What does it say ? Do you get any error ? Maybe try to verify your keychain
using keychain first aid under the Keychain Access menu.

Preview

2011-11-18 Thread John Thompson
Hi List,
I am missing something (apart from the area between my ears) in my
Preview setup. Whenever I open a pdf file with Preview, it also opens two or
three earlier files viewed. Have checked through the preferences but must be
overlooking something. This, among some other little annoyances which I am
gradually working out, has only occurred since installing Lion.

Thanks

Hi Jon

He is the method Apple suggests - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1428

Another way is to re-install the OS from scratch - that way will delete
everything that is already there.

Old Super 8 to digital

2011-11-18 Thread Chris Burton
Hi Muggers

I have recently been thinking of getting the very old Super 8 reel movies (3
minutes each) converted to digital for this christmas as we are having the
whole family down and I wanted to be able to show some of the old family
footage taken by my Grandfather.

Can anyone suggest how I might be able to do the transfer to digital given this
medium is ancient!!

I asked at the local computer store in Dunsborough and they said various firms
can do it (charging $ accordingly) by using an old projector to run the film,
and have a digital camera to record the scene from the projected image on a
wall or other?

Would that work ok as I was thinking of using my Canon 5D with 50ml lens to
record then downloading to my MBPro for iMovie?

Any advice welcomed

kind regards

Chris

I have a converter box which through a mirror setup makes a
copynot bad at all, but the Mic needs to be turned off on the
camera so that the projector noise is not part of the digital save.
I also have an 8mm movie projector.

I am happy to retrieve it from my cousin and loan it to anyone who needs it.

Re: Old Super 8 to digital

2011-11-18 Thread Tim Law
All,

I was assisted by KBC Video in Karrinyup a few years ago. They have a website
at http://kbcvideo.com.au/index.html

I found their fees to be remarkably low, and wish I had got them to do more of
my fathers Standard 8 rolls at the time. I thought they would not contain
anything interesting; it makes sense to convert them all just in case they do.

I have a Standard 8 projector in a cupboard somewhere that may still work if
anyone needs one. Rubber drive belts would have deteriorated by now, and the
globe is probably irreplaceable - tho this one works. To me, it makes sense to
pay a sensible amount to a competent professional and the job gets done with
little fuss.

Tim

Any CRM / CMS experts out there?

2011-11-18 Thread Steven Knowles
I need to make a decision on what software development route to go down, and
leaning towards an open source CRM / CMS Mac compatible solution, with a big
question mark over whether I even know what I'm talking about when I say that.

Sugar CRM has been mentioned, but I don't know whether such a beast will do all
that I ultimately need it to do.

Is there anybody out there across this space, who wouldn't mind me calling them
for a high level chat?

Re: Old Super 8 to digital

2011-11-18 Thread Mike Murray
I too have done this...

Super 8 projector, Panasonic HDC-HS700 video camera (on a tripod).
Recorded a series of movies being watched by a group of people who were there -
sound effects of the comments (and the projector ticking over) was great, also
edited a silent version with music and a few titles. Put both onto a DVD for
the participants, everyone thought it was fabulous.

Quality of the movie was as variable as the real thing, but a very faithful
reproduction.

Cheers
Mike

Re: Any CRM / CMS experts out there?

2011-11-18 Thread Glenn Nicholas
Steven,

There are a lot of options in this area. If you have extensive functional
requirements, then Sugar CRM might be good for you, but perhaps check out
cloud based services such as Highrise first, as Sugar CRM is a pretty hefty
tool.

You've mentioned CMS and CRM in the same sentence. If you are thinking of
integrating CRM with a CMS, this article looks at CRM from a WordPress
orientation: http://om4.com.au/client/wordpress-crm/

WordPress is an open source CMS. Very popular. 22 out of every 100 new
active domains in the US are launched using WordPress, and it now accounts
for over 55% of all websites that have a CMS.

Happy researching.

Re: Any CRM / CMS experts out there?

2011-11-18 Thread Steven Knowles
Thanks Glenn.

What I'm not sure about is whether I have 'extensive' functional requirements
or not. I guess extensive isa relative term. I think so though, at least in the
longer term.

When you say 'hefty', do you mean as in terms of user friendliness? As in a
layman like me picking it up and running with it?

I suspect my understanding of CMS vs CRM is vague, and ideally what I need is
ask an unbiased somebody question 1 ... This is what I need to do ... what
type of software do I need?, and then question 2 This is the type of software
I need to engage .. what's on the market and what's my best choice?. And then
think about whether I can do the rest myself on a tight time budget, or get a
3rd party involved who specialises in it. Finding people who are (i)
technically excellent in the space you need them and (ii) trustworthy is a
challenge in itself.

Will keep reading!

Cheers, Steven

Sugar CRM has been mentioned, but I don't know whether such a beast will

Is there anybody out there across this space, who wouldn't mind me calling

Re: .asx Movies

2011-11-18 Thread Adrian Skehan
Thanks Reg. that worked but I had thought it should have opened it
automatically. I have set VLC as the default for it.

Re: Any CRM / CMS experts out there?

2011-11-18 Thread Justin Davies
Steven, if you are looking for the open source tools, then wordpress is
excellent. In my view, having done it, it is better to get someone else to take
care of the hosting etc and Glenn is the best guy to talk to in Perth on that.

Another option is business catalyst which you can get a free trial of (I resell
this product so excuse the plug - but I do think it is very good)
http://emergination.com.au/online

It does have a light CRM in it as well. So if someone fills in a form, it goes
straight into the crm. You might find this one product does the trick.

For CRM i really like CapsuleCRM which is free for two users and can plug into
google contacts. I use this for business development for a client.

Hope that helps

Best regards

Justin Davies

What I'm not sure about is whether I have 'extensive' functional requirements

 the longer term.

When you say 'hefty', do you mean as in terms of user friendliness? As in a
layman like me picking it up and running with it?

I suspect my understanding of CMS vs CRM is vague, and ideally what I need is
ask an unbiased somebody question 1 ... This is what I need to do ... what
type of software do I need?, and then question 2 This is the type of
software I need to engage .. what's on the market and what's my best
choice?. And then think about whether I can do the rest myself on a tight
time budget, or get a 3rd party involved who specialises in it. Finding
people who are (i) technically excellent in the space you need them and (ii)
trustworthy is a challenge in itself.

 Will keep reading!

You've mentioned CMS and CRM in the same sentence. If you are thinking of
integrating CRM with a CMS, this article looks at CRM from a WordPress
 orientation: http://om4.com.au/client/wordpress-crm/

WordPress is an open source CMS. Very popular. 22 out of every 100 new
active domains in the US are launched using WordPress, and it now accounts
for over 55% of all websites that have a CMS.

 Happy researching.

Re: Any CRM / CMS experts out there?

2011-11-18 Thread Steven Knowles
Thanks Justin.

I have to listen to you because it was you who originally suggested Saasu for
an accounting solution, which I do now use and am reasonably happy with it.

I think my needs probably go beyond the business catalyst you refer to, at
least based on what I can read about it, but the Software Selection
Implementation service could be of interest. Should I just fill in the Contact
Us form?

Checked out CapsuleCRM, thank you ... leaning towards open source if CRM is
indeed what I need.

Cheers, Steven
