Thanks Alex.

I did look at that option, particularly as my MacBook does not have a
DVD burner only a DVD reader. I've been led to believe that it's not
possible to use an external drive for an operating system upgrade. I
would be interested to hear otherwise.

That, plus the cost of the software is almost half the cost of a

Hi Susan

That's a lovely offer, thank you so much.

I could easily come to East Perth sometime when it suits you. I could
bring my MacBook and the Mac Box Set with me to make sure it is going
to work before perhaps borrowing your drive to complete the
installation. That would be so good.

Best wishes

Re: Mac Box Set

2009-12-15 Thread Christopher S

Hi Laura,

I can assure you you can install Mac OS X 10.6 via an external DVD drive as
I had to 2 weeks ago due to an original MacBook's internal drive being
flaky. So you could still consider the external drive option - as you can
get USB drives on eBay for around $60 or locally for a little bit more.

Regards,

Chris.

Re: Mac Box Set

2009-12-15 Thread Laura Webb

Thanks Alex.

I did look at that option, particularly as my MacBook does not have a
DVD burner only a DVD reader. I've been led to believe that it's not
possible to use an external drive for an operating system upgrade. I
would be interested to hear otherwise.

Because of a problem with my MacBook optical drive I am unable to
use the software, nor can I return it because, obviously, it has
been opened. To repair the optical drive will cost at least $350.
That, plus the cost of the software is almost half the cost of a
new MacBook!!

Why don't you get an external DVD drive and use the disks. Should be
cheaper than either option
