Hi, I've been using an external Lacie drive for some time, connecting

Recently I've had a file that appeared to have a bad sector in it,

The message I get from the Finder is:
The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in smb://
laciedrive/mydrive could not be read or written. (Error code -36)

The Lacie drive is connected to our network via Ethernet. I am
connecting to to it using smb
 smb://laciedrive/mydrive

Have tried rebooting the drive and reconnecting.

Anyone recognise what is happening here? Is it likely I have a faulty
 file or drive?

 Glenn.

Re: Error from Lacie drive

2007-05-23 Thread Glenn Nicholas

In case this is useful to someone else in the future ...

To resolve this error, I connected the drive via USB. Picked up the
specific file involved and it was fine.

The error I initially received suggested a sector of the file was
corrupt. Then the error (-36) suggested the drive might be at fault.

But turns out it was the network connection.

Glenn.

Lacie drives are known to suffer power problems . You could check
the power pack is plugged in properly ,

and try a substitute if you can access one.
