Thanks Peter,

I just read those instructions on a website a few minutes ago.
It’s almost like you repeated them !!

I haver printed them out and will try when it cools down in my garage.

Re: New iPhone 6s with my Car Bluetooth ?

2015-11-21 Thread petercrisp

Ok, that is frustrating to be sure. I would try as per the link here
as a tip.

I would also try the following if it were me. Select the Bluetooth
pairing for the car on the phone as it is and "Forget this device"
and remove the previous pairing of the 6S phone within the car. Do
an iPhone shutdown and reboot, Start the whole process over again and
reset the pairing from phone to car. See how that all goes.

What car is it Stephen, Model and Year and what Media options do you
have in the car? I presume you've read the car manual about "auto

Re: new iPhone

2010-11-28 Thread cm

Something I forgot to add, Kevin, was that I chose the large quota so that I
could use the iPhone for internet tethering if I was out and about or at a
client's site. Internet tethering is where a computer, such as a MacBook or
iMac, connects to the internet over the 3G cell phone network, using the iPhone
as a modem. This has in fact come in very handy on a few occasions.

Cheers,

Hi Kevin,

I have 500Mb but hardly dent it. At home and work the phone always locks onto
wireless. I do all my e-mailing through my computer anyway. Only a few push
notifications come through the phone plan, it almost seems a waste for my
needs.

It is reassuring though having the reserve there in case i do need it.

Hi Kevin,

I think that 1 GB will be ample. I have a 1 GB Vodafone plan. I am a frequent

I have disabled wireless to get more use of my phone data plan quota and to get

Hi Kevin,

You lucky man. I get by very happily on 200mb, and often don't use half of
that. All my emails come onto the iphone and I never worry about data limits
wanting to surf the net, get mapping etc, or what I want to do data usage wise.
1Gb will be plenty indeed.

1. As others have noted, the phone may be locked to the original carrier,
so you may have to get it unlocked (IMEI code).
2. To use it on a 3G network, you will need a 3G compatible SIM card -
there are no porkies in relation to this one, the release of the 3G iphone
was associated with plenty of complaints from persons who tried using
existing SIMS and could only connect to the 2G network, but of course
thought the iPhone, rather than the incompatible SIM, was the problem.
3. Note that the increasing use of 3G phones for data is leading to network
congestion on towers, leading to call drop outs - Optus with their cheaper
data plans, thus attracting more 3G users, have been particularly plagued
with this problem. Increased upgrade of more towers (which has occurred)
may have alleviated the complaints somewhat, although there is still a
steady stream at whirlpool.net.au. There seems to be have been less
complaints in Perth than elsewhere, possibly because of the relatively flat
terrain, meaning that a 3G phone can make effective use of more than one
tower to supply its data (an advantage over 2G technology, although all
towers support 2G, so there is a wider spread of towers). Your possibly
more hilly environment in Victoria may cause you some local 3G problems.

Re: New iPhone

2009-05-18 Thread Eugene

Hi Peter,

all mobiles can be locked not just the iPhone. To lock a phone merely
means that the service provider who sold the phone has locked it onto
their network and the phone cannot be used on another network until it
gets unlocked. You need to find out if your son's phone is locked by
installing another SIM into it and seeing if it works.

Jailbreaking is another issue entirely. Apple prevents unauthorised
apps from running on the iPhone. This is to ensure that the app
complies with their predetermined use policy. If you jailbreak your
iPhone you circumvent this system to enable other apps to run. This
may void warranty and may brick your phone. Chances are that the next
time their is an update to the iPhone's OS you would have to re-
jailbreak it. Your decision.

Regarding using different SIMs in the iPhone. When I purchased mine
from Telstra they informed me I needed a new SIM for the iPhone. I'm
not certain if this was for their NextG network or the iPhone itself
or if it was just a porky. Having said that I am aware of other people
putting other SIMs into unlocked iPhones without problems,

As far as your comment that you have little use for themobile phone,
you must remember that the phone part of the iPhone is a very small
component of a very handy device that has many other very useful
functions. My iPhone gets used as an actual phone about 20% of the time.

  Regards,
  Eugene

they are too expensive for my very moderate phone usage, but hey I
got one for free, may as well use it] so I am a complete newbie with
this.

So my first questions are:
1	Can I insert the SIM card from another [non Apple] phone into this
iPhone to see if it works and if so will it be just recognised by
the telco as the other non Apple phone and operate as any normal
phone. Boy, hope that makes sense.
2	Can I just go to the telco I decide upon with my empty iPhone and
purchase a SIM card from them and my iPhone will just work.
3	I have seen the terms "jailbreak" "unlock" etc referring to
iPhones but I glossed over them. I gather it means that my iPhone
may/would be "locked" onto a particular provider/telco. How do I
ascertain if this is so and if so how do I make it work with an
Australian telco.

See how newbie I am.

Any advice appreciated.

Re: New iPhone

2009-05-18 Thread RJDarts

Morning,

1 Yes, go for it. Just remember it may not have 3G data connection or
could be expensive so use WiFi for this.
2 Yes if phone is not locked to sons provider, which will be answered
by above. Then in some locked situations there could be a sister
company in Oz.
3 Jailbreak is a system of unlocking phone and restrictions Apple via
AT&T requests to remove some services, and add others they just did
not put in. Be careful with 3G version many phones damaged and the
minute you attempt no warranty and or repair from Apple. Works very
well on original iPhone have not seen a 3G done yet.

Cheers!

I have been given a used 16gb 3G iPhone by my son who bought and
used it in Singapore where he lives. He retained the SIM card for

they are too expensive for my very moderate phone usage, but hey I
got one for free, may as well use it] so I am a complete newbie with
this.

So my first questions are:
1	Can I insert the SIM card from another [non Apple] phone into this
iPhone to see if it works and if so will it be just recognised by
