Re: problem with gmail
Thanks for that one. I knew about older devices such as Braille Sense, but I hadn't realised this was the case with Thunderbird (which I've just started to use) and Outlook. That's probably why I've had to sign in a time or two, but now everything seems stable enough! RE: problem with gmail
Sure makes me glad that when I decided which service to go with I chose Hotmail or, to use its current and probably final name, Outlook.com. Especially now that the web interface also has become very accessible, I feel that Exchange aCtive Sync works much better than IMAP. The native mail app supports it beautifully, push email works and while I read lots of messages where people have issues with gmail, I rarely see any discussion at all about Outlook.com. RE: problem with gmail
Gmail uses IMAP which means it simply syncs whichever devie you use it on to your online account and you can do this with 100 devices if you like, phones, computers, tablets etc. My guess is that your friend is not entering something correctly, maybe he or she is missing something with the password, all it takes is one mistake like a lower case letter instead of an upper case letter or vice versa and it won't work. Also, in case he or she has 2-step verification turned on this would require additional verification before it works. Hi Mark, Thank you for pointing this out. I did not even realize that gmail was having problems with its servers. RE: problem with gmail
Hello Terrie, I can tell you that Google has been experiencing problems with its servers for the last couple of weeks or so, I have encountered the same error messages in Outlook, on my Windows computers, on my Android devices, on my Macs, and on my Windows phones. I have herd the same complaints from friends of mine all across the United States. It appears to be a kind of rolling outage. That is to say, it affects various areas at different times. Re: problem with gmail
Hello Terrie, Do you have more than one gmail account set up in the mail app on your phone? If so, do you have them both set to fetch at a specific interval? This was my set up since I have one gmail account for home and another for school. I had these both fetching at 15 minute intervals and I noticed that when entering the mail app I would receive messages of cannot get mail which would happen after a couple of weeks or so. Similar to you, I had to delete and recreate the offending account to stop this message from appearing. Setting one of these to manual fetch resulted in my not getting these messages any longer. I hope that this helps in your situation On 10/20/15, terrie arnold wrote: > > > I have had a problem with gmail , I keep getting a message saying > that I can not get mail from gmail. I have also noted that with the de eve updates, the native Mail app very often hangs when trying to download gmail messages. Re: Having problem with Gmail
You need to delete your Gmail account and then go back in and reset it up but is there a glitch with the last update if it's on your iOS phone so I had to do that with my Gmail account because it was just really messed up so hope this helps because I messed with it for several weeks from the time the last iOS update Sent from my iPhone > On May 1, 2015, at 6:23 AM, Dave wrote: > > > HI. > > I am writing on behalf of my sister Maria, as she is unable to send or > receive email at the moment. > > I am having problems receiving or sending email with gmail. Re: Having problem with Gmail
Hi. I have a couple of suggestions. First, if you delete and recreate the account on the Mac or phone, it should default to IMAP and you won't or shouldn't have to worry about the IMAP and SMTP server names and port numbers: those are set for you and it should just work. If not, the problem may be with GMail's security settings. If that's the case, the evidence will be quite clear when you log onto the account using the web page. You'll notice a message or two talking about unauthorized access to the account and in the message you'll find a link to a page where you can tweak the security settings. It seems that some commonly-used mail clients use a lower security level and GMail's security settings are too high to allow access to the account for sending and receiving. The solution, or at least the gist of it: on the web, open account settings, and allow access by less secure devices. Once you do this, your mail clients should work just fine. I've had to do this for PC's and laptops running Microsoft Outlook 2010 and/or 2013, and for students of mine who were trying to use BrailleNote Apex note-takers to access their GMail servers for sending and receiving. Oddly enough, although the web page talks about less secure clients on mobile devices, including iPhones, I haven't had this issue on any of my iPhones, including my 4, 5s and 6. Maybe I just got lucky, but I doubt it since I've set up mail accounts on my girlfriend's phone and several students' iPhones, too. Having problem with Gmail
HI. I am writing on behalf of my sister Maria, as she is unable to send or receive email at the moment. I am having problems receiving or sending email with gmail. I can see my emails if I log on to the web but cannot send or receive them through my mac running mavericks or my iPhone running the latest update. I have tried deleting my gmail account and recreating it. I just got an unknown error when trying to do this. Does anyone have any idea of anything I can try? Is anyone else having problems with gmail? thanks in advance. Dave. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list.
