Hi Laura

Another one worth looking at might be Picasa (by Google).
Have a look at here:-

You can download it for free.

You can also link it into iPhoto with a plugin as well.

Quite interesting.

Re: iPhoto album alternative

2009-05-24 Thread Susan Hastings
Hi Laura, I know what you mean about trying to create albums in
iphoto, but can't see that Picasa (which I use as a quick and dirty
way of organising and viewing photos after importing them into Adobe
bridge) makes albums, etc. directly.

Snapfish have a range of products and allow you upload your photos, so
it might be worthwhile trying them to see if its better than doing
this in iphoto. You won't need Picasa to access Snapfish, of course.

Hi Bill, I noticed my address book looked scrambled too. I went to
preferences and check 'last name before first name', and it is now in
alphabetical order. So that's a possibility to try. The default was
'first name before last'.

From Mail, I just added your address to my address book by right
clicking on your email address in your email, and clicking 'add to
address book'.

I'm using 10.5.7

What steps were you using?

cheers, Susan.

glance the former looks the most appealing but I'll investigate both.
It's also a comfort to know I am not the only one who has had
problems with creating a book in iPhoto.

My project is a Birthday Book for a son's 50th birthday so, rather

Re: Blank screen

2009-05-24 Thread Neil Houghton
Yes, I'd agree with Susan here - try to narrow down the problem.

If you don't have another screen to try, can you find another computer to
try your screen on.

€ If another screen works on your G5, it points to a problem with your
screen.

€ If another (known working) screen doesn't work on your G5, it points to
a problem with the G5 (though it doesn't necessarily mean your screen is
OK).

€ If your screen works with another computer it points to a problem with
your G5 (probably but not necessarily the graphics card).

€ If your screen doesn't work with another (known working) computer it
points to a problem with your screen (though it doesn't necessarily mean
your G5 is OK).

The other thing to check (assuming its a separate item) is the video cable
between the computer and screen - ie try another cable if you have/can
borrow one or try your cable in another computer/screen combo (if
available).

Every test tells you something (though not necessarily the complete
picture!)

Good luck.

Cheers

Hi
I know this seems so simple as to be stupid, but I had the same
problem the other day and all it was was the brightness control on the
side of the screen had been moved to blank out the screen. How I don't
know, but it happened.

Regards
Peter

Yes, I'd agree with Susan here - try to narrow down the problem.

If you don't have another screen to try, can you find another
computer to

try your screen on.

€ If another screen works on your G5, it points to a problem with
your

screen.

€ If another (known working) screen doesn't work on your G5, it
points to
a problem with the G5 (though it doesn't necessarily mean your
screen is

OK).

€ If your screen works with another computer it points to a
problem with

your G5 (probably but not necessarily the graphics card).

€ If your screen doesn't work with another (known working)
computer it
points to a problem with your screen (though it doesn't necessarily
mean

your G5 is OK).

The other thing to check (assuming its a separate item) is the video
cable

between the computer and screen - ie try another cable if you have/can
borrow one or try your cable in another computer/screen combo (if
available).

Every test tells you something (though not necessarily the complete
picture!)

Good luck.

Cheers

Tom, I'd try booting up with another screen to find out whether its
your G5 or the screen that has the problem. Susan

Re: Blank screen

2009-05-24 Thread Pat
What size Apple monitor? I had a blank screen problem recently with a
20" Apple monitor, and apparently it was caused by the monitor's power
source. Technicians at Macworx described this monitor as being more
'touchy' than other brands. It turned out there was nothing wrong
with my monitor and the power source just needed to be placed 'just
so'. So, if yours is a 20 incher, try positioning the power source
so it is very stable. Observe while you are handling it if the
monitor comes on when the power source is in certain positions.
