Re: Using Voicevista for turn by turn directions

2023-07-08 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
That is exactly what I was hoping for. I like the easy way of recording and
setting markers. However I would also like to be able to have the change of
direction automatically voiced without having to press a button.
I have a paid app and have never been able to figure out how to accomplish
these two tasks with blind square or I would have been using that because I
like the way it uses my watch.

Using VoiceVista, is their way you can set the app to announce what is ahead of
you by moving the phone instead of tapping the button? With Sound Scape we were
able to do this.

I don't think it does that. It looks to me like you have to have dropped a bunch of waypoints along a route and then you can create a route out of those waypoints. It says on the route screen:

Create a route for yourself or for someone else by organizing a set of markers as waypoints on a route. While out on your route with VoiceVista, you will be informed on arrival to each waypoint, and the Audio
Beacon will automatically advance to the next waypoint.

Yes, I suspect you’re right. I did switch back to Good Maps Explorer just to
try to compare the two, and at least superficially, it brings some of the same
features to the table that you got in Sound Scape and you now get in Voice
Vista.

At this stage, I think VoiceVista is not useful for turn by turn directions at
all. Stick with Apple Maps, Google Maps, GoodMaps Outdoors if you want turn by
turn directions to some place you have not been before. I think VoiceVista
could be used to say drop a bunch of way points while out for a walk and then
string a route together to retrace your steps or something like that.
But, that is just a guess.

Brett,
Did you tap on the tracking button? It should cycle from off to on and the next
one should say Tracking with Headings; that is what you want. It will give
spoken directions plus say street names.

Re: Navigon does not show turn by turn list

2016-07-27 Thread Jeff Samco
I noticed this when the update first came out this spring. I reported
it to the developer and we had a few exchanges and they verified that
feature was broken. They said it should be fixed in the next update.
A month ago I checked to see if an update release date was known.
They gave the usual non-committal answer that they are working on it.

So we'll just have to wait.

Yes, you're right. I noticed this about 3 weeks

acknowledged they could reproduce the problem.
They even directed me to an error reporting page
which I did complete. However, they have not
responded back in any additional way since then.
I'm thinking I might contact them for an update.

Go into settings, then route, and flick right to pedestrian, and if it says

See if that was the trouble.
This also assumes you have the setting under sound to include voice with street

Hi Richard,

I just checked the settings and pedestrian with voice annoucements is
selected. The difference that I observed through VO speaking was after the
address was entered and the first start route was double tapped on to select
the type of route to be used. When in pedestrian mode in the options, there
isn't a button for turn-by-turn directions like seen with the car mode. I was
just wondering if I am just discovering this now or is it a bug that I never
knew about. Thanks for your response.

Re: getting turn-by-turn walking directions with Apple Maps

2013-11-04 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Mark and all,

You're right - with the screen unlocked, VoiceOver spoke most turns when I was
walking a route. It also recalculated when I went a different way, which was
cool. Since Navigon works with the screen locked, I guess I thought they all
did. At any rate, thanks very much for your help.

Anna

The only GPS application that continues to give turn-by-turn navigation, in

I did install Google Maps on my phone a while ago but found that I prefer A
T T Navigator and the native iOS GPS solutions. My biggest issue with
Google Maps is that there is no Repeat button. So, unless you are
sighted, there is no way to either confirm or have the TTS repeat its last
 instruction.

Despite countless request for this feature, as far as I know, Google has not
 addressed this issue.

As a side note, about 3 months ago I created a route on both my iPhone 4 S
and my Android phone both using Google Maps. I wanted to see if there was
any significant difference in the app's performance.

So, I started out on my route with Android in one pocket and iOS in the
other. They were virtually identical. As I traveled, it felt as though I
were hearing the instructions in stereo from two twins sisters. It was a
 lot of fun.

 Hello,

I tried twice today to get turn-by-turn walking directions using Apple
Maps, but while the app listed good directions and a travel time that
indicated they were walking directions, I wasn't told when to make
turns. I opened Settings/Maps and chose Walking Directions. Then I
opened Maps, chose Directions, and entered start and end locations.
Then I chose Route. I confirmed that Voice Directions was set to
normal volume. Is there anything else you need to do to get this to
work? I had the screen locked while walking, but I thought this was
supposed to work even when the screen is locked. I'm using an iPhone 5S
 with iOS 7.0.3.

 Thanks,
 Anna

You can't get the Google Maps built-in voice to repeat, but if you touch the
top left corner of it's screen you can have VO repeat it for you as well as
monitor the distance to it.

Re: goolge maps with turn by turn on the iPhone 4 how to get the spoken turn by turn directions to work

2013-07-02 Thread Casey

Hello Christopher thanks for your reply to my message.
Now Hear is what I do I first open my Google app and hit the button for
the voice to I can then say navigate to and then the address or name of
the place I would like to go to.

Now then it will open Google maps app for me.
Then do I then select the route I want to take and then choose driving
cause I will be in a car?
Then after I have done that do I turn voice over off and then double tap
the bottom right corner of my screen and then the turn by turn
directions will start speaking to me.

Are you able to send me step by step instructions on how to do this?
So that I can try this on my own and see how well it works for me?
Or can you do A podcast on it showing me how to start with opening the
app and then entering all of your information for your route and then
getting the speaking turn by turn directions up and working.

Thanks again for your reply and I will watch for your response on this.

Re: goolge maps with turn by turn on the iPhone 4 how to get the spoken turn by turn directions to work

2013-07-02 Thread Casey

Hello Raul could you do recording on using the app?
I know you can speak to it and say where you would like to go.
Now once you have done that.
And you can select form driving to transit or walking say you pick driving.
Now then do you select the rout that you would like to take and then tap
the spot on the screen that just says button near the bottom?
Or how exactly do you know that you have gotten the right spot on the
screen to hear the spoken turn by turn directions?

that is where I am lost.
Any and all assistance is welcome.
Thank you and have a nice day.

Re: turn by turn

2013-05-13 Thread erik burggraaf
Google maps isn't difficult but the map is just abominable around here and it's
walking directions are dangerous. I used it a couple of times to try and get
to clients, once in port colbourne where it walked me a sort of figure 8 around
the block where the bus dropped off, then gave me 5 directions at once and told
me I'd arrived at my destination. Once in Bradfort where it ignored the
lighted intersection not 50 paces behind me and tried to tell me to thump right
across the main highway extension through the town. No crosswalk, no nothing.
So, google maps is not my friend.

Navigon did alright on my ITouch 4th gen though. I had it fired up with an old
xgps cradle and it did alright.

It's 40 bucks for the canadian version, but maybe if we're lucky the seeing eye
app will come out before science figures out how to genetically grow all of us
new eyes and we'll have a fully functioning gps for more than twice the price.

Have fun,

Erik Burggraaf

Which receiver are you testing and why do you think there is an advantage in

Re: turn by turn

2013-05-13 Thread erik burggraaf
Hi Sieghard.

I'm testing the Duel Electronics XGPS 150A. Ebony consulting is a reseller for
this unit.

IPod touch and Ipad don't have a GPS receiver built in and they require a unit
like this external to do gps navigation.

I don't have an IPhone to test on, but I'm a bit old school. Back when I was
using IPaq windows mobile phones, the receivers were good most of the time, but
my IBlue 737 was great all the time, It was consistently accurate to 3 metres
even in overcast or urban canyon.

I'm travelling every day for work, often in unfamiliar areas. So, I loved the
accuracy. I also appreciated the extended battery life. The duel and the
IBlue both have 30 hour usage batteries which makes them a bit chunky, but goes
a long way to extend the battery life of the phone. I need that phone to be a
phone because I could be stuck in extreme weather, held up in traffic, lost,
late, hit by a car… I have to be able to make emergency calls and stay in
touch with clients. The more I could get out of a charge, the better. That's
especially true now that I check email, listen to radio, skype people, handle
bookings and support calls all on the road from my phone.

I'm using a google nexus 4 right now and it supports the XGPS. So, I'm
eventually going to get my hands on Nearby Explorer and compare the accuracy of
the XGPS and the internal on the nexus 4. Even if the accuracy is the same
though, and even considering that I've been getting three days out of each
charge, I think I'll probably stick with an external gps receiver for the
extremely high end uses I plan to put it too.

You know, the cost is pretty steep, and there aren't that many blind people who
do the senseless amount of travel I do. So, for a lot of users the external
might not be worth it. It might be true that for you, the accuracy and uptime
of the phone gps is up to your needs and it wouldn't really be a benefit to you
to sink money into an external. For me though, it just makes sense.

Hope this helps,

Erik Burggraaf

Thank you, Christopher, for your summary. Do these apps announce
turns well before one approaches them? I expect the answer is yes. I
know this function is not available with the maps in iOS 5. How well
does the turn by turn feature work with the maps in iOS 6?

think there's another app you can run in conjunction that will announce
those cross streets for you. I like Google Maps at the moment, but
they're all free, you so you can try each of them out to see which one

Remember, the advantage of Navigon over other apps is that the maps reside on

I checked, and using maps with turn by turn directions consumed 1.2

All other apps were closed.
