Re: Email servers etc - I need some ideas

2008-10-22 Thread Steven Knowles
To all who have commented (Steve, Rob, Rob, Matthew) - much
appreciated. Have been considering your comments closely. And Google
certainly sounds like it might be worth a run. I haven't heard anyone
come up with a good reason NOT to use Google yet.

Thanks again all.

Accessibility from anywhere via any device including mobile, cost

Construction cost zero - time very fast for such a network, as is

Apps (Calendars, notes, etc) available online, very hard to beat as

if one feels it is an issue introduce a Corporate wide GPG key for
email very simple to initiate as all mail clients have some form

iinet imap

2008-10-22 Thread Susan Hastings
Hi, I found out accidentally (setting up an account in Outlook whilst here
in China), that iinet have an imap account facility that lets you send as
well as receive in your email application from any isp. I've since set it up
in mail on the Macbook Air. Outlook finds the setting for the account
automatically, which is why it was an accidental discovery from my point of
view.

Given that my .mac (mobile me) imap seems unreliable for sending, this is
very useful.

Cheers, Susan.

The next General Meeting of WAMUG will be held on Tuesday, 4th

Really ! With the red sails ?

I had to wait until married with 3 kids to do that up here in Gero,
but it was more patching one as my daughter Sam tended to lean on
the other craft with "Legend" as she raced around the course. She
would have made a great V8 Supercar driver. Seriously though, I
scored 26% in Leaving Latin so that probably ruled me out of the
priesthood, and the guys who didn't do Latin did Economics, left
school after Junior, became bankers and now are multi-millionaires!

Have a look at http://www.southaustralia.com/EyrePeninsulaNullarbor.aspx

From one who was educated by the Jesuits, put the Latin 'nullus' and

Latin is a bit of a sore point with me! At Grammar school, I was
selected
into the "bright" stream and had to sit through the Latin classes
whilst my
"dull" mates were building a Mirror sailing dinghy in the carpentry
class!

I have to say, I hardly felt privileged by the selection!

Perhaps we now have 'Nullus Arbor', or 'Null' Arbor', or
'Nullarbor';

and then the language could degenerate further to 'N'arbor' or
even ... NAB?

Yes, well, as a NAB shareholder, I must concede that the amount of
trees
that must go into their annual reports and other paperwork
generated could

well qualify them for the alternative expansion of NAB!

Sorry for hijacking your thread Adrian!

Have fun,

Hehe,

Well it's changed from Nullabore to Nullabor - so now it's
consistent across
your site.

However, as John said, I always thought the strictly correct
spelling was
Nullarbor (as in - no trees).

However, Nullabor does also seem to be in common usage.

Google gives:

247,000 hits for Nullarbor

92,300 hits for Nullabor

Take your pick :)

Advertising Web Services

2008-10-22 Thread Lloyd White
I have a website which sells my book. I have been approached by a firm
called Advertising Web Services. Contact phone numbers in USA, France and
Australia.

They appear to be linked to Google Ads. Of course they claim to be able to
increase my "clicks" etc. Of course I would like this but I am naturally
suspicious about paying anyone US$59 a month for anything.

Has anyone one had any experience with these or similar people? Or can
anyone recommend local people who can do this sort of thing? Optimising is
the word I think.

So it wasn't the Dutch who were first here to teach LOTE? Those Romans

On the matter of the Nullabor typo, I believe it is an aboriginal
name and I don't think they were big on Latin.
