will be sending back my logitech keyboard

2019-06-18 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Hi to all. I just tried out my new wireless/ bluetooth keyboard
and it doesn't work at all. I turned on the switch and I plugged in
my USB dongle. I got nothing at all. I then unplugged my dongle and
tried to pair it to my iPhone via bluetooth, and nothing again. I
bought this keyboard to help me with typing on my iPhone. I'm going
to talk to apple because I think my phone is broken. I went into
settings and tried to get my phone to where I don't have to keep
typing in my passcode everytime my phone locks itself and even though
I typed in my passcode and changed the setting to off, it didn't take.
If it weren't for the fact that I need a phone to make and receive
calls, I'd sell it for whatever money I could get. The only good
thing about my phone is the quality of phone calls. I like that very
much.

2019-06-18 Thread Richard Turner

i did not read which logitech keyboard you have.
The ones I have used have the ability to pair with either iOS or Android, but
there are two different buttons for pairing with each.
On mine, the two buttons are long and narrow, going from left to right, and the
farthest right one is for iOS.
You have to hold it in for a few seconds before it shows up in your bluetooth;
when it does, you double tap on its name in the bluetooth settings, and it just
pairs.
Did you go through all that?

RE: will be sending back my logitech keyboard

2019-06-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Since Joshua said his Logitech has a USB dongle I assume it might be the K780
which I also have, in fact, I have it paired to my laptop and my iPhone via
Bluetooth and I am currently typing this email on it.
I highly doubt there is anything wrong with either his iPhone or the keyboard
and that it is at this point user error, sorry Joshua, but if you could look up
the model and post a message here with that information some of us could
probably help you more. I believe you said you bought the keyboard from Amazon
which means you would have received an order confirmation email and the exact
model number would definitely be in that email.
The K780 is a fantastic keyboard, I personally don’t use the USB dongle since
my laptop has Bluetooth and I find the connection works better than with the
USB Dongle.
I also described before how to pair this keyboard, the only thing I would add
to Richard “it just pairs” statement is that once it shows up in your list of
Bluetooth devices and you double tap on it you have to enter a pairing code, I
think it is 6 digits, on the keyboard. If it is the K780 then it has a numeric
pad and that makes it very easy to enter the code which you can read on your
iPhone with Voiceover.
I mean no offense, but I see a bit of a similarity here with when you first
received your iPhone and you were so frustrated by the fact you couldn’t enter
the passcode that you wanted to send it back a day or two later. Now you can’t
pair your keyboard right away maybe assuming it should magically pair without
following the correct procedure and it’s a bit the same thing, all I can say is
just slow down, take a deep breath and then provide the model and ask for help
if you can’t figure it out from information that is available online. I think
when I once tried the USB dongle I had to go through the pairing process as
well so it’s not like Logitech wireless USB keyboards which are prepared with
the dongle you get and which simply work after you plug the dongle into a
computer. I don’t want to boast or sound superior, but I have been using iOS
devices for 10 years and I almost could guaranty that there is nothing wrong
with the product and that those who know the steps including myself could pair
this to your phone in less than 30 seconds.
As for not having to enter a passcode, do you want to turn off the passcode
permanently or do you just want to set it so you only have to enter it if, for
example, you haven’t unlocked your phone for more than a certain time? I am
actually not sure if this can be done. I do see an option under Settings >
Touch Id and Passcode (I have an iPhone 8 so if you have an XR this would most
likely be called Face Id and Passcode) that says “Require Passcode” and it says
“Immediately”. If I tap on this the only option given is “Immediately”, so not
sure about the purpose of this. I do, however, have credit cards added to my
phone so I can use it to make Apple Pay payments in stores and I assume it is
possible that “Immediately” is the only option because of this.
In any case, I can’t remember if you have an iPhone 8 which has Touch Id or an
XR or XS which has Face Id, but either way if you could get help to set up
either method correctly you can easily and quickly unlock your iPhone without
having to enter your passcode at least most of the time. The only time you
would have to enter a passcode is if you reboot/turn off your phone, if you
haven’t used it for whatever length of time it is where a passcode is required
or if you are unsuccessful in unlocking with Touch Id or Face Id after several
attempts.
Of course if security is not a concern you could simply disable the passcode
requirement and then you simply double tap where it says “Press Home to Unlock”.

Best regards,
Sieghard

I should also mention that if you send back your Logitech keyboard and buy a
different Bluetooth keyboard you still have to pair it just the same, all
Bluetooth keyboards need to be first put in pairing mode, then you have to
double tap on them in the list of Bluetooth devices on your phone and then
enter the pairing code.
Some Bluetooth keyboards have a little recessed button you have to press to put
it in pairing mode, some maybe have a power button which you have to push and
hold for 3 or 5 seconds before it goes into pairing mode or, as the Logitech
K780, you have to press and hold one of the device selection keys, F1, F2 or
F3 for about 5 seconds.
The nice thing about the K780 and I think just about all other Bluetooth
keyboards is that it has a physical on/off slider switch (on the K780 it’s on
the right side) which makes it easy to know whether they keyboard is on or off
and if you plan to bring it with you in a backpack it’s virtually impossible
for the keyboard to turn itself on. My first Apple Wireless keyboard had a push
button on the side and it would constantly get pushed in the backpack and I
basically had to unscrew the battery compartment and reverse one battery if I
didn’t want that to happen.

RE: will be sending back my Logitech keyboard

2019-06-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
What do you mean by "big and heavy compared to the 780"? I assume you meant to
say the K780 is big and heavy compared to the K480? If so then yes, it is heavy
because it has the slot in the back where you can put an iPad vertically on
just a slight back-leaning angle and the keyboard is weighted to prevent it
from tipping over if you do stick an iPad into it. As for big that is personal
opinion, for a keyboard with full-size keys and a full numeric pad it is
actually amazingly compact and much smaller than a regular full desktop
keyboard. Anybody who wants a really nice keyboard to type on and who wants to
use it for a PC as well as an iOS device should get the K780.

Sieghard

RE: will be sending back my Logitech keyboard

2019-06-19 Thread janet gross
HI,
I had the k780, but the keys were way to large for my fingers, so I took it
back to the store. I ended up buying the k480. The only thing I did like
about the k780, it had a numeric keypad. Although, if I decide I want a
numeric keypad with my k480, I can buy a Bluetooth numeric keypad. If you have
large fingers, the k780 might work better for you though.

You should consider the Logitech K480. It is easy to pair. Big and heavy
compared to the 780. Has no dongle. Also has no numeric keypad if you want one
of those. But if you don't need a numeric keypad it is only about $22 and can
be used on 3 devices. I use mine with the iPhone, iPad Pro, and Apple TV.

Subject: will be sending back my logitech keyboard

Hi to all. I just tried out my new wireless/ bluetooth keyboard and it
doesn't work at all. I turned on the switch and I plugged in my USB dongle. I
got nothing at all. I then unplugged my dongle and tried to pair it to my
iPhone via bluetooth, and nothing again. I bought this keyboard to help me
with typing on my iPhone. I'm going to talk to apple because I think my phone
is broken. I went into settings and tried to get my phone to where I don't
have to keep typing in my passcode everytime my phone locks itself and even
though I typed in my passcode and changed the setting to off, it didn't take.
If it weren't for the fact that I need a phone to make and receive calls, I'd
sell it for whatever money I could get. The only good thing about my phone is
the quality of phone calls. I like that very much.

Re: will be sending back my Logitech keyboard

2019-06-20 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Its another logitech. I think its a 600 something. What I heard
about it, I liked the description that I was told about it. Any kind
of bluetooth wireless keyboard I'm not going to get at the moment
anyway. My phone isn't working that well. I'm just going to use my
phone to make and receive calls. My phone can't connect to our
wireless network at the moment for some reason even though I know what
our password should be. If it wasn't for an important phone call I
get each month, I probably wouldn't have gotten an iPhone in the first
place after my flip phone died. I would have gotten another flip
phone. Although it is getting harder and harder to get those kinds of
phones. I'm going to get my plan downgraded to the least amount of
data I can which is 500 megs. As long as I can make and receive calls
and send and receive text messages, I'm good.

RE: will be sending back my Logitech keyboard

2019-06-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you are 100% or maybe I should say 200% certain you enter the WiFi password
correctly including upper and lower case characters there is no reason why you
r iPhone should not connect. You could reboot the router which often solves any
issues like that, but while I know this has been a bit of a tough transition, I
assume the iPhone which I think you said is brand-new, probably works perfectly
and your main problem is that you are still climbing this somewhat steep
learning curve which is preventing you to get the most out of your new iPhone.
As for the keyboard, the only Logitech model I could find with 600 in the model
number is the K600 TV keyboard and it is specifically designed to be used
together with smart TV's.
It has a touchpad and what is called a D-Pad, on Logitech's website it says
"Everything you need to navigate your Smart TV or PC connected to the TV.
Search, select, and control your content with the familiar typing experience,
fluid gestures of the touchpad, or the point-by-point precision of the D-Pad."
If that is indeed the model you had in mind I'd seriously reconsider, I doubt
the touchpad and whatever this D-Pad is are useable for a blind person, the
pairing process is identical to any other Logitech keyboard, i.e. press and
hold one of the easy switch keys, wait until it shows up in your list of
Bluetooth devices on the phone, tap it and enter the pairing code on the
keyboard. On this keyboard you afterwards also need to tell the keyboard that
you use iOS otherwise some of the keys won't work and it's all around not meant
to be a phone keyboard. It's still a bit over 14 inches wide and 4.6 inches
deep and weights a pound, yes, lighter than the K780, but if you want a smaller
Bluetooth keyboard without numeric pad then the K480 which many others
recommended would be much better and less expensive.

Re: will be sending back my Logitech keyboard

2019-06-20 Thread Evan Reese
What I would ask is, is he absolutely sure that he isn't on his wi-fi
network already.
That may sound like a strange question, but I had a frustrating experience
with my iPad Mini a few days ago. I installed an OS update and after that,
it told me that I needed to enter my wi-fi password. Apparently it forgot
it. So I entered it and my iPad Mini told me that it was incorrect. So I
entered it again, several more times in fact and each time it told me that
it was incorrect.
I was really sure that, even if I had made a typo or two, I had definitely
entered the correct password during one of my attempts, so I held down the
Home button and Siri came up. I was on the wi-fi network already.

Anybody else had this experience by the way?
Evan

If you are 100% or maybe I should say 200% certain you enter the WiFi
password correctly including upper and lower case characters there is no
reason why you r iPhone should not connect. You could reboot the router
which often solves any issues like that, but while I know this has been a
bit of a tough transition, I assume the iPhone which I think you said is
brand-new, probably works perfectly and your main problem is that you are
still climbing this somewhat steep learning curve which is preventing you to
get the most out of your new iPhone.
As for the keyboard, the only Logitech model I could find with 600 in the
model number is the K600 TV keyboard and it is specifically designed to be
used together with smart TV's.
It has a touchpad and what is called a D-Pad, on Logitech's website it says
"Everything you need to navigate your Smart TV or PC connected to the TV.
Search, select, and control your content with the familiar typing
experience, fluid gestures of the touchpad, or the point-by-point precision
of the D-Pad."
If that is indeed the model you had in mind I'd seriously reconsider, I
doubt the touchpad and whatever this D-Pad is are useable for a blind
person, the pairing process is identical to any other Logitech keyboard,
i.e. press and hold one of the easy switch keys, wait until it shows up in
your list of Bluetooth devices on the phone, tap it and enter the pairing
code on the keyboard. On this keyboard you afterwards also need to tell the
keyboard that you use iOS otherwise some of the keys won't work and it's all
around not meant to be a phone keyboard. It's still a bit over 14 inches
wide and 4.6 inches deep and weights a pound, yes, lighter than the K780,
but if you want a smaller Bluetooth keyboard without numeric pad then the
K480 which many others recommended would be much better and less expensive.

I liked the description that I was told about it. Any kind of bluetooth
wireless keyboard I'm not going to get at the moment anyway. My phone isn't
working that well. I'm just going to use my phone to make and receive
calls. My phone can't connect to our wireless network at the moment for
some reason even though I know what our password should be. If it wasn't
for an important phone call I get each month, I probably wouldn't have
gotten an iPhone in the first place after my flip phone died. I would have
gotten another flip phone. Although it is getting harder and harder to get
those kinds of phones. I'm going to get my plan downgraded to the least
amount of data I can which is 500 megs. As long as I can make and receive
calls and send and receive text messages, I'm good.

Subject: will be sending back my logitech keyboard

Hi to all. I just tried out my new wireless/ bluetooth keyboard and
it doesn't work at all. I turned on the switch and I plugged in my USB
dongle.
I got nothing at all. I then unplugged my dongle and tried to pair
it to my iPhone via bluetooth, and nothing again. I bought this
keyboard to help me with typing on my iPhone. I'm going to talk to
apple because I think my phone is broken. I went into settings and
tried to get my phone to where I don't have to keep typing in my
passcode everytime my phone locks itself and even though I typed in my
passcode and changed the setting to off, it didn't take.
If it weren't for the fact that I need a phone to make and receive
calls, I'd sell it for whatever money I could get. The only good
thing about my phone is the quality of phone calls. I like that very
much.

Are you sure it wanted your WiFi password and not your Apple Id password?
It's easy enough to see if you are connected to WiFi, just touch the middle of
the status bar where the time is displayed and flick left once.

What I would ask is, is he absolutely sure that he isn't on his wi-fi network

That may sound like a strange question, but I had a frustrating experience with
my iPad Mini a few days ago. I installed an OS update and after that, it told
me that I needed to enter my wi-fi password. Apparently it forgot it. So I
entered it and my iPad Mini told me that it was incorrect. So I entered it
again, several more times in fact and each time it told me that it was
incorrect.
I was really sure that, even if I had made a typo or two, I had definitely
entered the correct password during one of my attempts, so I held down the Home

Anybody else had this experience by the way?

Bluetooth keyboard without numeric pad then the
K480 which many others recommended would be much better and less expensive.

On the Phones for the Blind list, Judy Jones posted about a new Android
phone coming out in July that sounds really blind friendly with Android Pie.
It costs $649, which, for what all her post described, I can understand why.
I am satisfied with my iPhone, it does what and when I need, but it's a big
world, and there are some that would like the phone. Also, it has a slider
qwerty keyboard, so that one wouldn't have to press 2 three times for c and
so forth.

It is a new one, and I don't remember the name. I am not sure where it is
manufactured. It was not a familiar Android type that I have heard of. I am
sure that more about it will be forth coming. I'll ask over there the name of
it and then post to you personally.

Best regards,

Carolyn

On the Phones for the Blind list, Judy Jones posted about a new Android
phone coming out in July that sounds really blind friendly with Android Pie.
It costs $649, which, for what all her post described, I can understand why.
I am satisfied with my iPhone, it does what and when I need, but it's a big
world, and there are some that would like the phone. Also, it has a slider
qwerty keyboard, so that one wouldn't have to press 2 three times for c and
so forth.

Best regards,

Carolyn

Its another logitech. I think its a 600 something. What I heard about it,
I liked the description that I was told about it.
