Fax document attached to email

2015-11-20 Thread Matt Falvey
Hi, I have ordered a copy of a marriage cert from Wiltshire, it was due to
arrive as a digital copy. It has arrived as a fax in a .zip format.

Every time I try to open it, no matter what type of expander, it opens into a
.js file.

When I click on the file it opens in Safari with a page of typed rubbish,
featuring the words, return & function multiple times on the page.

Any one have any idea of how I can open this file?

Thanks

Matt.

Mail - El Capitan

Where has the handy little drop down menus below the list of mailboxes gone?
Very handy for clearing junk, emptying trash etc.

Hi Severin,

Do you mean none of the mailboxes are showing in the left column?
If so: Go to View > Show Mailbox List.

Cheers,
Ronni

The list of all my mailboxes are showing but the little magic wheel at the
bottom with drop down options is not there.

Re: Fax document attached to email

Hi Matt,

.js is a JavaScript file.
In Safari > Preferences > Security - Web Content - Enable JavaScript.
If that doesn't display the file correctly.
Have you tried open the .js file in TextEdit?
In Finder, select the .js file, like "menu.js", then choose "File" > "Get
Info".
In the Info window, click the disclosure triangle next to "Open With", and
select the TextEdit application to open the document from the "Open With"
pop-up menu.

Cheers,
Ronni

Fax document attached to email

2015-11-20 Thread Matt Falvey
Hi Tim, Hadn't thought about that. I have just emailed them and asked them to
send it again via PDF and also to confirm if they had sent the zip file in the
first place. Will see what happens when they get back to me next week.

Thanks.

Matt.

Matt I am assuming this file is from a legitimate sender, as you say it's a
document you are expecting.

I'm aware Sending as a zip is often used by spammers to load malicious software

One option is to ask them to resend as PDF files, which should be easy enough
for a reputable organization.

Fax document attached to email

2015-11-20 Thread Matt Falvey

Hi Ronni, I tried both of those options. 1. JavaScript was already enabled in
Safari. 2. When I opened the file in Text Edit it was much the same as in
Safari, mainly function, return, and various types of brackets.

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Matt.

Hi Matt,
My suggestion would be the same as Tim’s.
