But, anyway, yes, checking all the settings was my first stop - before trying other devices. Have you tried: Turning FaceTime OFF back ON with successful activation combined with A) Soft (turn iPhone OFF/ON) - Restart and B)Hard Restart 1. Press Hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds 2. Ignore the Red Slider that appears on the screen and keep holding both buttons until the Apple Logo appears The iPhone will restart. The first method is a 'soft reset' only and leaves running programs in memory. The second method completely powers down your iPhone and also clears the RAM and cache. I thought that the only possible things that might affect the phone/phone connection but not the connection to other devices might be the memory/cache side of things - so I jumped straight to the Hard reset for both devices. Trying after both devices had hard reset gives the same result - Facetime tries to connect then gives a connection lost' message. If I have my iPhone and iPad side by side and Georgie tries to facetime me both devices come up with the ring and the request to Facetime. If I accept on the iPad everything works fine but if I accept on the iPhone, both phones show as connecting and then get the connection lost message. Interestingly, after the hard reset, both phones still fired up with the same apps running that had been running before the reset - which I found surprising - I would have thought that if all RAM/cache was cleared they would initially fire up with no apps running?! Can you connect if you switch from a normal cellular 'Voice' call to a 'FaceTime' call while connected to the WiFi network? A FaceTime button appears in the normal call controls to start a FaceTime session with the call in progress? In this case, with the cellular voice call active, attempting to start a Facetime session with the Facetime button again triggers the request for facetime and accepting gives a connecting message - but then my phone gets the message Facetime unavailable and Georgie's phone gets a facetime ended message - also my phone shows a question mark in the middle of the facetime button, whereas Georgie's doesn't. The slight differences in messages could be down to the fact that Georgie's phone is running 6.1 whereas mine is running 6.1.3. Note - I do not want to upgrade to IOS7 since I don't use iCloud and want to retain wireless synching to my iMac - which has been removed in IOS7. I mean, it is not really that big a deal to us in that we have no need to Facetime each other when we are in the same house ;o) - it is more of a worry because it surely SHOULD work - if it works to the computer and to the iPad to/from either phone then why not between the phones. The next thing to try is for one of us to go to some other public wifi zone to see if the problem is inherent between the 2 phones or only the 2 phones on the same wifi network. To place a FaceTime call between two of your Apple devices, you will simply need to add a new email address to one of the devices. This will allow FaceTime to differentiate between the two and place a call to a specific device. You can add a new email address to FaceTime in the iPad settings. Simply select FaceTime from the left-side menu and tap your finger where it reads Add Another Email... Once you add a new email address, you must verify it by going to that email's inbox. By default, all devices connected to the same Apple ID utilise the primary email address associated with that Apple ID. This emails they'll all ring if a FaceTime call is placed to that email address. It also means you can't place a class between two devices, just as you can't use one home phone to place a call to your house and answer it with another phone. But luckily, Apple has provided a rather easy workaround for placing FaceTime calls on the same Apple ID. There should be an email waiting for you from Apple with a link that will verify the email address. (If you need to send the verification email again, you can do so from the same settings screen where you added the email.) Re: Facetime
No message. The dialers end tries and rings and rings out. Nothing from the receiver. Maybe a message but not aware. Hes in Bali for the next few days, so wont be able to do any further testing. Thanks for all your help todate John Sent from my iPad On 03/05/2012, at 7:15 PM, Ronda Brown ro...@mac.com wrote: Hi John, You have not told us what message you receive ... Whether it says 'connection unavailable' or ? You could try changing the DNS settings on both iPads. Set the DNS address on both iPads to run FaceTime to 8.8.8.8. To do this, Go to the settings on the iPad and then find the wireless network you are using. Then tap on the blue arrow which is next to the network name. There you will be able to access the DNS number, just change it and save the settings. Then go to FaceTime and see if you can connect and use FaceTime. Note: write down the DNS that currently appear in Network settings in case you need to revert back to them. Re: facetime activation for itouch
Hi Malcolm, I had a quick look on the MacRumours forums and they suggested a hard reset of the iPod Touch. Here are instructions for a hard reset: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for about ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
