Re: RAM for iMac

2003-04-02 Thread Jon Davison
Hi

I am looking for some additional RAM for a 450Mhz iMac. (OS RoM 4.6-1,
running 9.2). At present it has a DIMMO/J13 64Mb card. I could do with 128
or 256Mb? does anyone have RAM for a machine like this they wish to part
with and how much?

Please reply off line, or Call me on 0403 235938 anytime.

Thanks
Jon

I've just written something that does this. It is similar to QuickConference
(CE software), but does not require a server. It works fine, but won't be
finished for a couple of weeks (I need to add preferences, and a couple of
things).

It shouldn't interfere with anything else that you are running. It does not
use extensions. The "chatting" is done via UDP.

> Something that has a sound alert for messages would be tops!

This program can play a sound, and bring itself to the front when it
receives a message.

If you can wait, and are interested in playing around with it, let me know
off list. If not, then I can recommend QuickConference for local private
networks. We've used it at our office for a couple of years. You just type
your message and hit the enter key.

WACOM Mac ADB tablet to give away

2003-04-02 Thread Robert Loss
I have a Small Mac ADB WACOM tablet (purchased circa 1995 - hardly
ever used) to give away to a worthy cause. If you think you have a
good use for such a thing send me your sob stories and I'll award it
to whoever I think is going to make some use of it.

Cheers

G3 Powerbook battery voltages - replacing or rebuilding batteries

2003-04-02 Thread Greg Colgan
Hi there Muggers,
I've got a couple of dead Lithium Ion G3 Powerbook rechargeable batteries
that either need re-building or replacing. Anyone done this recently with
some feedback to offer on the way to go? I just called Battery World and
they asked me what voltage the batteries are - 9.6, 10.8 or 14.4 volts. I
have no idea.

The model no. on the battery is M4685 if that means anything, and the laptop
is a 233Mhz Wall St (I think), manufactured in 1998. Rated 24V - another
voltage!

Thanks in advance for any helpful feedback.

Re: iPhoto - change filename?

Extensis Portfolio is good, you can catalogue and rename photos with it. Costs
money to buy, but has both a Mac OS 9 and X version.

PowerBook In Iraq

2003-04-02 Thread Kay, Richard
Gruber appears to be a photo journalist ... "Sports Photography" seems to be
where he displays a lot of his work ... most of the pixs on his homepage relate
to the Superbowl ... I suspect that he loaded his PowerBook in the desert pix
on his "Sports Photography" page for conveninece more than anything else.

OK is it just me or is anybody else worried about the fact this is a
"sports photography" site bringing us these pages

I guess this following one of their regular contributors who's acting

Re: Old Macs and New Sony Monitors

2003-04-02 Thread Antony N. Lord

Does anybody know whether Sony FD Trinitron Monitors (in particular the
G420 and/or the G520) can be made to work with a PM 7300?

Yes I believe you can. You can use just about ANY standrad PC crt
monitor on a Mac given then right connectors.

You will (probably) need to get a D15 to HD15 adaptor (available from
most Apple Resellers or places like Jaycar.)

To be honest I have had some troubles with the above adaptor and
recommend the one below which I have seen at Altronics :

They are also useful for running your Mac "headless" and fooling the
machine in to the right resolution (useful when using Timbuktu or
similar.)

LAN message/chat recommendation?

2003-04-02 Thread Greg Hosking
Hi Folks, we are a 2 Mac household, a G4 400 (OS 9) and a powerbook 867 (OS
X) separated my 50 metres or so of garden & such, connected via ethernet
(crossover cable)

I'm after a SIMPLE LAN based chat software that will run on OS 9 & OS X, the
simpler the better. (G4 is an audio workstation & I would like the chat to
not interfere with the delicate extensions balance)

Something that has a sound alert for messages would be tops!. Thanks for any
advice

Greg
