Hi Ronni,
Thanks for that - I'll store the info away 'in a safe spot' ready
for when I change to snow leopard - which maybe some weeks away. Some
other software I use has still to be cleared for SL compatibility by
the suppliers.

Hello Clyde,

Searching the Web I found this that could be helpful to you. It
might be worth a try as it is "supposed" to work in Snow Leopard.

I can't verify that it does though.

"CAPT Printer Driver V3.00 for MacOSX"

If you do download it and install in OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard, one
thing you should make sure is to delete the old printer
configuration from the Print & Fax Preferences pane.
Then to check whether the new driver is used open the print queue,
click on the Printer Setup icon and on the General tab you’ll find
the driver version (3.00 in case of the Snow Leopard drivers).

Re: Macintosh software update

2009-09-16 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi Mac,

Has Peter tried downloading and running The Combo 10.4.11 overtop?
Make sure he downloads the correct version for his iMac:

PPC Combo version:

Intel Combo version:

A couple of tips for Peter:

1. Before you install a System Update, ALWAYS repair permissions using
Disk Utility.

Then after the update is installed, repair permissions again.

2. Download & install the "Combo" version of a System Update.

If running the combo version over top & repairing permissions doesn't
fix Software Update,

Peter could try Removing the Cache.db file from the folder:

Cache.db

Using the drag and drop method, the resultant font is always in the

Hi Peter

If you find it stops working, I would recommending do what Ronni suggested
(uninstalling and reinstalling).
Had the network stop for a client using Parallels, and by uninstalling and
reinstalling it worked perfectly.

Hi everyone,

Recently installed Parallels 4.0 and now I cannot get Internet
Explorer to work either at school using an upstream server or the
school proxy server.

Won't work at home either. Neither wireless nor ethernet.

Home access is fine in both Safari 4 and Firefox 3.
Parallels configuration is set to Network Adapter 1 Shared
Networking

Internet Explorer ... have tried automatically detect , setting a
manual IP, etc

Anyone else had similar issues?

Thanks

Hi Peter,

I have not had any problems in Parallels 4 Build 4.0.3844.
I have not yet updated to Build 4.0.3846

I found this which might be of help to you at this link

"Please follow the steps below in regards to the issue:

1. Please uninstall Parallels using the latest 3846 build.

But remember that you need to uninstall both application and
application settings while uninstalling Parallels Desktop application.

2. Then install Parallels desktop build 3846. After installing you
will be prompted to create a new virtual machine. Cancel that page and
go to File -> Open and choose the appropriate .pvm file in Documents/
Parallels.

Also, install Parallels Tools.

Now, please check if this settings will work:

1. Go to Devices -> Network Adapter 1.
2. Choose bridged networking.
3. Then choose the default adapter, or the adapter name that has been
listed there.

 "

I've continued to click on anything that remotely looks like it is
connected to networking and now it is working! ( At home anyway).

Ignore for now, will get back to the list if I continue to have problems.

Thanks all.

My Snow Leopard gripe is with HP !!

2009-09-16 Thread Stephen Chape

I found after I installed Snow Leopard that my HP F380 multi function
printer would no longer work.
I checked the HP website and found this printer in the list "no longer
supported".
So I printed the list of those HP printers supported and took it to
Harvey Norman.

No probs !!!
I purchased one on that list ... a C4480 multi function.

I now find that it will print and copy, but will not scan.
I emailed HP support.
They are still working on the scan function for that printer.

GREAT !!!
I am still waiting !!

Stephen Chape

Any suggestions regarding mobile internet?

I'm with 3. It worked once before the update to SL10.6.1 and hasn't worked
since.

I totally agree with the replacing the router, There are many clients
I go to see who are running old telstra speedstream modems or similar
and moving to a belkin or a billion(somewhat more advanced) makes a
big difference
With my own personal connection i connect at 4mbps with the standard

the coding gain

Re: Snow leopard Slow leopard

2009-09-16 Thread Paul Weaver

Putting in my ten cents worth, the Snow Leopard installations here have gone
smoothly here and the apps we regularly used before, still worked after the
installation. Most, including some freeware apps have had automatic upgrades
over the past two weeks from their authors to bring them further into line with
SL specs. Furthermore, there have been zero problems with email connections to
our ISP using Snow Leopard.

The only slight SL problem I experienced was with a temporary loss of the
Address Book function on one account. How that was fixed was described on this
list.

There was also a huge improvement to our broadband speed a few weeks ago when
one of my sons bought a Belkin N1 modem/router. Besides at least tripling our
download speeds, we now have zero disconnections. I can remember a
conversation with the ISP a few months ago when I was told that replacing my
iConnectAccess624 ADSL2 router would make little difference. LOL.

Cheers, Paul. :)

RE: Snow leopard Slow leopard

2009-09-16 Thread Toby Oldham

I'm so over (for today) testing software application process flows, I'm
going to put in my two cents.

I installed SL on my home iMac (2.4 Core Duo) and on my office machine
(8 core Mac Pro) - Haven't experienced any bugs, show stopping or
otherwise. Also, none of the apps I use seem to be the worse for wear.

Sorry to hear about your problems Michael.

Cheers,
Tobes.

Am I right in being very cautious about the upgrade to SL/SL?

Seems to me that Apple are at their usual best (and not so best here
with Snow Leopard). They innovate & create brilliant products but
they do not always fire well first off. They test their new stuff on
the consumer. The sorts of fualts and gruambles as per Michael below
are typical.

I think I'll wait six months - or more.

Re: Snow leopard Slow leopard

2009-09-16 Thread Adrian Skehan

 Michael,

My machine is as follows:

  Model Name: MacBook Pro
  Model Identifier: MacBookPro2,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
  Processor Speed: 2.33 GHz
  Number Of Processors: 1
  Total Number Of Cores:2
  L2 Cache: 4 MB
  Memory: 3 GB
  Bus Speed:667 MHz

Is it a possibility that there is something other than the SL
installation causing your grief? It just seems strange that your
machine appears to be a bit of an exception to the rule.

Not that it is of any consolation to you, both the upgrades I did were
seamless, I didn't have to do anything other than run a few updates
when I started some applications.
