Re: [WAMUG} Compact Flash Card.

2021-01-01 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Hi Peter

Re: The 4 Finger salute, have used this method Peter but it only lasts for a
short while. I have a memory of Ronni warning me of processing Photo’s, which
is my hobby, that for each photo processed the computer makes a copy, which is
probably the cause of my problem, too many copies, but where do they hide, I’ve
tried searching but to no avail. If I can find the copies I can delete them. I
have been using Affinity Photo and processing RAW files.

Thanks Peter

Kind Regards

2020-12-23 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Good Morning Stephen

Thank you for your suggestions, all tried but without success, when I opened Disk
Utility the Card was no where to be seen, the Card Reader is working ok, having
tried other cards all working fine. The Card isn’t working in the Camera and I
have tried the Card in a different Camera, so I’ll have to see if an IT person
can help, otherwise the Photo’s will remain locked away. One suggestion from
the “ Camera" was that the Card needed re-formatting, I don’t think that would
be the way to go as I’ll lose everything.
SanDisk trouble shooting wasn’t very helpful either, all assume that the Card
will be found by searching. So I think I’ll drop SanDisk an e-mail and see if
any of their technicians can help.

Again thank you for your help Stephen.

Kind Regards

Have you tried the good ol’ 4-finger salute (reboot the computer while holding
down the Option, Command, P and R keys all at the same time. Keep holding until
the computer restarts at least twice - I usually wait for the third restart)?

This used to be called resetting the PRAM. It’s called something else these
days but it has the same effect.

Worth a try. I’ve had it fix similar problems many times in the past.

Dam it eh ?

The only other option might be that if you come up to Perth in the future.
Drop in to Macs4U at 269 Great Eastern Highway in Midland and see if they can
help.
They have some very good techs there.

If you eject a volume, you can use Disk Utility to mount the volume so that
it’s available in the Finder.

Open Disk Utility for me

In the Disk Utility app on your Mac, select the volume you want to mount.

Click the Mount button .

SanDisk Compact Flash card for Nikon

2009-09-13 Thread Lloyd White

Fools rush in where angels fear to tread! Again!

I have Nikon CoolPix 5700 camera that uses CompactFlash. Currently using
SanDisk 512MB.

Recently in Dubai - with full assurances from the sales person that it would
work - I bought a 4 GB SanDisk Ultra II Compact Flash.

After insertion the message came up out of memory so I formatted the card
within the camera.

Still no joy. Should it work with the 5700?

If not does anyone have a use for it. It costs $31 duty free and I would
accept offers.

Otherwise I will have a 4GB back-up disk; which is useful for ?

Regards

Lloyd

Re: SanDisk Compact Flash card for Nikon

2009-09-13 Thread Philippe Chaperon
Hi Lloyd,
Well I had the same problem only a few weeks ago when the 4GB San Disk I
purchased for ... $18 at BigW, was not accepted by my Lumix FZ30. Turns out
the FZ30 accepts cards up to 2 GB also, like yours. And what's more my
multi-card reader San Disk ImageMate purchased 18 months ago for $69 would
not read the 4 GB card also.

I ended up by giving my card to someone whose camera accepts the 4GB ones,
and he insisted in giving me a couple of 2GB cards to compensate!

I guess that's the price we have to pay for the 'convenience' of a fast
progressing technology.

Best of luck,

Philippe C

Re: SanDisk Compact Flash card for Nikon

2009-09-13 Thread Mark Secker

This is reasonably common limitation on older digital cameras
The limitation is that the camera can only reading FAT 16 disk format
which has a limit of 2GB.

Any CF card above this will be FAT 32.

You can, theoretically, reformat these drives as fat16 (formats them
as 2GB drives) .

As to what cameras accept FAT16 or FAT 32 google helps if it's
not listed in the manual

 ...

I have the following old CF equiped cameras

Canon EOS D60 released mid 2002
Canon Powershot G3 released late 2002
Canon Powershot A80 released late 2003

by dumb trial an error (ie bough the cards found they didn't work in
one or other camera I discovered that:

The D60 and the A80 are limited to FAT16
but the G3, released a whole year before the A80 and only a couple of
months after the D60 has FAT32 support.

Hi Lloyd,

Well I had the same problem only a few weeks ago when the 4GB San
Disk I purchased for ... $18 at BigW, was not accepted by my Lumix
FZ30. Turns out the FZ30 accepts cards up to 2 GB also, like yours.
And what's more my multi-card reader San Disk ImageMate purchased 18
months ago for $69 would not read the 4 GB card also.

I ended up by giving my card to someone whose camera accepts the 4GB
ones, and he insisted in giving me a couple of 2GB cards to
compensate!

I guess that's the price we have to pay for the 'convenience' of a
fast progressing technology.

Best of luck,

Fools rush in where angels fear to tread! Again!

I have Nikon CoolPix 5700 camera that uses CompactFlash. Currently
using

SanDisk 512MB.

Recently in Dubai - with full assurances from the sales person that
it would

work - I bought a 4 GB SanDisk Ultra II Compact Flash.

After insertion the message came up out of memory so I formatted
the card

within the camera.

Still no joy. Should it work with the 5700?

If not does anyone have a use for it. It costs $31 duty free and I
would

accept offers.

Otherwise I will have a 4GB back-up disk; which is useful for ?

Regards

Lloyd
