airport question

2003-12-01 Thread Ian Bacon

Hi,

I have just purchased a new Apple Airport router. Its range is good
around the house, but I would like external coverage as well. Has
anyone added an antenna to an Apple Airport base station? I am thinking
of a hack install to a non-airport unit. If anyone know how to do this
please point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

FS: Xerox C410 Color Laser Printer

2003-12-01 Thread Mark Heeler

This is a High Quality A3 sized (meaning LARGE) printer with
Postscript 3, 10/100 Ethernet and many other features.
Still being used daily - all works fine but some toners will
be needed soon.

My office needs less and less colour printing (due to email)
and this printer is now just plain overkill for us.

Anyone interested ? A reasonable offer may take it away !
email for any queries...

When last for sale (only about a year ago) they were about
$9k but I won't want anything like that for it !!!

Tax Invoice available !

Request for comments on web page ? (http://www.lotterywest.wa.gov.au/results.cfm)

2003-12-01 Thread Mark Scholmann
Dear WAMUG'ers,

could I request assistance in "testing" a new page on our web site ?...
from a Mac perspective that is !

The page is - http://www.lotterywest.wa.gov.au/results.cfm

We have removed our previous "Lotto Kiosk" page for a simpler text based
version, as the old page had many issues with Netscape and various other
interface problems.

I am looking for comments on anything not working, speed of loading,
general thoughts, etc...

Thanks to many on the list for previous input on a similar request! As Mac
advocates, you will be happy to know that I was finally given approval to
purchase a Mac for our test room. It is an eMac (white monitor -
all-in-one), which will be suitable for all our testing requirements. We
will be testing initially on IE5.2.2, until the "stats" show Safari
increasing in use.
It is no easy thing to get a Mac in a total PC / NT environment for
Government... so, hopefully we will be presenting better in future
revisions of our site. I will be dependent now on this list to indicate
when it is safe to upgrade my browser and OS... as I will need to maintain
the computer separate to our Infrastructure team! Yikes! 8-)

For some reason the most recent archived message that I can access is dated
8 April 2003.

Can someone tell me the current url, please?

I want to see if members prefer wired to wireless keyboards and mice. I have
a G3 PowerBook 400 with 640 meg ram; two usb ports but no usb hub; and want
to avoid adding yet more wires to my messy desk.

Thank you

A victory for Safari

2003-12-01 Thread Severin Crisp
I have not been overly impressed with Safari yet but today it had a
real victory.
In accessing the TISC, site Explorer constantly fell over part way
through a lengthy submission of details. Netscape just would not
work properly on this site but Safari triumphed and I did all that I
had wanted to. The site states that it assumes you are using
Explorer 5.5 (WIN presumably) and that Netscape may produce
unpredictable outcomes, as it did! All three are the lqatest
versions with Panther 10.3.1.
After that triumph I went into my bank accounts with both Westpac and
Bankwest and Safari did everything I asked. Maybe the moment for a
complete switch is at hand?

Re: Keyboard for G3 PowerBook

2003-12-01 Thread Stuart Elvish

Dear Michael,

I at present use a Logitech elite keyboard which comes with OS X
drivers so all the shortcut and volume adjustment keys work really
well. The setup utility also allows you to change the button functions.
Haven't tested the play and pause buttons yet as I haven't played a CD
and they don't seem to work in iTunes (maybe a setup issue related to a
dumb user). It also has an Apple key (two actually which is much better
than the lap top with one).

I got it from Dynacom (9309 5090 and they deliver) but you can get it
from Office Works. There is also another model for OS X with less
features on it (after all some people need a keyboard for only the
keyboard function) but I don't know how much it was worth or what it
actually had on it.

Hope this helps.

Stuart

BBQ Numbers

2003-12-01 Thread Matthew Healey

Hi Everyone

We need to get more numbers for the BBQ. Currently only 4 people have
RSVP'd and as such can't really justify having the BBQ.

IF YOU ARE COMING TO THE BBQ, YOU NEED TO RSVP NOW.

Send me an email telling me you are coming, otherwise we will have to
cancel the whole thing.

Re: Check out the new Apple Store (in Tokyo)

2003-12-01 Thread Brad Helden
By the way, anyone going to Tokyo should definitely go to Akihabara
(Electric Town) for the best buys.

Please note that the Ginza strip is considered the most expensive
shopping district in the world so I'd like to know what the new
shop's prices are like. If anyone wants more info drop me a line as I
lived in Japan for over 12 years until last year.
