Re: Can't download Pdf files from Safari
I have discovered a down side to opening PDFs with Safari, as opposed to Adobe Reader (at least, it is a down side in my opinion). That is, with Adobe Reader, I can highlight, copy and paste text from PDFs directly into other apps, such as Mail. Using Safari, the copied text has to be pasted into TextEdit first, then copied again in order to paste into Mail. Thanks for advice about downloading pdfs. As suggested, I removed the Adobe plugin and solved the problem. Funny I would have thought the plugin would be needed! I certainly abandoned the Adobe plugin years ago. The Safari reader has little to no visible interface (except for a minimal translucent toolbar in 3.x), but most of what you want is achievable via the contextual menu. -- Peter HinchliffeApwin Computer Services FileMaker Pro Solutions Developer Perth, Western Australia Phone (618) 9332 6482Fax (618) 9332 0913 Mac because I prefer it -- Windows because I have to. -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:wamug-unsubscr...@wamug.org.au

Re: Can't download Pdf files from Safari
Hi Dick, When I go to webpages with a .pdf, all I get is a blank (black) page. I think this might have arisen when I upgraded to OS 10.4.11 and I have also upgraded to Safari 3.0.4 and Adobe Reader 9.1.2. If you need to see the PDFs on website, you can control-click on each links, which will display a popup menu, from which you choose 'Download Linked File'. Then you can double-click the files to open them in Adobe Reader or Preview. Regarding the problem with Safari, the current version of Safari 3 is 3.2.3, but you say you have the older version 3.0.4. It sounds like an issue with the Adobe Reader web plug-in, but I don't know specifically. It is interesting that you get black blank pages instead of white blank pages -- hopefully this will help someone identify the solution for you. Some of these PDF files are Megabytes long and will not go from black to file until it is all downloaded . Using James method above is a better way because you should get the Download window showing you the download progress .
