Free: LC Ethernet Cards
A year (or two?) back I gave away some old LC gear to some people who were operating a small network of these wonderful, though horribly outdated, machines. During a cleanup I have just found two (still boxed and shrink-wrapped) Ethernet cards for LC 475 (or similar). Free to anyone who can use them. :-) Paul Tetley

Wanted: SCSI Drive (40pin) for Performa 580CD
Hi, I'm trying to resuscitate a Performa580CD for my nephew. The machine will only boot if I unplug the hard drive (otherwise it gives a system error #97 - meaning it can't initialise the SCSI controller). I have an old 1GB SCSI drive so thought I was all set - but it has a 50pin connector on the back, and all my 'junk' LC's are IDE... Does anyone have an old SCSI drive, 40pin, (around 800MB) for sale or swap? Regards, Paul Tetley -- Weave I.T. Pty Ltd www.weave.com.au Software Development, Web Sites, Technical Support

(Sorry - haven't been reading my mail for a while) shameless-plug For MacOS-X, check out HardLine (www.hardline.ws). It's pure Java so you can run it on just about any modern computer (Win, Mac-X, Linux, etc). It's an attempt at the ASP marketing model, which works really well in this case, since all the market data is managed and updated on the server - you just run a client program, and since your profile lives on the server, you can use it at home on the mac and also on the PC at work (or whatever). It's quite usable on a 56K modem, and excellent with broadband. There's a 14day free trial, and there is AU and US equities data. One warning - the GUI is a little un-mac-like (perverted aqua?) but we're working on it... /shameless-plug :-) Paul Tetley
Alcaltel SpeedTouch USB on X?
Hi, I'm setting up ADSL for the home network and got the Alcatel USB modem from iinet. I have a choice of MacOS-X or a Linux box (or windows...) for the 'gateway' so I thought I'd have a try with X first. The modem is synching just fine, I've installed the OS-X drivers, all diagnostics look good, but I'm (so far) unable to get X to route. (The instructions say to setup PPP with nullmodem, but it won't connect.) Has anyone made this work? The drivers I'm using came on the CD, but on the web site they say the X drivers only work for about 6 European countries. Otherwise, tomorrow night I'll be building a Linux gateway... TIA Paul Tetley
Low-End Laser Printer for MacOS-X?
Hi, Does anyone have any advice/experience on any of the current $1k Laser Printers for MacOS-X (regarding drivers, usability etc)? I'm still searching, but have not yet found drivers for ANY of these printers... Options seem to be: Epson EPL-5900L (recommended by one of the Apple Centres - but there were no X drives on Epson's web site). (And no mention of the printer supporting postscript of PCL) Panasonic have very cheap Duplexing printer - but no sign of drivers. Kyocera? Brother? Canon? HP LaserJet 1000? TIA, Paul Tetley

Nathalie Collins wrote: Hello All: I am looking for a text editor for C and/or Java programming with colour coding and indenting features. I would like to try before I buy so I need a demo. I prefer an OSX program, but OS9 is OK. I have looked at Bbedit for OSX and wasn't happy with it. Choke/ Wash your mouth out! But letting that go for moment... Project Builder is very good - it's on the DevTools CD... The integration with the compilers and Interface Builder are nice touches too! Paul Tetley
