Complete Finder Crash (OS 10.2.3)

2003-01-07 Thread Dark Lord
Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately the finder will not even
appear in the force quit menu. When I click on the finder in the dock
it says "Finder Not Running".

Ruben A. Franke

I was running Mozilla 1.2b yesterday while running ICQ and iTunes in
the background. Upon trying to "Save Page As" the finder crashed. I
lost all my finder windows and my desktop icons disappeared. The
menu

bar and dock remained visible and functional. I had things that I
still needed to do online so I didn't try restarting at the time. I
came back to my computer today and performed a restart. Now when the
computer starts up the top menu bar flashes on and off until I load
an

application from the dock and I still can't run my finder.
I have been left only to be able to run my applications in the dock
and

my system preferences via the menu bar.

Have you tried going to the Apple Menu and open up the Force Quit
window. From here you can restart the Finder and this could solve the
problem... I have had a similar issue that this fixed...

Good luck,

Phil

Re: Imagebrowser (Canon Powershot) crash

2003-01-03 Thread Dark Lord

A200 causes my finder to crash, providing me with the colour wheel
until I restart my computer. After restarting my computer this
problem

will occur again. It will occur about a minute after restart when
trying to open files, programs, ect.
I thought it might be some sort of conflict with an old version so I
updated to the latest version (v2.7) but the same problem occured.
The

only way I could fix the problem was by booting up into OS 9 and
erasing all traces of the installed software.

Can you live without ImageBrowser and use the inbuilt Mac OS X Image
Capture or iPhoto?

If not, have a look in the console logs and see if there are any
reports on what's causing the crash.

Have fun,
Shay

Thanks for the suggestion. I have considered this but is there any way
for me to transfer short movies made on my camera?

Thanks for all the Input guys

Fwd: Internet 56k speeds

2002-12-22 Thread Dark Lord
They quote $9.90 a month but it works out to $24 a month when you
account for their expensive but capped download charges.

Also borrow some friends' internet accounts (ie different ISPs) and
see how each one connects. Then you could take the Mac to each
person's place and have a more accurate idea of whether it's phone
line or ISP.

For Dodo to be providing an internet service at $9.90 per month, they
must really be cutting their costs, so one would also have to wonder
what bandwidth they are making available. Dingo Blue turned up a few
years ago with good access at a cheap price and managed to go broke
spectacularly well because the profits just weren't there. If it was
profitable to run an efficient ISP service for $9.90 per month, then
everyone would be doing it.

Phil

It has been happening for awhile now so it's not related to the Mac
OS
update. Hardware and software haven't changed since I stopped
getting

my better connection speeds (except for minor updates now and then).
I did notice that my phone line has been behaving strangely for a
while. That started about the same time the connection speed went
bad.

You can hear interference over normal phone calls sometime (not
cordless phone) and sometimes the phone just cuts out to silent when
the phone is dialing up to someone.

Anyway thanks for the help
I will go through the elimination process

Hi Ruben,

You do not tell us what has happened in the middle ! ?

You are running 10.2.3 on a G4-400
which means you have at least updated your MAC OS
because 10.2.3 has only just arrived.

Assuming that NOTHING has changed on your phone line or at your ISP
this MIGHT mean you are using a different Modem Initialiasatiuon
SCRIPT.

Trevor's description about the PROCESS OF ELIMINATION is the
way to
go !

So what was the Hardware and WHAT software were you using when you
were

getting the better speed ?

I've noticed that I don't seem to be getting the same download

3.8kb/sec. I also noticed that I don't seem to be able to get a
connection above 4 bps very often (sometime get 42667). I
used to
get connected at 46667 or 48000. I'm pretty sure it's not the
ISP's
fault. Does anyone know what might be causing this and is there
any

way of correcting this problem.

iTunes Problem

2002-12-07 Thread Dark Lord

I have a friend who is running OS 10.2.1 on an 700Mhz Emac.
Every now and then iTunes comes up with the little icon that says the
song can't be found. If he wants to be able to play the song again he
has to relocate in his iTunes music folder or re-add it to his music
library. The actual songs themselves do not go missing. I found this
to be a rather curious problem. Does anyone have an interesting answer?

Re: iTunes volume levelling

2002-11-26 Thread Dark Lord
I tried using it the other day and it didn't really work. I noticed
that some of my songs were particularly quite while others sounded
quite loud. Difference in music type wasn't a real factor either to
the music volume. I don't think it's because you stopped it half way
so I wouldn't worry about that.
My advice is to manually adjust the volume of the few songs that don't
fit in with the others.

Happy listening
Ruben A. Franke

I know that iTunes 3 has automatic global volume levelling, but does
anyone

have experience with it and knows that it really *does* work?

I've tried it with mine, but I'm not sure it is true. It may be
because I
cancelled it from levelling half way through, and it doesn't want to
do the

other half. But I'm sure some of them don't have the same volumes, even
accounting for peaks etc. Also I realise that some songs have such low
volumes that they cannot be adjusted enough (upwards), but it's not
that.

Is there a way to do the volume levelling again? (Deleting some
preference

file somewhere?)

It's a major reason to go to OSX believe it or not.

Was it really fun???

What they are after, which they will only tell you about after a lot
more
emails praising your honesty and righteousness, is $5000 to $1 in
"bank

you
have so kindly allowed them to use. I got involved in one a few years

just for fun and these guys are experts.
