Anyone have a dead G5 Tower Mac they might want to part with?
A few months ago I managed to drop my G5 tower when moving it and damaged the case ... just an aesthetic thing - the mac still runs fine - but kind of getting sick of staring at the sorry looking bent and broken thing on my desk I notice old G5 tower cases sell on eBay for around $200 to $250'ish with shipping to perth so thought I'd see if any one on WAMUG might have a dead G5 tower they might want to part with somewhere around that (or less) [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mark Secker (Ba. Hi... If I understand correctly that effectively leaves all your phones behind two filters, which may affect the impedance characteristics of the line as seen from outside the first filter (ie where your ADSL router presumably sits). Thus why things might work better when you've only got the hardwired filter in place. The central fllter/splitter sits just after the wire comes into the house, especially designed for this according to the very highly priced linesman who set it up. Then, Westnet support people kept nagging, you have got to have filters on the lines..so I don't know!! We thought we were covered! Rosemary Horton [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Rosemary ! As a retired Telstra Tech with 43 years experience I have seen plenty of places where things were not what they should have been . So I had to ask the question ! At this stage with your problem ... one phone unplugged which may be causing problems ... I want to suggest to you that having additional filters after the Hard Wired filter may in itself under some circumstances cause a problem . The one good quality filter is all that is needed . There have been occasions where a filter has been found faulty . And not all filters are necessarily of the best quality . Recently I rearranged my set up so that I now have just the one new hard wired filter with 3 phones on line . Recent speed tests to my ISP show I achieve 1536 KB . In earlier days I was getting only about 1200 KB . Perhaps something else has altered but I am suspicious that it is the new filter that has produced the improved line speed . Hopefully your filter will appear on the approved list at this address : http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/?tag=adslfp_03 I am using the C10 Communications C10100E . The same splitter is being sold at Office works under the name of Jackson . Re: connection woes
I have an even zanier working system! A central splitter filter has the security system on one branch and another line with four phones at various well spread locations in two buildings, each with its own filter. Yet another line has another splitter/filter on it with the ADSL ethernet router on one arm and the filtered side goes to the modem in our G3 iMac for sending faxes. Additionally an Airport Extreme Base station is into the router. Wonder of wonders, it all works fine.
