YES ! Thanks so much for all of your help I got it to work today from my "Work" PC to my "Home" PC The help from both of you was must instructfull and understanding - Of my newbieness Thanks So much !!! I have the "native viewer" set to port 443 & the webinterface via port 80 Per your suggestions >You might give the following a try:set your home vncserver to respond to port 443 >(this is the standard https port). The firewall (if it does pakect checking on >protocols, cannot/will not be able to deny this because https is encrypted, hence cannot be filtered (if your workstation is not denied https). You would then use the generic viewer to connect to YOUR.IP.AT.HOME::443 Cheers, Dietmar You could change your port number to less than 5900, eg port 80 as a lot of people had requested it. Seak, Teng-Fong Thanks SO Much !! You Guys Rock !! ONE last question - When I put the router back in ( a diffrent one than the Netgear RP614 - which cant port foward ) will I still have to port forward port 443 and or 80 to the computer with VNC on it as I will have 2 PC's but only one will have the VNC Server ?? NO longer lost - I've found my way "Home" !! Thanks Again, Opie - Do you Yahoo!? Friends. Fun. Try the all-new Yahoo! RE: Read FAQ did a lot of testing but still can not connect
"native viewer" is opposite to Java viewer. For ex, vncviewer.exe is the native viewer for Windows platforms, while vncviewer is that for Unix. Besides that Java viewer needs JVM to run, it also needs two ports (usually 5800 & 5900): one to get this viewer through HTTP and one for VNC's proper usage. As to "net" command: in command prompt window, you type in net stop winvnc and net start winvnc to stop and start VNC server service. You could put them in two batch files so that you just need to double click to execute the commands. For more information, please read the FAQ and manual in the website. VNC doc is actually quite small in volume. > -Message d'origine- > De : Opie [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Envoyi : mercredi 2 juin 2004 03:28 > @ : [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Objet : Re: Read FAQ did a lot of testing but still can not connect > > OK > > What is a native viewer > > >>> Note also that you have to use native viewer. > > And > > >>> You're using VNC4 server. Re: Read FAQ did a lot of testing but still can not connect
Open Mouth insert foot. Ok I got to work Monday and tried to access my home PC I have the correct IP address and I had the wife check it before and after I tried to connect Shes at home, but not that good a computers -- Still can not connect. I have removed the router and I am just connecting straight from the cable modem, I asked Road Runner if they block ports 5900 & 5800 - No they do not. Again It seems to work internally - Loopback Connection - I tried telnet to port 5900 at home and connect got the RFB 003.003. At work I can not connect. Also tried the WEB Java - At home I can connect - At work I can Not. If my work blocks VNC I should be able to connect via Web ?? - At work they do use VNC also.So I would assume they dont block it. Also would it matter if at work I am behind a firewall and at a workstation on a large NAT internall network ?? I am going to try to have my dad try it at his house to connect to my home PC next but can get him till late tonight. And hes not good with PCs also. Im no expert but not really a total newbieBUT what am I missing. I thought that the router was my problem but as it seems it was not. I have the VNC up and running have the correct IP address, open viewer and type in address what am I doing wrong - is there some setting that I missed at home that is not working ?? what more can you setup at the server. All I saw was the password.thats it ?? What more info can I provided To help anyone help me fix my connection problems. Lost again.. Opie - Do you Yahoo!? Friends. Fun. Try the all-new Yahoo! Ok, To get started I am running 98SE / RR Cable Access / Netgear Router I opened port 5900 - Thru the router and tested with http://www.gotomyvnc.com/ Result - xx.xx.xxx.xxx is accepting connections on Display 0 (TCP port 5900). But when I try to connect with the router IP it comes failed to connect . I checked my IP thru http://www.whatismyipaddress.com/ and it is the same as the routers status properties.
