Re: Camera

2019-02-17 Thread Susan Hastings
Hi Bill, here is a link to a an Apple site which gives an idea of how to check
for your Nikon D3200. It is for a previous version of the operating system, but
will be roughly the same method of using Disk Utility to see if either the SD
card or the camera shows up when connected to your MacBook Air.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7393940

Older cameras used a different protocol for connection to computers, but I
imagine that you will have already updated the protocol on the camera for the
previous system and that would be the same for Mojave. You are instructing your
camera to be viewable as a HD.

However, there is no earthly reason for the MacBook Air to not recognise the
files on your SD card reader. I did a quick google search and connecting older
cameras may be a problem, but there should be no problem with loading any
camera files from an SD card reader. This is speaking as an enthusiast
photographer who has used lots of different cameras. I always use an SD card
reader.

If you don’t have a problem with your USB cord and the USB port on your MacBook
Air has been working fine for everything else, the only other problem might be
a slightly corrupted SD card. In other words, try a different SD card in the
reader.

Cheers, Susan.

Re: Camera site?

2010-05-07 Thread Paul Weaver

Thank you WAMUGERS for the suggestions. I've looked at all of them and found
plenty of useful information. I'm actually thinking a waterproof Pentax Optio
W90 which is yet to hit the Perth streets. It also has HD video and time-lapse
video. Oh, and the LED ring-flash around the lens for ultra close-up work looks
great, going by some user pics at dpreview.com. I'd also like to have some
sort of Canon or Pentax SLR with a VR lens which won't break the bank. I've
been consistently pleased with Pentax cameras going back to the 1960s. I
currently use a pretty old Pentax Optio 555 compact and a Nikon D80 SLR. Gotta
go and buy a Lotto ticket and then I can indulge myself with lots of new
cameras like Ken Rockwell does. LOL.

Kind wishes, Paul.

+1 on www.dpreview.com/

While they don't even try to review every camera the cameras they do review
are reviewed in a rigorous manner with comparisons between similarly
marketed/priced models from other manufacturers and, usually, against the
model it replaces.

Re Ken Rockwell's site

I think Ken's site shows the two fundamental issues of not just equipment
choice but of the whole realm of photography

1: There is no one true way
2: Every warm body with their own vanity site not only believes they know
the one true way but will not bdy shut up trying to tell you that.

At least Ken doesn't even try to rationalize his inherent self contradictory
posts... As his right that camera XX is the best camera ever and, 2 month
later that camera AB is the best camera ever ...
Or that you never need a tripod then tells you in his large format reviews
that tripods are essential ...
Each opinion is right... With in their own narrowly defined field

Re: Camera site?

2010-05-06 Thread Susan Hastings

Hi Paul, if you go to Ken Rockwell's site, be aware that he is often taking a
'tongue in cheek' approach with extreme statements about cameras. He doesn't
expect you to take what he says too literally.

I second the reference to www.dpreview.com. It can sometimes steer you away
from cameras that sound good when you look at the manufacturers's sites, but
actually may have flaws which will impact on your style of shooting. Usually
its a matter of choosing a camera which best suits you - they all have
limitations.

I also like www.bythom.com, but this is mostly a Nikon site. I find him more
balanced and thoughtful than Ken, plus he's a Mac user. He has helpful comments
about the usefulness of the iPad for photographers.

regards, Susan.

Greetings! I have owned and used Nikon And Pentax camera's for many years.
The low end of all the brands are for home use. You did not mention whether
you wanted a single lens reflex or just a reflex camera. Cannon is also a
good brand.

Re: Camera site?

2010-05-06 Thread Eugene
Hi Paul,

I really like

It allows you to compare the picture quality of any 2 cameras face to face.
Things like low light, lighting with flash, detail etc. A camera is all about
the quality of the pictures and this site compares just that.

 Regards,
 Eugene

Hi Rod,

I don't think the update has done this.
You hit the 'p' key? and are in Quick Preview mode?

If you search the manual for Quick Preview, you get this on page 160:

"When using Quick Preview mode, however, there are some things you
can’t do, such as make adjustments to images."

Re: camera cards

2007-04-09 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi Rod

When i went to China I took over 800 photos and that was only a couple of weeks
I
think you should get another Card or two, have a look on ebay :) I have just
bit
$45 for a 4gb card.

I have the ipod adaptor but have not used it yet and I also took my macbook and
copied the pics to that each night but left them on the card as extra security.

Have a great time it will be fun.

Roger

Camera Electronics in Stirling St (East Perth) have been around
for donkeys years and might be a good start even if they handball
you on to someone else as I don't know if they have "gone digital"
yet. They were, at my last visit a year or so back, still pretty
much exclusively film camera repairers. Also they tend to deal with
mostly professional photographers so their pricing is ... well...
exclusive.

RE: Camera Repair?

2005-07-11 Thread julie pheasant
Hi
The same thing happened to me with my Canon - though it wasn't digital.
However - when I went into Gerry Gibb's in Camerhouse Cannington - they did
say they fixed digital. They did fix mine pretty quickly and it didn't cost
the earth. Give them a call- can't hurt.

Cheers
