the
entire page from the beginning. Occasionally, I want to listen to certain
sections again but it just starts the page over. Is there a way to do this
or a better app for listening to pdfs?

Additionally, is there a way to rename the files within the phone? Many
times, the names given by the author are less than descriptive.

If it is relevant, it is usually pdfs that I have found on the web and
choose to "open in ibooks" so it is there for reference later.

Thanks,
Cristi Fogus Wetherholt

help with Ibooks?

2012-05-22 Thread fred olver
This past weekend I downloaded a free app called ibooks search. Within it were
several catagories listed, one of them to project goutenberg which as some of
you will recall is a repository of free books. Anyway, I attempted to download
a book, The Great Gatsbee and couldn't figure out what to do after that. I
guess that's the long way of saying I could use some help with Ibooks or some
direction where I might find some information on how to use it.

Thanks in advance.

Re: ibooks question

2012-10-28 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

The Search button near the top right of the screen will do both. You can type
in either a search term or page number. Another way to move to a page is using
the Page Switcher at the bottom of the screen. Double-tap and hold, and then
slide your finger left or right. If you slide left, you move back in the book,
while you move forward if you slide right. The speed with which you move your
finger determines how far you'll move in the book.

When the page chooser at the bottom has focus, you can now quickly flick up or
down to move by pages. That might be faster for some than three finger left and

When the page chooser at the bottom has focus, you can now quickly flick
up or down to move by pages. That might be faster for some than three
finger left and right swipes, especially on the iPhone with the smaller
screen.

Re: ibooks question

2012-10-29 Thread Brett
Hi,

How far you jump will depend on the size of the book, the smaller the book, the
further you will scroll with the same motion. To scroll in small increments,
double tap and hold, then just role your finger slightly to the right, then
lift it. This should move you forward a few pages only. With a bit of practice,
it gets quite easy. If you cannot get the hang of it, just focus the page
picker and quickly swipe up with one finger to change pages.

Cheers,
Brett.

Re: Reading Ibooks.

2012-11-04 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, Kawal,

When you open IBooks for the first time, you're presented with the library.
This is where your books are organized. If you have books already, simply pick
a book and double-tap to open it. With speech, you can begin reading the book
by using the two-finger-downward-flick gesture. To pause and resume speech, you
use the two-finger-single-tap. With speech VO will read continuously and turn
pages as it goes. If you close IBooks in the middle of a book, it will retain
your place when you open it again. You can always find the library at the top
of the screen to choose another book.

With Braille, you have to pair a Bluetooth display. Unfortunately you do have
to turn pages manually with Braille by using dots 1-3-5-space for next page and
dots 2-4-6-space for previous page.

At the top of the screen are controls for Ibooks. When you go into the library,
you can choose "store" to shop for books.

Teresa

Re: Reading Ibooks.

2012-11-04 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

In addition to what Teresa said, if you're using braille, read past the last
line, pan left, and then give the Next Page command. This will take you to the
top of the next page. And many braille displays have commands you can use
instead of Space with O and Space with 2-4-6. On the Focus 40 Blue, for
instance, pressing down on the right rocker button takes you to the next page,
while pressing up takes you to the previous one.

HTH,
Anna

Nook versus iBooks

2012-11-28 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

I'm excited by the new availability of the Nook app.

For folks who may have both, is the reading experience similar in both?

I looked for a book yesterday at B&N and found it, for Nook, at $14.99. I then
looked on iBooks and it was available for $9.99. It will be nice to have 2
markets from which to choose, with different pricing options and sales
offerings. Hopefully, Nook will evolve to include in app purchasing. The price
and in app purchasing for this item were nice, but it sounds like the B&N
website to Nook link is super, too.

Keith

you cannot read on a PC. You can read them on a Mac, but then you have to use
one of the voiceover voices. You can read Kindle books on a PC, with the
accessibility plug-in. But navigation is limited as is voice selection. And you
cannot use your screen reader on a PC to read Kindle books.

Re: Ibooks Questions!

2015-06-17 Thread Chris Smart

There are utilities you can get that will let you remove DRM and convert
Kindle to epub, mobi etc. on the PC. I'm not sure whether that can be
talked about openly but there are ways of doing this. Then read the book
in whichever program you wish once it is converted. My favorite program
for reading books on the PC is QRead from Accessible Apps.

Re: iBooks format?

2013-06-20 Thread Timothy Emmons
Yes, put them where you can get to them, add to library in iTunes, and then
make sure that sync books is checked on your phone or iDevice, and it should
snag them, but you have to add them to the iTunes library or they won't show.
Hope that helps.
