default flag?

2008-11-21 Thread John Reed
Hi Wamuggers

The wee Australian flag on the top bar next to the Date and tie keeps
reverting back to the US flag without me telling it to. Whilst this
doesn't affect the function of the machine, I'd rather it didn't make
political statements on my behalf and was wondering if there's a way
to stop it doing this or else get rid of the flag altogether
(hopefully this isn't an offence under the terrorism act).

Also is there a way to tell the machine that we live in a place that
uses PAL and to open video applications with default PAL settings
rather than NTSC? (realising that we'll probably have to get into
terminal command line territory)?

thanks in advance

john

modified advice

2008-01-31 Thread John Reed
Thanks Bob

I'm sure you're right. It's a David and Goliath thing. They have
us. I thought I'd share my tale to discourage others from being so
foolish as I.

I have contacted the ombudsman so will be interesting to see what
they say.

Telstra Caveat Emptor

2008-01-30 Thread John Reed
I too have had a very difficult experience with Telstra. I decided
to 'bundle' several mobiles, home phone and foxtel together into a
single bill account with reward options. Sounded like a sensible
thing to do. I did the transaction on the phone. A very pleasant
person in Darwin lead me through. It was a great experience. she
told me I had a 10 day cooling off period. No worries. The phones
came. All ok except one of them was a black Telstra phone with no
camera, so as I hadn't opened it I called to ask them to send another
like the others and I would send this one back. Now I'm dealing with
the bad cops. Not possible. No cooling off period. Told I could
complain if I liked - the tone was very different to the nice person
who set up my account. Then the bills started coming. Not single
bill, but all separate accounts. An order of magnitude more
expensive that I had anticipated. Many phone calls later I have
established what I wanted in the first place - single bill, but still
keep getting letters telling me to send in a single bill request form
even though I did some time ago. I even got one of the people I
talked to to admit that I was lied to about the cooling off period,
but there was nothing that could be done about it. And when you're
busy you just don't have the time to sit on the phone for an hour
waiting in a cue even before you get to talk to someone. These
people are all over the place. My advice is if you start a
contract with them record the phone conversation like they do to you
or else you have no comeback.

Caveat Emptor all right.

Peter,

I'd be very wary about Next G and the tick nonsense. I switched
to Next G last year before there was any real QC on the part of
Telstra. The bloke in the shop assured me that I would have
coverage "everywhere".

No.

I complained via the Telstra Complaints website and to me my surprise
I was contacted by a real person with actual information and no
bullshit. They offered me a ZTF as a "rural" ready tick phone. A
clunky hard to use piece of rubbish as a it turns out, complete with
extendable aerial which makes no diff.

I was told where NextG would NEVER work ( anywhere on the Great
Northern Highway between Dalwallinu and Mount Magnet, unless I
invested in an expensive long range external aerial or use a satphone
for e.g. - CDMA works fine there)And many other places where
few people live but roads carry large volumes of traffic.

The metro area? Fine he said. No sorry, its not, chunks of the
Hills are silent for Next G (Glen Forrest, Parkerville etc)

Caveat Emptor! Ask to see the coverage map.

Bill

Port no. query

2005-02-06 Thread John Reed
Hi wamuggers

I am attempting to set up filemaker pro 6 so that I can publish some
databases on a website. When I go to filmaker pro
preferences/application/plug-ins and check the 'web companion' plug-in, I
get a message

'the web companion cannot share files over the web because of a port number
conflict. Please configure the plug-in to use a port number other than 80'

Does anybody know what number port I should reconfigure it to?

Thanks in advance

I have a folder containing an image sequence saved from FCP in a folder.

Does anybody know how to do this separation process?

re:Keyboard Help Please

Final Cut Pro 4 no longer worked even though the keyboard assignments in

haven't had time to try and sort out why

making mp3's from aiff's

2003-07-25 Thread John Reed
I'm trying to make some mp3's of various specs from aiff files to put a
band's music onto their website so it can be downloaded in various
resolutions according to the user's connection speed and machine...also
it needs to be playable on a windows machine or a mac...
I haven't found an application yet which gives me choices about
specifications - itunes gives me a 46mb mp3 which is too big, final cut
pro doesn't give me an mp3 export option, or quicktime, or peak dv, or
soundtrack (as far as i can see anyway)

any clues?

filemaker pro calendar solution?

2003-05-07 Thread John Reed
hi folks

I'm using filemaker pro 6 and osX 10.2.3

I'm looking for a comprehensive calendar that gives me daily entry ,
weekly, monthly and yearly summary (yearly as in columns of months to
print off wall chart summaries). I want to integrate it with other
filemaker pro databases for organising projects. It seems that
calendar monster used to be the answer but that seems to be untraceable
after filemaker 4. CC calendar from Clevelandconsulting.com looks good
but doesn't have a yearly view. Skedpro and Appt1.0v7 FM5 look a bit
clunky.

ical looks good but isn't filemaker pro and doesn't have a yearly view.

Does anyone know any solutions and are there any workarounds to
integrate existing calendars (eg entourage, ical) with filemaker pro?

thanks in advance

john
