Not Transferring, was Re: Transferring music from old to new phone?

2020-05-20 Thread Arnold Schmidt
Being that I now have ITunes Match, and that I stream Apple Music, can I
specificly not transfer the music from this phone to a new one when updating
phone to phone? Can I specify what I want transferred, or is it all or nothing?
If so, I almost could get by with a 64 gig model, although I will probably
still get the 128 model. Thanks for any information.

RE: Tips for transferring music to iPhone with folder-like structure?

2016-02-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you use iTunes and want to use the music app then preserving folder
structure is not possible. iTunes and the music app strictly use the tags for
organizing your music. If a "various artists" album is tagged correctly it will
show up under "Compilations" in the artists view so you can still play the
entire album. The trick is to use both the "artist" tag and the "Album Artist"
tag. Of course you would have your song title and album title, but make sure
that the "artist" field has the actual name of the artist. For example, let's
say you have the songs San Francisco and Maybe Baby onyour oldies album, make
sure you put Scott McKenzie and Buddy Holly in the artist fields, respectively.
However, when you get to the album artist field, here you want to simply put
"Various Artists" in for all songs on the album.
Also, in iTunes you have a checkbox you have to check which says "Album is a
compilation of songs by various artists". If you do this for all the songs on
each compilation album and make sure the album title is exactly the same then
it will be grouped correctly.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Title: San Francisco
Artist: Scott McKenzie
Album: Best Oldies"
Album Artist: Various Artists

  HI guys
Tips so that the music on my iPhone gets transferred as much as possible
similar to how on an mP3 Player in which each folder is an album? How I've
proceeded so far is before transferring the music to the phone, via the MP3Tag
program on my Windows7 Laptop, where it says album, I rename the list of songs,
to the name of the folder, in this case Houston's music; also where it says
artist, I put various, but why even though I made these changes, does my phone
still show names like Houston music Sheryl crow, Houston music Billy joel etc?
I'd liked to have Houston music Various as one album, but can this be done, did
I maybe not select all the files, even though I'm sure I did before relabling
them with MP3 Tag? Thanks for info.

Oh, the iCloud checkbox is actually in general not sharing.

Look in iTunes under edit and preferences. Go to the sharing tab. Make sure
that the iCloud box is check. It says something like show iCloud purchases.

I have also noticed this: with the iCloud music library enabled, it seems no
longer possible to use iTunes to select which music to sync with my phone -
perhaps because the idea is (as with iTunes Match) that all your music from
your iTunes library will be available on you iPhone via the streaming from
iCloud library? But what about when I have no wifi and no cellular connection?
Or when I'm abroad and dont want to pay roaming charges? It all seems so unlike
Apple to leave such a massive process so poorly explained to us customers. Harry

RE: transferring music from ipod touch

2015-01-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi,

No, you can’t transfer directly. You would have to use a program like Copy
Trans which is not free and has accessibility challenges as well. It would be
easiest if somebody could give you the music that is on the iPod on a USB stick
since it’s probably on somebody’s computer and was transferred to the iPod
using iTunes. You could then add the music to your own iTunes library and sync
it to your phone.

Regards,

Sieghard

RE: transferring music from ipod touch

2015-01-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Via iTunes would be the short answer. It would help if you gave a bit more
information especially how the music on your iPhone ended up on your iPhone
since really the only way to get it there if it’s not jailbroken would have
been with iTunes or if you bought the music on your phone from iTunes and it

RE: Transferring Music to iPhone

2014-07-20 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Scott,

Did you ever get this problem resolved or did you receive any replies from
anyone on the list?

Generally speaking, I use Windows Media player to rip albums but it may be a
better idea to use iTunes to rip them.

In the future, should you use iTunes, set your media importer to MP3. You
can do this from within the Preferences area of iTunes.

Generally speaking, whenever I import an album into iTunes, the first thing
I do is to add all of its songs to a new Playlist. I find that Playlists
are easier to control and manipulate. For example, I like all of the songs
that I rip from an old album I've had for 20 years to be in the same play
order as they were on the CD. Many times I find that I must manually
rearrange songs on a playlist to get this to happen. It's a bit
obsessive-compulsive, I know, but it matters to me.

Hi,
I just ripped seven albums to MP3, using Windows Media Player. I put all of
the MP3 files in a single folder and then imported that folder into my

showed up on my phone, even though they all show up In iTunes. I don't do

idea what I may be doing wrong. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If your brother is local to you, he could share his library and let you have
access via home network to his songs. Otherwise, you'd have to be signed in

RE: Transferring Music

Hi Reg,

As long as your brother has the songs on his computer he could just give
them to you on a USB stick. You would then copy them into your Music folder
in iTunes Media, add the folder to your library and then you can select the
songs to sync to your device.

Subject: RE: 12 Days of Gifts Question About Transferring Music

Hi Suzanne,

Instructions can be generic or detailed. I can say making a ringtone in
iTunes is so easy:
select the 40 seconds of a song you want, create an M4A version of that part
of the song, rename it and import to your library then sync.
Of course for somebody who has never done this these instructions are pretty
useless since they don't explain how you select the 40 seconds of the song
you want, how you create an M4A version of that, what's involved in renaming
that file and to what you have to rename it to and lastly on how to best get
it into your tones library.

So, now to your issue. Before I can explain in detail how you might do this,
I have some questions:

1. Do you sync your phone and your daughter's iPad Mini to a computer?
2. If so, do you use the same computer to sync them to?
3. If you sync them to the same computer, is it a Mac or a PC, if PC which
version of Windows/iTunes?
4. If it's a PC, do you have different Windows sign-ins or do you use the
same user name and password?

Maybe you can answer these, you can just put your answers underneath each
question in your reply. If you wish email me directly and I'll help you
off-list.

Happy New Year,
Sieghard

You will need iTunes and both devices will need to be able to sync with that

account. You can move out the songs, books, movies etc that you don't want
her to have and then sync her device. The new stuff will go onto her
device. Then just copy all the stuff you didn't want her to have back to
iTunes and sync your device again and your done.

I have some questions:

1. Do you sync your phone and your daughter's iPad Mini to a computer?
Answer; my iPhone is synced to a desktop PC running Windows 7 and JAWS. I
have never synced her mini to this computer but would be happy to do so.

2. If so, do you use the same computer to sync them to?
3. If you sync them to the same computer, is it a Mac or a PC, if PC which
version of Windows/iTunes?
Answer: Windows 7 and the latest iTunes. I think it's 11.1.3.
4. If it's a PC, do you have different Windows sign-ins or do you use the

Answer: in the past, I made a second library for my daughter but never
really figured out how to use it. I would much rather use my library and
manually put things in and take things out of her iPad, without her iPad
mini getting flooded with my apps and music.

Any help you could give would be very much appreciated.

to open it but at the very least, I got a free movie out of it so that's
worth it even if nothing else is and we're only half way through. So, bring

it on! I love free! My favorite price! LOL!

Yes, you can go back, but you would need to know the name of the missed app.

I just downloaded the movie Hugo. It was still Free.

Apparently I missed a day when a game was given away. I remember someone
saying that their was 2 games. I remember seeing the chore game app.

I think I saw in the FAQ about what if I miss my download but can't
remember what it said and I'm to lazy to go look so if your really
interested, there may be something there.

I've wanted to see Hugo, so I'm happy to get that. I wonder if it's
available on MovieReader for audio description? I'm going to find out. :)
I missed a couple of days, and it doesn't seem to let you get the gifts
you missed. That's ok; beggars can't be choosers. Oh, and I really like
the Lonely Planet travel guide series, so basically, I'm quite happy with
 the app.

 Hi,

As Billy said, it's been mentioned a few times, they started out with a
welcome gift so to speak before Christmas and it was a song by Lorde, the

young female singer from New Zealand.

As for your statement, Billy, I don't think downloading and taking
advantage of the gifts offered depends on your version of iOS.

Lastly, not being impressed by the gifts is subjective, there maybe only
1 or 2 in the collection you like or maybe there are more or maybe there
are none. But, as the saying goes, you don't look a gift horse
in the mouth, the app is free and if you check it out every day and end
up not getting anything you aren't any worse off.

 Regards,

 Sieghard
