ICloud Drive questions

2018-01-21 Thread Vicki W.
Good Morning,

I have set up ICloud drive on my computer and now it seems when opening it, I
need to set up an account before accessing things. That's no problem, but I'm
wondering how I choose which things from my Mini IPad and IPhone will show up
on ICloud drive on the computer.

I have ICloud drive turned on on both of my devices. Do I need to do more
things on my computer or my devices to access things?

Thanks.

Vicki

No. It just means your documents won't be synced to iCloud Drive. Turn iCloud

Music in iCloud Drive

2016-01-16 Thread Gordan Radić

Hi!
I never used iCloud drive except for automatically storing phone
backups + syncing contacts, notes, bookmarks, e-mail etc.
I wonder could I upload some music from my offline MP3 library using
the Windows app and than stream that music on my iPhone?
If this is not the case, what is the exact procedure to listen to my
own mp3s from iCloud without the need to sync music physically on my
phone via iTunes app?
Thanks for your answers!

Hello. You need to sign in with your Apple ID and password on your computer.
After that, you will get choices to sync things such as contacts and calendars

RE: Music in iCloud Drive

2016-01-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
There is no answer, unless you subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match and
upload your music, but once again this has to be done via iTunes.

The only other thing you can do is use an app like Dropbox, put the music in a
Dropbox folder and access and play it with the Dropbox app, but you won’t be
able to use the native music app unless the music is either synced to your
phone with iTunes or it lives in your iCloud account

You could use dropbox, and use some of the apps that can stream from dropbox.

It could be evermusic pro, but there are others available.

RE: Music in iCloud Drive

2016-01-17 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I know you can play music in Dropbox and if you search for “Dropbox music apps
on iTunes” you get a bunch of results. One of them is “Cloudplayer” which can
access music you store in Dropbox and I remember having seen it discussed here
a time or two. I can’t speak to its accessibility, but maybe somebody else is
using it.

On another note, do you have a PC with iTunes? It really is not that difficult
to import a bunch of MP3 files into iTunes and to then sync them to your phone.

Re: Music in iCloud Drive

2016-01-17 Thread Gordan Radić

Hi!
Yes, I have, typing from it right now but
My iPhone has only 16 gb and with system and apps you can guess how
much storage I have left xD.
On the other hand, Ihave about terabyte of music on my external
drive and I'd like to have it everywhere I go. OK, OK, not listening
everything from there on daily basis but also never know in what
mood I'll be tomorrow.
I researched some streaming services and the only one available in
my country is Deezer which is a way far from accessible. iOS app is
a mess and although I can do some work with it it's really hard to
navigate and you have to guess what are the labels for certain
buttons and options. The web interface for Mac or PC is full of
unlabeled buttons and I had to remember the exact order to operate
the playback. I tried three browsers with two screen readers and
it's a pain.
And, last but not least, I'd have to pay Deezer 7 euros per month
and I already have a 1 tb of OneDrive storage. I thought I could use
iCloud Drive for easier listening through native app but since it's
a no go I'd rather try with something else capable of streaming from
cloud services. Today I discovered such an app but you probably read
it by now. So, after some thinking I concluded I'd rather upload my
existing mp3s to the cloud than paying some quite unusable service.
I still can use Deezer to flow and ix and discover new artists but
for intended listening cloud player is a way better solution from my
point of view.
Some day in the future when Apple Music will be available in my
country I'd certainly go for that but 'till then...

“Dropbox music apps on iTunes” you get a bunch of results.
One of them is “Cloudplayer” which can access music you
store in Dropbox and I remember having seen it discussed
here a time or two. I can’t speak to its accessibility, but
maybe somebody else is using it.

On
another note, do you have a PC with iTunes? It really is not
that difficult to import a bunch of MP3 files into iTunes

I use the cloudbeats player and store my music in dropbox. I love it. I find
the cloudbeats player rather accessible. You might just have to play with it
for a bit, but you can do everything with it using voice over.

question on ICloud backups & ICloud Drive

2017-09-28 Thread Vicki W.
I am using IOS 10.3.3 on my mini IPad II.

I have ICloud drive turned on. Shouldn't I be able to access it on the IPad to
see my files and backups, and if so, how?

Do I need to activate it in ITunes on the PC and will an icon show up on my
desktop and on my home screen on the IPAD?

Right now I can only access one backup in ICloud on the mini IPad to delete.

Thanks.

Apple releases iCloud Drive for Windows PCs

2014-10-21 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

The following is a recent article I came across that you may find useful.

The link to the original article can be found at the end of the text.

Mark

Mac users are better off waiting for OS X Yosemite to drop before upgrading
to iCloud Drive, but iOS 8-toting Windows users are cleared for takeoff.
Apple recently released an upgraded version of iCloud for Windows loaded
with iCloud Drive.

Apple has added iCloud Drive to iCloud for Windows.

To enable the feature, just grab and install iCloud for Windows from Apple's
support page. After a reboot, you'll see the option to enable Cloud Drive by
marking a check box on the iCloud control panel.

Once that's done, you'll see a new entry for iCloud Drive under Favorites in
File Explorer, similar to other cloud storage services like Dropbox and
Google Drive.

By default, iCloud Drive comes with three app-specific folders for Keynote,
Numbers, and Pages. You can also drag-and-drop files and create folders of
your choosing just as with other syncing services.

While it's nice to upgrade early, your iPhone and/or iPad will have to be
running iOS 8, released on Wednesday, for iCloud Drive to be of any use on
mobile devices.

Apple's answer to Dropbox was first introduced during the company's annual
Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.

Windows users are the first to get a taste of full iCloud Drive support, as
Mac users have to wait for Apple to release OS X Yosemite sometime this
fall.

Syncing Question from New iCloud Drive User

2016-04-06 Thread Alan Lemly
Hello List,

I just installed iCloud for Windows on my Windows 7 computer and have a
question about syncing before I step in something and end up with duplicates
on my iPhone 6.

I understand conceptually that with iCloud for Windows, items I have ticked
such as Outlook contacts and calendars will be kept in sync between my
computer and the Apple servers hosting the iCloud. I've always synced my
contacts and calendars and music between my computer and my iPhone using
iTunes and expect I'll continue to sync my music this way going forward. I
just want to make sure before turning on contacts and calendars in my iPhone
iCloud settings that doing this won't cause duplicates.

Can someone who has been using iCloud and iTunes give me a bit of an
overview and assurance that I won't cause duplication on my phone by turning
on iCloud contacts and calendars? I also assume the devices are smart enough
not to duplicate items if I run a sync operation within iTunes. I'm just a
bit nervous since syncing things to iCloud and having those same items
checked to sync in iTunes in what I'll call a manual sync seems a bit
counter-intuitive. Do those who use iCloud for syncing make sure the same
things aren't marked for syncing in iTunes?

Thanks for any guidance you can offer.

Accessing ICloud Drive from a Windows PC?

2015-11-25 Thread Gerardo Corripio

 Listers
Is it possible as of yet, to somehow access ICloud Drive from a Windows
pc, maybe via a PC program, like how one would interface Dropbox, Mega
etc? Let's say I'm want to put a document on ICloud Drive by using the
PC, and then via the IPhone, Icould later read or edit it, thus is this
the idea of ICloud Drive?

Accessibility of iCloud Drive in Windows Discovery

2018-05-05 Thread Gerardo Corripio
Remember in days past, I wondered why ICloud Drive wasn't accessible on
Windows? Well it is! But how did I find out? I never thought to look within All
Programs in Windows7, and so I opened the ICloud subfulder just to see what was
in there: and I saw ICloud Drive, and thought «ok it most likely won't be
accessible, but I'll just open it up»; and can you believe I'm able to see all
the folder structure, can delete and move files from one ICloud subfolder to
another just with Windows Explorer? Wow! I still feel as if I'm dreaming! The
only thing that's not available for us (or accessible rather) with either NVDA
or Jaws, is where it says iCloud Photos. I sure wish Apple would"expand the
free ICloud space"from 5 to maybe 10GB! Remember how during the Apple Event
this"past March, Apple said that studens get 200GB of ICloud space for free!

Re: question on ICloud backups & ICloud Drive

2017-09-29 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Vicki,

The files you can see in iCloud Drive are things like documents you have saved
in Pages and Voice Dream Writer. There's no way to see iCloud backups or access
the data in those backups. If you go to Settings, choose iCloud, and then
choose Manage Storage, you can see which devices and apps' data are being
backed up, though.

Best,
Anna

2016-04-06 Thread Alan Lemly
Mark,

Thanks much for the warning. I'm glad I asked the question.

I am somewhat perplexed why this causes duplicates but I expect it's that
syncing works between two devices and throwing a third into the mix messes
things up. My contacts and calendars are based in Outlook 2010. If that is the
source of what goes into iTunes and also what goes into iCloud, I don't
understand why the sync between the phone and either iTunes or iCloud doesn't
only create items which are in one but not the other.

RE: Syncing Question from New iCloud Drive User

2016-04-07 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Alan,

No problem. Glad I could help.

As for understanding why Contacts/calendar appointment syncing, on Windows, is
the way it is, I would ask that you keep in mind that (1) iTunes predates the
iCloud Control Panel by several years. In an effort to preserve backward
compatibility for the various versions of Outlook both synchronization paths
have to coexist, so-to-speak and (2) there are those who use both Windows and
OS X without benefit of an iOS device. Without an iOS device, the iCloud
Control Panel is the only way to maintain cross-platform synchronization..

Generally, I recommend using the iCloud Control Panel instead of iTunes for
contact/appointment synchronization if for no other reason than the fact that
by doing so, one is not required to attach a device to a PC in order to update
the information.

Regardless, everyone likes what they like and as long as it works, that's all
that matters.

I would suggest, however, that with the arrival of Windows 10, it may be only a
matter of time before iTunes for Windows no longer support contact/calendar
synchronization. This is just a guess, on my part, nothing more.

Mark,

At this point my syncing questions are moot. I should have known that
installing iCloud for windows was going to expect me to run the latest version
of iTunes which I discovered today no longer runs on my system but instead
returns an error dialog. I'm still not ready to give up the sidebar of iTunes
11.4 although I know it is inevitable at some point.

I'm glad I made a full system image backup before installing iCloud for windows
because I should have my system back like it was pre-iCloud when the restore
completes in a couple of hours.

Re: CloudBeats Player, was: Music in iCloud Drive

2016-01-17 Thread Gordan Radić

Hi!
To answer my question and the one from the other thread, I found
something called CloudBeats player on the Appstore.
There are free and pro versions and after some testing I went to the
pro for $4.
This player supports sstreaming from DropBox, Google Drive,
OneDrive, The Box, MediaFire plus streaming from some cloud of your
own and home NAS with WebDAV support.
I don't know why it doesn't support iCloud but maybe it will be
available in the future.
You can create a music library from multiple clouds and the player
supports standard playback features plus shuffle, repeat and repeat
one. Besides this it supports position remembering, speed changing
up to 2,5x and setting bookmarks for audio books.
There is also a "radio" mode where the app shuffles your songs with
crossfading from multiple sources.
You can store your favorite songs for offline use.
Accessibility is pretty much fair, all the controls and buttons are
correctly labeled but it has some minor navigation issues. It
doesn't support twofinger Z scrubb gesture for going backwards and
sometimes it wont focus the Library main window. For back gesture
there's no solution except hitting the apropriatte button in the
upper left corner and regarding focus in the Library it gets back
after switching some other items from the Navigation menu a few
times. If it doesn't get back, restarting of app is fixing the
issue.
I'm planning to write to developers about these issues because
besides this few glitches the app is more than excellent.
P.S. You're able to turn off mobile data usage and use it just with
WiFi.

You could use dropbox, and use some of the apps that can stream

Re: CloudBeats Player, was: Music in iCloud Drive

2016-01-17 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi Gordan.

It is a great app. I have had it for a long time. My only problem is that it
will not update my file lists from dropbox automatically, I can not really
figure that out. But it is a really great app.

Best regards Annie.

Yes. You find the file in Windows Explorer you want to copy. Find iCloud Drive
in the tree view in Windows Explorer and paste what you copied.

RE: Accessing ICloud Drive from a Windows PC?

2015-11-27 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Gerardo,

You can always check for apple updates via the Start menu in Windows.

So, in Windows 7, from the Start menu, type in "Apple update" and either the
first or second item in the results list will read something like check for
Apple Updates. Select that and you will, once again, see the dialog box that
will allow you to install the Apple iCloud control Panel.

Once the Apple iCloud Control Panel is installed, you may elect to either show
or hide the Apple iCloud drive.

Good Luck,

mark

Is ICloud Drive for Windows accessible with NVDA?

2017-05-06 Thread Gerardo Corripio
I'm wanting to somehow, the notes I've saved on my iPhone on ICloud so I
can interact with them on my Windows7 Laptop (edit them more etc), to
access the folder on which they're saved on ICloud, for which I
installed the most current version of ICloud Drive, but NVDA doesn't
read the ICloud pannel! and when I go into Windows Explorer, I only see
a folder entitled "Pictures on ICloud" but no ICloud drive, even though
I just activated/updated to ICloud on my 5S! What am I doing wrong then,
or is ICloud not accessible with NVDA at all, or what settings would I
need to change somewhere, so that in Windows Explorer, the ICloud Drive
folder appears? Thanks for ideas since I'm getting very very frustrated!

ANOTHER USEFUL FEATURE - AT LAST - ACCESS TO iCLOUD DRIVE!

2015-09-19 Thread 'carol.pearso...@googlemail.com' via VIPhone
I've just discovered that you can now view your iCloud drive in iOS 9 and can
have it put on your Home screen if you wish.

It all appears to work for me, with a 4S and I was able to find a couple of
files that could be deleted. You do get a warning that deleting such files
will remove them from each item you use with iCloud. That is fine with me!

Incidentally, I didn't have room on my Home screen, so it very kindly put it on
the second page for me, which equally suits me.

This is another plus for me!

Is iCloud Drive only accessible by web browser on Windows?

2014-09-17 Thread Ryan Mann
Is iCloud Drive only accessible by web browser on a Windows PC? I hope not,
because the icloud.com web site doesn't appear very friendly with JAWS or NVDA.
I was hoping there was a way to access it with Windows Explorer so I could
just hit Control+c and Control+v to paste files into it.

Re: Is iCloud Drive only accessible by web browser on Windows?

2014-09-18 Thread christopher hallsworth
As I understand it you have to create a document in an app where iCloud Drive
is supported. Save that document to iCloud Drive so you can carry on with it on
another device. Since this is not fully supported yet until OS X Yosemite is
released next month it is probably not worth trying it yet.

Re: Is iCloud Drive only accessible by web browser on Windows?

2014-09-18 Thread Grant Hardy
It appears that iCloud Drive is supported in the latest iCloud Control Panel. I
have not tried enabling it as my primary operating system is now Mac OS X
Mavericks, but I did boot up into Windows today and was offered an update to
the iCloud Control Panel. iCloud Drive is now one of the services offered. That
would be quite unprecedented, if it turns out that this is supported in Windows
before Mac users can use it.

What exactly is iCloud Drive, and why do I need it?

2017-04-27 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello again, everyone,

Ok, I think my subject says it all. I would like to know what exactly
iCloud Drive is.

Can anyone help me figure this out?

Also, with the latest update, it states that I need it.

Why is this?

What happens if I don't want it?

Right now, I don't have it set up. But I will certainly do this, if at
all necessary.

Is it free, or does it cost?

I don't care either way. Just something I would like to know.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: What exactly is iCloud Drive, and why do I need it?

2017-04-27 Thread Michael Feir
Hi Terri. You get an initial 5 gb of iCloud storage space free of charge
and iCloud drive can make use of that. You can also pay for additional
storage. I pay for 200 GB of storage and use iCloud drive to have large
files like audio dramas in zipped mp3 files available. I can then download
them to my iPHONE when I want them. Apps such as Ulysses also make use of
iCloud drive to store files. You can use the iCloud Drive app to browse
files and folders present in your iCloud drive. I think you should set it
up since you can do so at no cost. For casual users, the 5 GB of iCloud
storage is plenty of space. Hope that helps.

Re: What exactly is iCloud Drive, and why do I need it?

2017-04-27 Thread Michael Feir
You don't have to sign up for anything other than iCloud which you likely
already have. Go into setting and into the settings about your Apple ID. It
has a whole bunch of stuff in there including the iCloud settings. One of
these is iCloud drive. It should be turned on. Once you've done that, apps
can use iCloud drive. Also, it's possible to transfer files from your
computer into iCloud drive. That's what I did with my audio dramas. I can
then import them into Voice Dream Reader of VLC Media Player for listening.
Once you've turned on iCloud drive, an iCloud Drive app will appear on your
home screen.

Don't forget that iCloud Drive is still the same storage as your iCloud.
The more files you put into iCloud drive, the less room is left for backing
up your device. Hope that helps get you started.

RE: What exactly is iCloud Drive, and why do I need it?

2017-04-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you want to use iCloud Drive to transfer files on a computer to the iPhone
to use in an app like Voicedream Reader you wll have to install the iCloud
application on your PC. This will create an iCloud folder and it's essentially
similar to how Dropbox creates a Dropbox folder.

Hi Terri. You get an initial 5 gb of iCloud storage space free of charge and
iCloud drive can make use of that. You can also pay for additional storage. I
pay for 200 GB of storage and use iCloud drive to have large files like audio
dramas in zipped mp3 files available. I can then download them to my iPHONE
when I want them. Apps such as Ulysses also make use of iCloud drive to store
files. You can use the iCloud Drive app to browse files and folders present in
your iCloud drive. I think you should set it up since you can do so at no cost.
For casual users, the 5 GB of iCloud storage is plenty of space. Hope that
helps.

iCloud Drive is.

Thank you,

Terri

Voice dream Reader and Moving books from iBooks to iCloud drive or dopbox

2015-09-24 Thread Tim Emmons
Ok guys, I am stumped, I know there is a possibility of this but I don’t know
how. I’ve done it, once. And once was all a while back. I want to move a couple
books from my iBooks to say, either Dropbox or iCloud Drive in order to use
them with Voice Dream reader. These are unprotected EPub so I know they would
work, but I forget how to do the move. Any idea? Thanks and any help here would
be appreciated. Take care.
