The bundle also has Mellel, what Peter Hinchliffe demo'ed last night at Sept
meeting...

So if those who were at meeting last night, and want to try Mellel.

Hi Daniel,

Do you know if these applications will work on Lion? If not, how do I find
out before purchasing?

I have just had to throw out a lot of old applications that worked on Snow
Leopard but won't on Lion.

Thanks

Lloyd

Re: [COMMPOST} MacUpdate Bundle - worth a look

2011-09-07 Thread Lloyd White

Thanks Daniel,

One note of caution. I was having a lot of problems with my iMac freezing
when waking from sleep after installing Lion. I applied all the helpful
advice I was given but still the problem had not gone away.

Then I disabled EarthDesk v 5.7.3 and the problem appears to have stopped.
My theory is that EarthDesk was trying to connect to get the latest data
on wake-up and causing the problem. But I could be well off the mark.

But that is the same version of EarthDesk in the bundle, so that is one
application I will not be using again until there is an update.

But then probably tomorrow it will freeze again and prove me wrong! :-))

Best value bundle in ages. I had almost given up on these deals because I
either already had pretty much everything of value on offer, or they had stuff
which held no interest. This time, iStat Menus and PhoneView are the only two I
already own. While I do have Toast 10 from a previous bundle, I have never
updated to 11, so that's a bonus, but Printopia, Data Rescue and Bookends
together are worth far more than the price of admission. The rest are icing on
the cake (plus a little for Daniel :-) ). A great bundle.

Re: [COMMPOST} MacUpdate Bundle - worth a look

2011-09-07 Thread Lloyd White

Hi Ronni,

No, I have not added more RAM yet. You recommended at least 8G of RAM but
my iMac8,1 will only take 6G anyway. So that must limit thousands of
people like me with that model of iMac. I keep looking out for other
people with the same problem.

I kept experimenting and removed every application that would not work
with Lion, (as per your instruction to someone else,) and turned off
EarthDesk. I also completely removed MS Office2008 and am using NeoOffice
(which is great).

So I am now down to using very few applications and I make sure I turn
them all off before sending it to Sleep.

I tempted fate with my comments last night and it froze again this
morning. (But then, it was a cold night :-)) )

Thanks

Lloyd

Re: [COMMPOST} MacUpdate Bundle - worth a look

2011-09-07 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Lloyd,

Yes, the iMac8,1 max. RAM is 6GB, but you only had 4GB installed didn’t you?
Upgrade to the Max 6GB RAM, an extra 2GB would make quite a difference.
RAM is much cheaper now days, I like to run my machines with the most RAM
possible.

Cheers,
Ronni

 Thanks

 Hi Lloyd,

You need plenty of RAM to run programs like EarthDesk, did you upgrade
 your memory as suggested?

 Thanks Daniel,

One note of caution. I was having a lot of problems with my iMac
 freezing
when waking from sleep after installing Lion. I applied all the helpful
advice I was given but still the problem had not gone away.

Then I disabled EarthDesk v 5.7.3 and the problem appears to have
 stopped.

Ronni
