Re: GPS Mac

2002-03-06 Thread Shay Telfer

Anyone out there using a GPS unit with a Mac?

I'm going to be doing a project at the end of the year where I need
to go out in the field and record series of locations then return to
base and download these points and plot them on a map.

Any pointers appreciated.

I've yet to hook mine up, I'll let you know how it goes.

Laserwriter 16/600 Cartridge

2002-03-06 Thread Tony Wilson
Lat year I left 2 empty toner cartridges with the Osborne Park Apple agent
for recycling and now have a need for an empty one.
The cartridge is an equivalent Canon EP-E and suits Laserwriter Pro 600, 630
or 16/600PS
I believe the HP equivalent is C92298A
Should any reader have an empty cartridge in their business or at home I
would be most grateful to acquire at agreeable terms
Faithfully yours

Re: rename utility? - we have a winner

2002-03-06 Thread Greg Hosking
Thanks for all the suggestions on the rename utility, this is my belated
solution report...

there's no simply utility to do the trick... filebuddy Utility dog are
somewhat overqualified but work a treat. I especially like Utility dog, it
has a great interface does a myriad of operations with minimum fuss. Very
intuitive. The file browser ability to save renaming routines saves a lot
of unnecessary mousing around.

TELSTRA BILLING ACCESS Now available to Mac

2002-03-06 Thread Bob Howells
Hello WAMUG,

Access is available to telstra Billing via Logon Name and Password

I make it work with Internet Explorer, (NOT Netscape)
Using OS8.6 on a 7300/200 and Explorer Mac 5.1

SO, IF you are a Telstra customer you can get access.
GO TO http://telstra.com and look on the front page for

WHY JOIN

follow your nose and fill in the various boxes.

That will get you a Telstra.com login which includes a Telstra Webmail address
but you need more to get to Billing.

For Billing and Call Preview you will also need a registration
certificate. You can try to get that onsite OR call 1800 266 000, be
ready with your account numbers etc.

Those with a previous DIGITAL CERTIFICATE would do best phoning 1800 266
000 as
the previous Digital Certificate needs to be cleared.

Oh, do have FUN

Bob

who has taken nearly 4 weeks to get his sorted out due to the digital
certificate
and telstra FXXX ups.

Why indeed? Even the banks (those most-conservative of institutions)
have managed to have online access to systems with security levels
that they're comfortable with by using Internet standards and without
resorting to certificates. You'd think with a profit of $2bn
announced today that Telstra could manage something similar.

I'm not a Telstra customer any more, and have had access to online
billing information from my provider for a while now.

Re: Battery for Lombard

2002-03-06 Thread Bill and Denise
I have found Batteries Plus at 43 Hutton St Osborne Park to be fantastic.
They replaced a 540C battery for $209 - new clone with better specs than
original. They are also ordering a new clone for a 5300 for a similar
price. For less they will rebuild a battery. The 540 battery was in stock
but the wait time on the other is 8 weeks. I'm not sure how long rebuilds
take.

Ring around and compare. There is a wide variation in prices.

Bill

Well it looks like my Lombard battery is dead (doesn't charge in mine
or another machine and it doesn't appear to be power manager related.)

 a) Can these batteries be rejuvenated (and is it worth it)
 b) Where should I source a replacement?

 Cheers, Antony.

I have problem which I hope someone can help me with.

I was happily using a Ti Powerbook with OSX but my version of Eudora
was OS 9 v 5.1. Everything was fine.

Today after a bit of a tidy up, I click Eudora in the dock and it
opens up a new copy with no mail, address book, mailboxes etc

After a bit of wailing and gnashing, I started to nose around and
found that if I went to

 OSX
 Apple menu
 Recent Items
 Eudora Settings

It all worked as normal but a bit slower to find things.

If I choose Eudora as an application I get the blank new programme.

Obviously I've moved something to the wrong place but what and where.

 Any help gratefully received.

 Thanks

Hello Bryn,

There is a Beta version of Eudora for OSX at the Eudora site.
It seems to work fine with OSX 10.1

Re: WaveLAN PCMCIA --- PCI Adaptor

2002-03-06 Thread Shay Telfer

I'd ideally like to get a PCMCIA - PCI adaptor so I can use a spare
WaveLAN card and make a desktop Mac a base station but I am aware
(as all the sites say) that the adaptors do not work with the Apple
driver.

Now is this likely to change? Is it munted software or hardware?

Just can't justify buying an Airport base station or PCI card version...

Then again I could make a PC in to a base station (shudder...)

Re: GPS Mac

2002-03-06 Thread Ray Forma
This is how I have been generating the maps for my book The Cape to Cape Track
Guidebook.

1 Collect the data in the GPS; a Magellan 310. Stores a max of 100 coordinates.

2 On return to base review the data in the GPS and manually enter the
coordinates into VectorWorks as loci. VectorWorks is a relatively easy-to-use
and powerful CAD/Architecture/Landscape program.

3 Use a suitable drawing tool in VectorWorks to join the dots.

I have a cable, but cant find the software to download the data to my B/W G3.
If anyone knows of some I would love to know details.
