Re: MYOB Premier to AccountEdge?

2006-11-26 Thread Holipac
The Lacie drive (just an external HDD with an Ethernet connection) is
connected to our network (plugged into router), and we connect to the
network either view network cable or wireless. We then mount this
disk as an attached drive (SMB), and can then open the .myo file
(single user at a time, we don't have a multi-user licence).
Accessing the disk is noticeably slower via wireless, but still quite
Ok. MYOB has a delay when first opening the data file, but otherwise
works fine.

The AccountEdge data file is either single user, in which case it
can reside on the user's machine and only one person can access it
at a time, or multiuser (comes with licence for 3 users) in which
case MYOB have said the data file must reside on a separate drive.
Glenn has kindly informed that he has the data file "on a network
attached Lacie drive. So three users with three Macs could share a
data file on an external drive (and not require an extra Mac)." I
have not thought of that solution myself :( and no-one has
suggested it so far to my knowledge from around Australia! So
that's a good one Glenn!!

Just to clarify that, Glenn, when you say a network attached Lacie
drive, do you mean a drive attached directly to the network or
attached to the Mac which is attached to the network?

AccountEdge is one of the very few instances that I know of where
the Mac community have come out on top price-wise. Premier with 3
user licence is being sold by Officeworks for $1495 while
AccountEdge is priced at $595, which is the price for MYOB's
Accounting Plus (single user, with Payroll). So while many may be
using AE in single user mode for Payroll purposes, we do have the
ability to expand it to multiuser (3) for no extra cost - unless
it is true that MYOB have dropped multiuser for Mac (probably due
to lack of interest?).

When I switched to Account Edge, I just opened up the existing

Customised forms didn't make the conversion - so invoices that

The functionality is basically the same - book-keepers who

Re: MYOB Premier to AccountEdge? The End

2006-11-25 Thread Alex

Well here it is straight from the horse's mouth:

Account Edge version 6 multi-user issue
===

We wish to advise that we are no longer selling network
licences for MYOB AccountEdge. This applies to all versions
for both new and existing customers. Existing customers
can however continue to receive support for their product
over a network.

MYOB recognised that we were not providing an ideal network
solution in MYOB AccountEdge due to limitations in its
response time over a network, which is why we have come to
this decision.

We are still committed to providing software solutions to
MAC clients and we will continue to assess market demand
for a MAC network solution in the Australian market.

Please ensure that you do not promote Account Edge as a
multi-user solution to potential clients and ensure that
they are aware of this information.

Other important points to be aware of:
* AccountEdge v6 is not compatible with Mac OS8 or OS9.
* AccountEdge v6 works on Intel chipped Macs running
  Rosetta(OSX emulation).
* MYOB is working on an native Intel solution for Macs
  at the moment.

Current clients of MYOB AccountEdge should contact
MYOB Customer Support on 1300 555 123 with any questions
or concerns.

Not so cheers, Alex

(but where there is a will there may be a way)

Re: MYOB Premier to AccountEdge?

2006-11-25 Thread Holipac
I ran AccountEdge with the data file on the same iMac, no problems.
Subsequently I now have it on a network attached Lacie drive. So
three users with three Macs could share a data file on an external
drive (and not require an extra Mac). There was indeed an upgrade
process to the datafile, it ran for some time on two separate files,
however I suspect it was to do with an upgrade to v6.0.1 (the version
shipped on disk) from the downloaded version (available for 30 day
trial).

Glenn.
