Ronni,

The Thompson Gateway is found at 10.0.0.138 - that's a direct access and has 
all the details.  Channel change done.  I'll see how 13 works.

Turning out to be. You are making it harder for me to help you by not answering 
my questions.
I can’t see what you are seeing on your computer screens; so I ask questions to 
try and see ‘in my mind’ what is happening.

You say:

Well which is it… They open directly in Preview application or they don’t open?

Questions you have not answered:
1. You are using Safari 5.1.5?
2. You are running Safari in 64-bit mode (not 32-bit)? To find out, click once 
to highlight Safari.app then go to File > Get Info and make sure ‘Open in 
32-bit mode’ is not selected.
3. You have checked your Downloads Folder that there are not any bank 
statements there?
4. You have deleted the Safari  “Cache.db" file following my previous 
instructions?
5. You mention you receive a message in Safari Snow Leopard, but nothing in 
Lion?
What happens in Lion when you click or double click on the eStatement PDF?

You say you can open the statements in Firefox but ‘not the same as in Safari’ 
… how do they open in firefox?
Do they open in Preview or Adobe Reader?
Do they just download?
Or you can download them after viewing them?

I’m trying to sort this for you.

Some old gear going out

I have a few old items hanging around that will go out on the verge for the 
current council pickup if no one wants them. There's a 17" Apple Studio 
Display, a working G3 Mac (Sidewinder case) and a PowerMac 7200 (also working - 
I think)

Says:

So the EARLIEST start is currently DEC 2014 with the service being available

- and then when they ACTUALLY turned it on - then it wouldn't be that
surprising if they don't actually meet their schedule ;o)

Hi Stuart,

When you click on the eStatement and it opens in Safari, can't you then go to 
File > Save As 
To download the Statement PDF?

I was in contact with a client of mine today and she uses ANZ online banking 
and I asked her if the ANZ eStatements worked the same as in Netbank (CBA)... 
That is, just click on the Statement and it immediately downloads without first 
opening or viewing.
She said yes, you just click on the Statement and it downloads, it does not 
open first.

You are using Safari 5.1.5?

No, Ronni.  With the ANZ the eStatements open directly into Preview and are not 
copied to the download folder.

I had a bright idea today.  I decided to quit Safari and open Firefox and lo 
and behold the eStatements in both my business and personal ANZ Internet 
Banking accounts open but not the same as in Safari.

I presume therefore it is Safari itself or Safari that is installed on my home 
and surgery iMacs.

Office 2011 update issues

Hi all,
Recently updated to MacOffice 2011 - Version 14.2.0, via Auto-update.
I have noticed some improvements but now some issues with blank  alert boxes 
with just yes / no.
Spell check deactivating.

Anyone else? Apparently Outlook for Mac issues are known -via  9 to 5 Mac.
Considering reverting back to previous version.

Hi David,

Just a thought but - if you are going to change your router, think about
whether you might want to change your phone to VOIP and, if so, whether you
want to look at a router that incorporates VOIP - Billion is one
manufacturer which offers this.

We did this several years ago with a Billion router and Internode's
NodePhone VOIP service and it was all pretty easy to set-up and works well -
and we too are in Albany and on ADSL1.

Now Georgie can call her mum in Perth as often as she feels like and natter
on for as long as she likes without running up a large Telstra bill ;o)

I wouldn't hold my breath on getting NBN in Albany by 2014 -

Says:

So the EARLIEST start is currently DEC 2014 with the service being available
(on average) a year later. So even on their own projections we could expect

However, if you remember when they originally  SAID we would get digital TV
- and then when they ACTUALLY turned it on - then it wouldn't be that
surprising if they don't actually meet their schedule ;o)


Time will tell!

Hi Bill,

Perhaps try Channel 13
The best way to do it is to test them all out. 
Usually the higher channels work better (11-13)

Channels 1-5 overlap each other, as do: 2-6, 3-7, 4-8, 5-9, 6-10, 7-11.
Non-overlapping sets: 1-6-11, 2-7, 3-8, 4-9, 5-10.

In clearer terms, if you're still a bit confused: If the channel numbers are 5 
or more apart, then they don't overlap each other. 
If they are less than 5 apart, they do and you'll get interference.

Hi Bill,

Channel 11 is normally the recommended channel for 802.11b/g 2.4GHz band.
BUT if your nearest neighbours are also on Channel 11 it is best to select a 
channel 2 channels away from them.

Is the Thompson Gateway WiFi handling your wireless Network or have you turned 
OFF wireless on the Thompson and are you using a Airport Extreme or Airport 
Express for your Wireless Network?

If you are using the Thompson Gateway to handle your wireless network / 
connection to the Internet.
Without knowing what model Thompson it is, you need to login to the Thompson 
through your Browser and locate the wireless configuration page and change the 
channel.

combination Shift-Command-G. 
Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press Return:
 
/Library/Internet Plug-ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin
 
If a Finder window opens with that item selected, delete it.
Then Quit Safari and then Relaunch Safari. 

If that doesn’t fix the problem post back.

Safari and PDF files

Good afternoon all!

I have a situation where I am trying to sort a problem out on my brother's iMac 
27" (OS X 10.7.3), Safari (v 5.1.5) will not open links that are to PDF files, 
when you click on the link the page starts to load but then stalls leaving a 
blank (Grey) page on the screen, you can return to the original page without 
any problems.  Tried ditching the plist and reinstalling Safari and the Adobe 
PDF reader to no avail, FireFox on the other hand opens them without any 
problem at all.  Its hard to tell when the problem started but I think it must 
have been after a recent Safari update. I presume it could be a missing 
extension or similar, can anyone out there give me a clue as to where I should 
look please.
