Re: Using Apple TV to display Photos

2019-07-17 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Alan,
The instructions below that I gave you for Making Slideshows is for your ATV 4
1080p unit.

“In the ATV 4K The obvious change, of course, is the adoption of the 4K
resolution. Whereas the fourth-generation Apple TV maxed out at 1080p video at
60 frames per second, the new 4K model supports a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160.
This means you’ll get much crisper and smoother video than previously, assuming
you have a 4K television.”

Kind Regards,
Ronni

Hi Ronni

Thank you for the instructions.

After a very full week I am now looking at the issues I have with Apple TV.
(BTW, I have a 4th Gen ATV, not a 4K model.)

The initial impetus for a photos slideshow was that the Aerial screensavers had
become very boring. A closer look disclosed that there are only 5 Aerial
videos working. There used to be about 50! More investigation and googling
needed...

Re: Using Apple TV to display Photos

2019-07-14 Thread Ronda Brown
Hello Alan,

Apple TV 4K - Making Slideshows

While viewing an album or stream in the Photos app, select Play Slideshow in
the upper-right corner to start a slideshow. You’ll be taken to the Slideshow
screen. If you select Start Slideshow, the slideshow begins right away, but you
can also set whether to shuffle photos (display them in random order) and
repeat photos, and pick themes and transitions.

Once a slideshow has begun, press Menu to end it.

You can also create video slideshows in Photos on the Mac that can be exported
into iTunes for playback on the Apple TV:
1. In Photos, select the pictures, albums, or events you want to turn into a
slideshow.
2. Choose File > Create > Slideshow.
3. Give your slideshow a name and click OK.
4. Photos shows the new slideshow in the Projects pane (or selects it in the
Projects sidebar category, if the sidebar is showing).
5. As desired, set up a theme, pick some music, and set up a duration.
6. Click Export in the upper-right corner, or choose File > Export > Export
Slideshow.
7. In the Save dialog, type a name for the exported slideshow and choose an
export folder from the Where pop-up menu (the default Movies folder is fine).
8. From the Format pop-up menu, choose High Definition (1080p).
9. Select “Automatically send to iTunes.”
10. Click Save.

The export process may take several minutes—or longer—depending on how many
files you’ve selected for the slideshow.

After the export finishes, the slideshow appears in your Home Videos collection
in iTunes. If you’ve turned on Home Sharing, you can access it on the Apple TV
in the Computers app. Look under Home Videos.

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: Using Apple TV to display Photos

2019-07-13 Thread Stephen Chape
Hello Alan.
I have imported photos into iMovie to make a slideshow with added music for
quite a while.
Once the project is complete I then share it with iTunes.
Once in iTunes it is easily played via Apple TV to the Television.

iCloud never becomes involved.

Using Apple TV to display Photos

2019-07-13 Thread Alan Smith
Is it possible to create a slideshow of photos from a selected album to display
on Apple TV - without using iCloud?

Before the Aerial screensaver series it was a simple matter to send a selection
of photos to Apple TV. Now bored with Aerial and I want to use my own photos.
However it appears, with recent “improvements”, that photos can only be
streamed from iCloud.

What happens to iCloud streaming when internet connection is down?

I have an Apple TV 4 (now called Apple TV HD?) with 32GB memory. Can this be
used to store photos?
Using SSD Mac Mini (2014) as the media server.
