Re: For sale : server cabinet

2002-10-27 Thread Phillip Arena
Well Matthew, the shelves are 20" wide (26" is the overall cabinet
width), so I presume it's standard. From memory, there are 3
adjustable shelves. The back door also (as expected is perforated for
maximum air flow.

Some of the features include; removable side panels etc.
Base, low-profile casters, leveling feet and retractable anti-tip

Front door with steel vent panel and perforated mesh optimal air
flow. Doors are field reversible left or right hinge.

I am reassembling the unit and will post further details (number of
shelves etc) if anyone is interested. As the unit is no longer needed
and taking up valuable space I will consider any offer for it. It's
in very nice condition (have you ever tried to dent a tank?)

Dang It's not a proper 19" rack then I take it...

OSX Sleep Problems

2002-10-27 Thread Neil Houghton
Hi all,

I'm still having problems with putting my iMac to bed! As I noted a few
weeks back:

The iMac will not sleep reliably. If I put it to sleep it immediately
re-awakens. If left it will put itself to sleep but keeps re-awakening
itself. Very occasionally it seems to work OK and stay asleep but despite
trying every combination of hardware (ie disconnecting the network and
various USB printer, scanner, zip drive) I cannot see any pattern. Also
sometimes it would re-awaken the powerbook over the network (I'm assuming
this since I never see a problem with the powerbook when the iMac is powered
down).
Shay asked:
> Do you have it set to 'Wake on LAN' in the Energy Saver preferences?
No - in fact, all these option boxes are left unchecked.

I now have determined a few factors which might? indicate the source of the
problem to the more knowledgeable out there:

There is no problem if I boot up in OS9 only in OSX.

I recently upgraded from 10.1.2 to 10.1.5 and for a few blissful days the
problem disappeared, which reassured me that the problem was probably not
hardware-based or associated with a particular USB or network configuration
- then the problem re-appeared. I re-ran the upgrade installer and again the
problem disappeared (it is easy for me to check, I just choose sleep from
the Apple menu and either the iMac goes obediently to sleep :) or it starts
to go to sleep and just after the final click (which normally gives the
start of totally quiet sleep) it re-awakens itself :(

I decided to try and check for this problem immediately after running any
software and immediately found that starting the classic environment
initiated the problem (though I don't know if there are any other
alternative triggers) and that the problem was there whether or not classic
was running when I put the computer to sleep.

I also found that re-starting the computer clears the problem (though
re-starting the computer so you can put it to sleep sort off defeats the
purpose!!) So the problem seems to be with something which gets changed or
set when classic is started up and reset when the computer is re-started.

So, to summarise

1) Re-start the computer, all OK, sleeps normally.
2) Start classic, problem appears - put computer to sleep and it
immediately re-awakens.
3) Force classic to quit - problem remains
4) Re-start the computer, all OK, sleeps normally.

Any suggestions as to what this pattern might suggest. 800Hz G4 15" iMac,
OSX 10.1.5 (also a problem with 10.1.2) & OS 9.2.2

TIA

Neil

Re: Isync

2002-10-27 Thread Rob Findlay
You may well have already been here but this is the most I could find on
Apple site about it. There is a link here to a discussion forum where you
are likely to encounter people trying to do the same thing.
http://www.info.apple.com/usen/isync/
It's on my list of things to try soon:)

Actually as some of you are probably aware you can set up your own ical
server with an internet visible computer running Linux & Apache & save
yourself the .Mac membership. There is a pretty good description of how to
do it here.
http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2002/09/20/ical_webdav.html

We already have a Mactherapy calendar running so I will probably try the
isync thing soon...

Cheers
Rob

Isync

2002-10-27 Thread Malcolm McCallum
Hi all, has anyone got Isync working between two networked Macs? I am
aware you have to have .Mac membership and that you have to have your
.Mac Member name and password in 'System Preferences>Internet'. I
thought my problem was that I had not registered for Isync and Ical as
it suggests you do in 'Ical>register Ical' and the same for Isync. I
tried that and got dumped into a product register which was no help at
all. I then contacted the helpful people at Apple Mt Hawthorn and
they suggested the apple help line which I tried :-( I was told, very
curtly, that they did not need registering. When I tried to politely
point out what it said in the programme I was given the answer "It
does not need registering".

I am obviously missing something and would be grateful for any help.
TIA
