Finder fail

2010-10-29 Thread thefrogs

I have a back up drive that houses my time machine that un-mounts when I try to
access file within. It is not every time but it does happen frequently.
Sometimes it quits the finder as well. I have rebuilt fixed prefs started up
logged out. Every time I leave the mac to sleep and then awaken it the backup
disappears and I get the removal message box come up.
10.6.4 on 24in iMac
any thoughts?

2010-10-29 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi Tom,

Have you tried using Disk Utility to Repair Disk of the external Time Machine
Drive?
Disk Utility Repair Drive

If Disk Utility finds any errors fixes them, run it again, until it doesn't
find any errors.

How are you entering Time Machine and Accessing the files ?
What are you trying to do with the file … 'Restore' it?

Is this the Time Machine Drive you did a 'System Restore' from yesterday?

Cheers,
Ronni

Free router/Modem

2010-10-29 Thread Richard Anderson

I had to replace my modem with a wireless one, so the old one is
available to anyone who wants it
It's Netcomm Ethernet/USB ADSLPlus4 (NB1300 PLUS 4) and could be
picked up in Nedlands.

WD ShareSpace vs iPhoto Library

2010-10-29 Thread Brian Risbey

Hi WAMUG,

Error message:

The library could not be opened because the file system of the library's
volume is unsupported.

iTunes is happily residing in the Shared Music folder, the device uses SAMBA as
sharing 'system' but iPhoto library won't open, (and yes I ((Foolishly)) have
also installed iLife'11 on the same day. and it wants to upgrade the iPhoto
library too.)

I have tried attaching iPhoto on a known usb HD via WDShareSpace - still not
working.

You aren't able to reformat the drive as SAMBA is incharge and should talk to a
Mac.

I have poked around the WesternDigital knowledge base no assistance there.

has anyone been able to share there iPhoto Library wirelessly via a WD
ShareSpace?

Brian

Re: WD ShareSpace vs iPhoto Library

2010-10-29 Thread Christopher S

Hi Brian,

The WD ShareSpace supports afp as well as smb(CIFS), nfs and ftp - you
might have to enable it though. I'd also recommend updating its firmware
if you haven't already. This all might be unrelated though.

I've been using one for a while - it's not the fastest but it works.

Good luck,

Chris.
