iCal Alert time.

2012-09-04 Thread iCloud
Good morning all,

I seem to recall that there was a post some time ago on changing the iCal
default alert time but I cant find any reference to it in the archive.

The default time is is set at 9am but I would rather it be 7am. Can anyone
remind me of how this is done please!

iPod screen lock

2012-09-01 Thread iCloud
Good afternoon all,

My grand daughter has managed to lock her iPod screen and does not know the
password. A search of the net suggests the following should fix the problem
but I can't get it to work.

Solution to reset screenlock without a format :)

Hi, After a few minutes of looking through my iPod i have discovered a way to
reset the screen lock. Below is some instructions, Please note that you must
enable disk mode on the iPod, Enabling it after the screen lock as been enabled
will still work.

1. Plug in your ipod to your dock/cable?
2. Open up the terminal?
3. type: cd /Volumes/NameOfYouriPod? (in this case it is "Michele lucerne's
iPod")
4. type: rm iPod_Control/iPodPrefs
5. type: rm -rf iPod_Control/Devices
6. Hold the menu button and centre button so it restarts while its connected to
your mac then remove the cable/dock while its restarting.

Your screenlock should now be reset. It works everytime for me.

I have pasted the following into Terminal and pressed Return but nothing happens

cd /Volumes/Michele lucerne's iPod
rm iPod_Control/iPodPrefs
rm -rf iPod_Control/Devices

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: iPhoto doesn't open after Upgrade to Mountain Lion

2012-08-13 Thread iCloud
Hi Matt,

Have you had a look inside to see if the pictures are in tact.

Right click the iPhoto Library > Show Package Content. There should be a
folder called "Originals" or in Aperture its called "Masters" the photos should
be in there. From there you should be able to drag/copy the folder out and
import them into a new Library. I expect that you would just get the pictures
without any captions etc. that may have been applied to them.

 Hi Matt,

Have you tried the last option I gave you if the other options didn't fix
 your iPhoto Library?

 1. Hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto.
It will show you a Window with 'Photo Library First Aid'

 2. Choose 'Rebuild Database'

See if that can complete and you can then Upgrade the iPhoto Library.

 Cheers,
 Ronni

Re: Mountain Lion download problem

2012-07-25 Thread iCloud
Thanks Carlo & Ronni

Seeing that I have apple care I gave them a ring. The problem was with the
firewall, once that was off the download started OK.

interestingly they told that I can happily leave the firewall off and I can
uninstall ClamXav off I like as its not really necessary.

Mountain Lion download problem

2012-07-25 Thread iCloud
Good afternoon all,

I have gone through the process of purchasing Mountain Lion, including ticking
the new Agreement box etc. but I have been unable to get it to download, when
I click on the download button the little rotating wheel comes up for a couple
of seconds then nothing. I tried to go through the purchase process again but
it tells me that I have already paid so.

Has anyone else had this problem??

(iMac 27", OS X 10.7.4)

Thanks Ronni & Daniel

I have changed the channel to "1" and the signal went up to 75% (varying
between 73% & 78%) and the range went up a notch, the other 2 stations are at
22% & 23%. Would I be correct in thinking that if I selected channel 2 the

Re: Loosing Wi-Fi connection

2012-07-20 Thread iCloud
Good afternoon Ronni.

Sorry to be so long reporting back but I was laid up for a few days.

I downloaded iStumble and find that my router is on channel 11 with a signal of
65% (even though it is only 4 meters away), another also on channel 11 at 30%
signal and a third at 13%. They are all WAP secure Thompson routers on Bigpond
accounts.

I have also noticed that the signal throughout the house is very weak in the
front rooms, down to 1 bar only. So before I start mucking about with the
channels I am wondering if I would be better off getting a new router that has
a greater range or getting a range boosting device I have seen at Dick Smiths
for about $128.

While I have been contemplating the options I have noticed that the iMac has
stopped loosing Wi-Fi connection and that it is now playing U-Tube videos
without the continuous stalling I was asking about earlier.

I am leaning towards a new router with the 5GHz/2.5GHz capability but
conversations I have had with salesmen is usually based on their personal
experience and i am yet to find one who impressed me as knowing more about than
I do, their advice is not always as helpful as it should be, the end result is,
choosing which one to purchase is a very hit and miss proposition. Another
problem with choosing is the huge price range the come in, and the information
printed on the packaging which all seems to say much the same thing in
different ways that gives the average punter a lot of meaningless information.

If anyone can give me a clue on which one to look at it will be appreciated.

should I be looking at replacing it.

Loosing Wi-Fi connection

2012-07-14 Thread iCloud
Good afternoon all,

I have been experiencing an annoying occurrence for a week or more now and cant
find anything in the archive that may help.

Every time my iMac (27" i7 Intel OS X 10.7.4) goes to sleep the internet drops
out in a peculiar way;

While the iMac G5, iPhone and iPad connect OK and the router is also indicating
it is connected, on the iMac (27") Mail and Safari do not have internet
connection. The Wi-Fi indicator in the menu bar shows the computer is
connected (4 bars)

In System Preferences > Network it shows Wi-Fi is connected, selecting Assist
Me > Diagnosis the indications are; Wi-Fi OK (green light), Wi-Fi Settings OK
(green light), Network Settings OK (green light), ISP (Red Light), Internet
(Red Light) and Server (Red Light). The Choose network port configuration
Wi-Fi is selected.

Choosing continue > goes to available networks with my network selected,
clicking Continue it then brings ISP, Internet and Server on line again with
the message that the internet appears to be Working.

Any suggestions on how to fix this will be appreciated.

Re: Posting to mailing list soon for WAMUG members only

2012-06-10 Thread iCloud
I dont have a problem with paying the $30 in fact I have felt a bit guilty for
years because I never got around to it before. I was only thinking of those
pensioners and the like who may be doing it a bit tough with the recent and
substantial increase in the cost of living. I daresay that if anyone is in
difficulty with it they will either drop out or plead their own case.

Good morning all,

For some time now I have wondering if the committee has given any thought to
having an associate membership (for the want of a better term) with a reduced
fee that would allow elder members i.e. pensioners and others on a fixed income
or even those in more remote areas, to seek occasional assistance, I don't
think there would be many, if any, that would begrudge paying a fee for the
amazing help that is so often forthcoming on the list. I also think another
point that may be worth considering is that many of the aforementioned are not
able to attend the groups meetings or functions either at all or even
occasionally.

Mail Client Configuration, to SSL or not to SSL

2012-05-26 Thread iCloud
Good morning all,

Due to the imminent demise of MobileMe web hosting I have transferred my web
site to another host. I am setting up e-mail accounts such as
i...@skehan.id.au and the like but cant figure out if I should use the
Auto-Configure Mac Mail.app® for IMAP Access or the Auto-Configure Mac
Mail.app® for IMAP Access (SSL) app provided by the hosting people. They also
give manual settings; Supported Incoming Mail Protocols: POP3, POP3S (SSL/TLS),
IMAP, IMAPS (SSL/TLS) and Supported Outgoing Mail Protocols: SMTP, SMTPS
(SSL/TLS).

It seems straight forward but to SSL or not to SSL is the question?

Any advice will be appreciated.

2012-05-19 Thread iCloud
Its hard to believe that anyone is chasing this guy at all, he or his
girlfriend have been calling me at least 3 times a year for the last 3 or 4
years claiming to be from Microsoft, ATO, survey company and the like. I tried
playing bum on one occasion and even got them to give me their address, it was
close to kings Cross, Sydney. I told them that I lived close by and volunteered
to bring the computer in for them to fix, that really put them on the back
foot. I know is voice so well now that I greet him like a long lost brother
and ask him who is today so I dont get to talk with him for long.

He is now good for a laugh.

iPod battery

2012-05-10 Thread iCloud
Good after noon all!

Some time ago I bought a new battery for my 60 GB iPod Photo but, alas, I have
not been able to open the case. It could be that my hands are no longer strong
enough to apply the required pressure required to get the tool into it.

Can anyone suggest where I could take it to get it opened please.

Regards,

Adrian

New German iPad.

2012-05-03 Thread iCloud
Good morning all!

New German iPad. You get the gist, even if you don’t speak German.

You can get the English subtitles by pressing the "cc" on the bottom tool bar.
