You're welcome Alastair, Good to hear you have iPhoto working correctly again. Did you do the rest of my suggestion? Once you are satisfied the new iPhoto Library is functioning correctly delete the old iPhoto Library and MAKE A BACKUP of the New iPhoto Library. But, don't delete it until you are sure. Check in your Home Pictures - that there is only ONE iPhoto Library and that it is the NEW correctly functioning iPhoto Library. If it is: Delete the backup of iPhoto Library that is on your External backup Drive (remember to empty the trash before disconnecting the drive so it is properly deleted from the drive). Then connect the drive again to your computer and backup the complete iPhoto Library Folder in your Home Pictures to your external Backup Drive. Remember: You are only as good as your last backup! Hi Ronni Haven't actually deleted the old one yet until I have time to check thoroughly - but new library is working just fine. It's actually on a firewire drive (not the same one as the backup) so not in home pictures. This has been the case for ages without a hitch so I'm thinking this wasn't a cause of the problems. Hi Ronni No I had ticked 3 of the 4 available (iPhoto 6, os10.4.11) on some googled advice, so orphans not included. Trying again now, then going out, so will report back later. Re: iphoto gone spoggly
Hi Alastair, Hmm Ok ... 1. The New iPhoto Library you have created is working correctly? 2. But, you now need to get your Original Photos from the Back Up Library? If this is correct. 3. Go into the Back Up iPhoto Library and find the Originals Folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the NEW iPhoto Window and it will create them in the new Library. 4. Quit iPhoto 5. Relaunch iPhoto and let us know if everything is OK. If you had made changes to photos in the old backup Library, you might then be able to bring the Modified folder across. Once you are satisfied the new iPhoto Library is functioning correctly delete the old iPhoto Library and MAKE A BACKUP of the New iPhoto Library. But, don't delete it until you are sure. -- Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos. Put it this way. Go to your Pictures Folder. If it's in the iPhoto Library Folder leave it alone. -- Cheers, Ronni On 23/09/2009, at 11:40 AM, mince and pud wrote: Hi Ronni Hm the iphoto outlook is about as sunny as the weather in the hills this morning. I have at least learned a few things... I deleted the preference file which gave me a brand new library. Imported some pics and watched a finder window while it did its stuff - sure enough a folder called 2001 is created within Imports and all the files go into it. But when it has finished, Imports folder disappears and the images move to Data 2009 Roll 1 which is as it should be. This is the bit my library has forgotten how to do. Unfortunately when I pointed iphoto at the backup library it has the same problem. I had imported these last few rolls without opening any images and as the thumbnails were fine - at first - didn't know anything was amiss until the thumbs subsequently vanished. 2 different cameras used so it's not the memory card I have not been rummaging around in the library. I know that There be Dragons... So I suppose the question is - is there a painless way of dragging the pictures in the old, corrupt library into the shiny new, working one, bearing in mind the dangers of rummaging? Your thoughts welcome best alastair On 22 Sep 2009, at 14:10, Ronda Brown wrote: Hi Alastair, Rebuilding the iPhoto Database didn't work. It's looking like the library database, Library6.iPhoto could be corrupted, or a file is. Have you tried deleting the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file,or moving it to your desktop ? Quit iPhoto before you do, then locate it in Home Library Preferences - com.apple.iPhoto.plist drag it to your desktop or trash (but don't empty the trash yet). Then restart your computer Then relaunch iPhoto 1. The backup iPhoto Library you say you have, was that working correctly? You might have to revert back to this backup. 2. Is it only since you have tried to import these new rolls into iPhoto that things have gone wrong? 3. Are you importing from the same camera? 4. You haven't touched anything in the iPhoto Library folder in Finder have you? I'm thinking you might have to go back to your iPhoto Library backup, if it was working without any problems. iPhoto 6 I remember was a flaky version of iPhoto, it has improved with each version since. (pause) I imported another, different roll, to see if the import system was working now. It imported fine and all worked, but the files were in a new subfolder of Imports. Quit and relaunch - again asked to import unimported photos (I said yes but then don't import duplicates) - the newest roll is still there but no files linked to thumbs. Of the four identical rolls, one is now blank, one is blank except for two thumbs (huh?) and two are still complete, but no longer linked to anything.
