Even when the specs of the PC are WAY up there, these are fast machines and indeed cost accordingly, comparable in price to (IMHO) a Mac of 'similar' capabilities, in fact they will share a good deal of components. The rub actually comes once Ive finished assembling a well thought out PC, all I can do for the customer is install bloody XP. They think it is fine/great but I know that it will never realise the potential of the hardware Ive sold them. I feel as though I should sell them a cheaper machine as the result will be almost the same. But where's the kudos in that?;) Linux is just about ruled out for this situation as no self respecting Linux nerd would get anyone else to design and assemble their shiny new PC. So it's XP yet again, sigh. At least theres Mozilla for them... Cheers Paul 'Mac because I prefer it, Windows because they think they have to..'

Interestingly, when I used the RealPlayer browser itself, instead of Safari and Camino, the files were served up properly - and then I was able to access them in Safari and Camino consequently.I guess OS X caches them somehow. I have experienced one session where the delay (stutter if you will) was removed by removing my isp's numbers. There appears to be no consistent fault and no consistent fix with my set-up. ---

I also have found the problem still exits when I visited Version Tracker using Safari. I think Apple may have fixed one particular problem but there appears to be a bigger problem that can effect anyone based on similar reports from Linux Windows users. from the article: http://www.linuxinsider.com/story/But-Theres-No-Software-for-the-Mac-Right-37806.html Those developers, for example, who focused on replacing the player's imagination or intelligence with interactive graphics simply found no market among Mac buyers -- *most of whom are older and/or better educated than the people to whom those products sell.* (my emphasis) Gosh! Have I bought myself some of that? ;-)

Re: Frequent ADSL disconnect
Hi As usual your email was helpful and informative. I'm not exactly sure how frequent it occurs because the router will automatically re-establish a connection its-self and I'm not always at the computer. I'd say it occurs once or twice a week (that I'm aware of). I still maintain sync upon disconnects (it's just the PPP that goes out). I'm not really sure how to access the logs on the router. Thanks Ruben Dark Servant wrote: I'm running a Billion 5100 router with a 256/64 Dodo ADSL plan and I've noticed that every now and then disconnection occurs Hi Ruben, How often? Once a day, once a week, less often? 1 or 2 disconnections a month is normal. Disconnections can occur for the following reason - Telstra doing work at the exchange - Unplanned/planned issues at the ISP - Interference on your specific telephone line - Busted modem/router - Busted ADSL port on the DSLAM at the exchange If the disconnection is more regular, ie every few minutes, then I would look at something local, ie damaged phone cable, no filters on phones, dodgy filters. Most of the time the PPP light just goes out and doesn't come back on till later but this time it was alternating to being on and off every now and then. Again, how often is now and then? Do you lose sync as well, or just PPP connection? If just PPP connection, the logs on your router should tell you why it disconnected. Only real reason for that setting is to save on costs though. I'm assuming while I'm disconnected the router is continually dialling up trying to get me a connection ADSL does not make telephone calls, thus there is no charges for connecting/disconnecting. ADSL works on a different frequency to normal telephone calls. -- Regards Trevor Lee Highway 1 Internet Solutions -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] WAMUG is powered by Stalker CommuniGatePro
