Re: Clearing Wikipedia links in Pages

2014-03-02 Thread David Noel
Thanks very much Ronni, that did the trick. I found that the second
option, pasting into a plain TextEdit document, was better for me. The
first option, turning off hyperlinks, did work OK, but it left the
former links underlined in blue, which was a bit confusing.

Praise and thanks to the Master. (better not put Mistress).

Re: Mail

2014-03-02 Thread Chris Burton
Hi muggers

Im amazed to hear that there are now 1TB SSD's available for laptops and it is
great to hear that they make a big difference for people who are using MBPros
etc!?

Are these expensive to buy and install? Would this be a useful way to improve
overall efficiency and speed of my MBPro (for example using PS6 and Lightroom)
as well as installing Mavericks on to it?

I had raised the issue of upgrading my present system (MBPRo 15, OSX 10.6.8
with 8gb Ram) with the group and Ronni had mentioned I could upgrade to
Mavericks, but just havnt had time to do much at all.

Best regards

Chris

Re: IMPORTANT!! WAMUG Annual General Meeting

2014-03-02 Thread Maureen Smith
Hello Fellow WAMUGgers,

In response to Peter Hinchcliffe’s AGM notice I too urge all members that are
in Perth to consider attending the AGM. Not that I have anything against our
country members but I do realise the journey might be a bit long. 😄😄😄 It is
during this AGM that the Report of the Committee and the Financial Statements
is given and, most importantly, the election of the Officers and the Committee.
A committee needless to say, is vital to the future of WAMUG.

I have been a member of WAMUG since 2010 when I made the transition from
Windows to Macs. I have attended virtually all the meetings since then and
have always come away with some information, an answer to a question or a
product which I have later included in my personal arsenal of software.

About two years ago I tentatively put up my hand to be a member of the
Committee because I valued the meetings and wanted them to continue. I say
tentatively, because compared to the knowledge of Peter H, Ronnie, Daniel and
others, I am a mere private in the “WAMUG army”. However, it is a decision I do
not regret.

Although I may lack huge expertise in all things Apple - actually extend that
to all things ‘computerish’ - I found out I did have things to offer, just as
we all have. Being a teacher-librarian I have no problem in presenting to a
group so I have on occasion given demonstrations at the meetings. Your
expertise might be in organisation, or a particular software package. Maybe you
are great at secretarial stuff and would be happy to take minutes at a meeting,
or you have a video and would be willing to video & edit a meeting. Whatever
your gifts consider becoming committee member.

The more committee members we have the more support we can give to you, our
members and to ourselves. Perhaps consider joining for just this year.
Certainly no one is expecting a lifetime commitment but as the proverb states
“Many hands make light work.”

Cheers to everyone,

Maureen Smith

Re: Intego - 'Mac Internet Security 2013' - Uninstallation (Julie Bedford)

2014-03-02 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Jewels,

A bit of friendly advice.
Before installing any ‘Third-Party’ (non-Apple) Software make sure you:
Know what the software does
Know how to Install, Setup, and Use the software
Know how to uninstall the software

Disk Drill Pro is file recovery software, it also offers a conventional drive
S.M.A.R.T monitoring toolset.

First step to do is check: Do you have the latest version of Disk Drill Pro
installed?
Perhaps you don't have the latest - as it should install OSXFUSE not MacFUSE.

OSXFUSE is a successor to MacFUSE, (which has been unmaintained since 2008 and
is not compatible with OS X 10.7)
It shares most of its source code with MacFUSE.
OSXFUSE supports Mac OS X 10.5 and later (Intel and PowerPC architecture). It
is fully compatible with 64-bit kernels and OS X 10.7.
OSXFUSE is open source and under active development.

Second Step - You need to Uninstall MacFUSE before installing OSXFUSE

A) How can I uninstall MacFUSE?
Open System Preferences and go to the MacFUSE preference pane. Click on the
"Remove MacFUSE" button.

This will uninstall all MacFUSE components except the preference pane itself.

B)To remove it from the Preference Pane, you remove it just like how you would
remove any other non-Apple preference pane:

In System Preferences, control-click (right-click) on the MacFUSE icon and you
will see "Remove ..." as an action.

C) Then download & Install OSXFUSE

Install "FUSE for OS X"

The recommended way to install "FUSE for OS X" is to download the latest
"OSXFUSE-{version}.dmg" available from and
double-clicking on "Install OSXFUSE {version}".

How can I keep "FUSE for OS X" up-to-date?

The tools to keep "FUSE for OS X" up-to-date (query the installed version,
query for available updates, download and install updates, and so on) are built
into "FUSE for OS X". Simply launch the "System Preferences" application and go
to the "FUSE for OS X" preference pane.
It should tell you if there is and update and if so, will also let you download
and install it.

Extra information:
Update Disk Drill Pro 2

I'm going to take a break now from WAMUG for what is left of the long week-end

Re: Intego - 'Mac Internet Security 2013' - Uninstallation (Julie Bedford)

2014-03-02 Thread Julie Bedford

Good morning Ronni,

When I started the computer this morning, this is what came up in a small box:

 Internal module - updated required
Your Mac has an older version of Fuse for OSX. Recover results may not be
mounted correctly. Click to upgrade.

I checked System Preference and I have MacFUSE - should I uninstall then if it
is out of date and useless ?

I dont appear to have OSXFUSE at least it doesn't show up in the System
Preferences.

I think the following message originates from Disk Drill PRO program:
Hardware issues detected
Warning - seems to be having hardware issues and need your attention

I purchased Disk Drill Pro recently - could that be more wasted money? Should
I uninstall this or
has it any validity.

No urgency in replying - have Monday off !

Cheers
Jewels

IMPORTANT!! WAMUG Annual General Meeting

2014-03-02 Thread Peter Hinchliffe
This is a reminder to everyone that the meeting of Tuesday 4th March is the
WAMUG Annual General Meeting. It is very important that we have at least 15
people attend this meeting, in order to prevent the situation which arose last
year when we failed to get a quorum.

To this end, we will be offering a range of door prizes to those who attend,
and will be worth your while to come along to stand a chance of picking one of
these up. We will have a raft things ranging from a 64Gb iPad Mini, a 3Tb Time
Capsule or some fancy headphones down to some handy gadgets which can used to
augment your digital life. We are seeking several more committee members to add
to our small group, most of whom are overworked and over-committed in other
areas to do full justice to the job.

If you are keen to see WAMUG continue, as are all the members of the committee,
please consider nominating for a place with us. Our meetings are casual (a
little too much at times!) but every one on the committee is committed to to
the continuation of WAMUG and the concept of the monthly meeting. If all we
hear is be be believed, 2014 is going to an exciting year for Apple, and it's
great to be able to help bring some of that excitement to WAMUG members.

As usual, the meeting will be at FutureSphere, Level 1 Building L; Christ
Church Grammar School, Queenslea Drive Claremont at 7:00 pm. For more details

Exactly what was the message... was it related to MacFUSE or OSXFUSE ?

MacFUSE, has been unmaintained since 2008 & not compatible with OS X 10.7
OSXFUSE is a successor to MacFUSE & is compatible with OS X 10.7

2014-03-02 Thread Julie Bedford
I didn't realise Stephen you had the same problem too.
I did notice when I restarted my computer earlier that it is said I have some
hardware issues
again. Somethink about Fuse being outdated. Not even sure what Fuse is.

 Hi Jewels,

I've changed the subject in case anyone needs to search the archives at
 some time.

Have you uninstalled the 'Mac Internet Security 2013' following the
instructions (with screenshots) in the link in my previous email?

If so, is Safari working properly again?

Intego - 'Mac Internet Security 2013' - Uninstallation

 Uninstallation:
You will use the same installer you used to install your Intego software
 to remove it.
 1. Locate the disk image you downloaded from the Intego website and
 double-click it to open it.
 2. You will see the installer as you did when you installed the software.
Double-click the installer to start it.
 3. One of the first options you see will ask you whether you are
 installing or uninstalling the software.
 4. Choose to uninstall the software and follow the instructions.

If you are unable to locate the original disk image, download the software
again from the link I supplied previously

 Cheers,
 Ronni

 Hi Ronni,
 Apologise, I completely missed it.
Fortunately, I have not tried to uninstall the Intego software.
My OSX is 10.7.5. The Intego software consists of the following:
 Virus Barrier - version 10.7.8
 NetUpdate - version 10.7.4
 NetBarrier - version 10.7.5
I purchased this within the last two weeks. If I can get rid of this and
 get my Safari
back working, I'll be happy. I will then maybe check out the ClamXav.

Do you personally think it wise to have some form of protection ?

 Thanks
 Jewels
