Don't forget that if you have a copy of Bento, all you need to do is
access the Address Book library which is part of the native setup of
Bento. This is an exact duplicate of your Address Book file, and
Bento can export it to .csv with ease.

Thanks Peter,

I also found another way. Cut and paste from source. Drop into the

second time is the font as set up in FM.

Google weirdness

2010-12-06 Thread Neil Houghton

Hehe,

Don't get me wrong... I love google as a search engine - use it all the
time.

Also like the various search restrictors - like Pages from Australia (so
long as you don't believe that it actually works 100% what with people
hosting in other countries etc) and when, say, looking for stuff relating to
new hardware or software, I often restrict to past month or past year.

Often this works reasonably well

Did a search today - gave about 41,500 results - thought I would narrow it
down a bit so limited it to past year - gave about 154,000 results

So... At ANY time there were around 41,000 results which met the search
criteria - of which 154,000 of them were in the past year!!!

I know that this sort of thing is not unusual with Google search results - I
guess the logic failure just really hit me today!

Hi Diana

Printopia is another program you could look at. I use it to print from my
iPhone (it works equally well on the iPad) and it seems flawless.

I can print to any one of my four printers, none of which are WIFI, as well as
sending the file directly to my Mac.

There's a seven day trial period you can take advantage of also.

Re: IceTV app - recommended? - and Elgato EyeTV Hy brid/i7 iMac problems

Hi, Neil

Sorry for my extremely late reply Neil, Are you still having problems?

On Thu, Nov 25, 2010 at 1:12 PM, Neil Houghton n...@possumology.com wrote:

  Hi Ronni,

First off - there is nothing wrong with the EyeTV Hybrid – it will work
just fine with my 24” iMac (2.4 GHz Core 2 duo, running OSX 10.5.8 and EyeTV
2.5.3) - however, I am planning on passing this computer on – and I want to
watch TV on my nice new big 27” iMac ;o)

I checked out the link and also one at Apple “EyeTV 2.5.3 works with Snow
 Leopard”
 http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2133930http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2133930

The fix you refer to seems to be for when EyeTV 2.5.3 won’t work after
upgrading to Snow Leopard – which isn’t really my problem – the 27”iMac came
with Snow Leopard installed and my instalation of EyeTV 2.5.3 fires up just
fine and proceeds through the set-up OK until it gets to the “Now, plug the
EyeTV Hybrid into a USB 2.0 port” stage.

When I plug the EyeTV Hybrid in, the “Next” key stays greyed out – and if I
hit the “Previous” key then I get the message:

“No hardware is available which supports the TV standards of the selected
country” (and, yes, I did select Australia).

At this point, I have no option but to cancel the set-up assistant.

The EyeTV message “No hardware is available ...” seems to gel with the
fact that System profiler doesn’t even see the device as attached to the USB
 hub.

I’m currently wondering if the USB port is, for some reason, not supplying
enough power to fire up the EyeTV unit, which is why it would be good to
know if ANYONE can confirm that a circa 2006 EyeTV Hybrid WILL work when
plugged directly into a Nov 2009 27” i7 iMac running Snow Leopard.

I’ve also just discovered a different problem/issue/weirdness with the
EyeTV unit when trying to run it on my MacBook Pro – as I mentioned in my
previous post, the EyeTV shows up in system profiler OK – but I just had the
 following experience:

- Tried to run the EyeTV but it told me I was plugged into a USB1 port
- I then tried the other port and it again told me I was plugged into a
 USB1
port (and system profiler showed the unit on a “USB bus” rather than a “USB
high-speed bus” - I found this very confusing as I thought both the ports
were USB 2!

- However, after confirming the unit was working on my 24” iMac, I
tried it later on the MacBook and this time it worked fine – in both USB
ports – and system profiler now showed the unit on a “USB high-speed bus”.
 I
found this EXTREMELY confusing – how can the USB ports migrate between the
“USB bus” and the “USB high-speed bus” ??!!

However, I don’t think this has any bearing on the problem with the 27”
iMac as system profiler only shows this computer as having “USB high-speed
 bus” x 2

I am now wondering if it is worth buying a powered USB2 hub and trying the
 unit on that.

 Cheers

Just as a further comparison, I tried plugging the EyeTV into my MacBook

G'day Diana.

Mine is set up to delete from the server after one day.

Go to Mail - Preferences - Accounts.

Select the appropriate account and go to the Advanced tab (3rd one [Account
Info - Mailbox Behaviours - Advanced])

Tick the box remove copy from server after retrieving a message: and then
select the period from the choice box thingy immediately below.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Diana

There is an option in preferences, mail box behaviour to permanently delete
deleted messages after a nominated time. Does this not work for you, it
appears to for me.

Hi Diana,

Mail Preferences Accounts - click on Advanced - then Remove
copy from server after retrieving a message - select which you want.

Immediately / After One Day etc

Cheers,
Ronni

Thanks Ronni Pete

I had looked in Preferences of course but failed to see that bit.
Another senior moment! It was set for 1 week, I did not wait long
enough.

Eudora in all its glory is still available with a complete makeover of it's
engine with the help of the Mozilla family of software.

Very competent email client form testing thus far. Similar to Thunderbird well
it is as both have same engine, but Eudora Open Source has the little things
that made Eudora special. Well worth the visit, and becoming more of a
permanent fixture, although Mail sits well for me in my OS X little world just
fits, and plays well with the other toys.

 G'day again WAMUGGERS.

Just a reminder: don't forget to plug this into your iCal.

The Annual WAMUG Christmas Barbecue will be held at 12:00 noon on Sunday,
12th December 2009 in the grounds of the old Heathcote Hospital, Applecross.

Click the following link to locate the venue in Google Maps:

 http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=qhl=engeocode=q=heathcote+hospital+applecrosssll=-25.335448,135.745076sspn=63.276794,93.164063ie=UTF8ll=-32.006366,115.848513spn=0.015121,0.022745z=16

 Where will we be?

If you select the 'Earth' view and zoom in so that the old hospital is very
clear, you'll see the car park roundabout (brown) with grey car parking off
to the right and, more importantly, a light coloured footpath heading off to
the right and circling around the whole hospital. If you set off to the right
along that path, you'll come to where we were last year just under the trees
next to the first building (the long skinny one with the three bits jutting
out). Barring unforeseen circumstances, that's where we'll be.

Considering last year was a scorcher, it's a top spot.

All offers of help with the preparation will be most welcome.

All meat, condiments and soft drinks will be provided, but please let us know
by next Tuesday, 7 December if you intend to come along so we can get an idea
of numbers. This will help immensely in estimating quantities. Entry is free
to all WAMUG members, but a gold-coin donation by non-members would be
 welcome.

Just reply to this email if you intend coming.

Airplay from iPhone4 - sound but no video

2010-12-06 Thread Neil Houghton

OK, I've watched Apple's video on AirPlay:

http://www.apple.com/ios/ click See AirPlay in action

So I know this should work!

Tested and working:

Iphone4 updated to latest software
New Apple TV (Nov 2010) connected to TV and working
Home sharing enabled on iMac, AppleTV, and iPhone
Airplay switched on on Apple TV

Videos to try:

1) Episode of Ancient Discoveries TV show, downloaded from iTunes store
(free sample ages ago)

2) Episode of Rake, downloaded from iView, converted using WinX HD Video
Converter for Mac using AppleTV default and classified in iTunes as TV
Show

3) The same downloaded Episode of Rake but converted using AppleTV HD
default and classified in iTunes as Movie

RESULTS
All three videos play fine on the iMac
All three videos play fine on the TV using AppleTV and homesharing from the
iMac
All three videos are synched over to the iPhone and play fine on the iPhone

Airplay from the iPhone to the Apple TV works fine for sound - Albums
songs play and the associated artwork is displayed.

Airplay from ANY of the three videos on the iPhone results in the sound
playing fine but just a preview icon for the movie being displayed.

Apples video demonstrates Airplay (from an iPad) streaming video to the TV
via the Apple TV and they say it works from the iPhone - I get the same
Airplay button as in the video and I can select Apple TV - the trouble is
that only the sound gets streamed - not the video.

I've done some googling but none of the posts I find seem to reflect my
problem.

Any clues out there?

TIA

Neil
