Gomer the mechanic

2006-08-22 Thread Janet Anderson
>>>When did Gomer know cars? I am not being obtuse or fa-sish-us, just forgot
>>>the episode(s) when he did.<<<

Well, a good example is "Gomer the House Guest" when Wally fired Gomer because
he spent too much time jawing with the customers about the 30-cent bet he had
with Bertie Blush (or was it Birdie? After all, when he got excited, he
sounded just like a jay bird.). And thirty cents ain't hay, ya know!
Consequently, when Gomer was staying at Andy's house, everyone who needed work
done on their vehicles -- Luther, Merle Dean, Willy Jack, etc. -- showed up at
Andy's house so that Gomer could do the repairs. Business fell off at Wally's
so much that Wally rehired Gomer and even threw in an extra burner and an
icebox for his kitchenette! (With all those improvements, Gomer might even
think about getting married.) Gomer must have been pretty adept at fixing
cars, since all his customers came to find him instead of going to Wally.

Andy & church going

I assumed that Andy missed any Sunday service that he had to work.
Sheriffin' is a 24-7 job. Andy had no time off, esp. if Barney and

I'll be at Mayberry Days too - WBMUTBB Tees - WBMUTBB Auction

2006-08-22 Thread Allan Newsome
Hey Folks,

With the self promotion and friend promotion we're breaking into, I
wanted to let everybody know the "Floyd" will be at Mayberry Days
signing autographsahwhere ever you can find him. The Mayberry
Deputy, Goober, Otis, Opie and Howard Sprague will be signing too so
y'all be on the look out. :)

Really, I'm glad to see that WBMUTBB's own Kathryn Darden (she'll be in
town as Flora during Mayberry Days as well) will be selling and signing
her Mayberry poem book but I believe that we *may* have gotten a little
heavy on the promotions department so lets just lay back a bit. We've
had 4 mentions in the last few days on this one so "tick a lock" for a
while. Another mention toward Mayberry Days would be good but for
nowlets let this one go.

That said, I'll now promote out WBMUTBB T-shirts. ha haha If you want
'em by Mayberry Days, you'll need to order in the next few weeks. It
seems to be taking about 7 days to get the orders if you're cheap like
me and use the $5 shipping. ha ha. So order early and save on shipping.

Also, remember the WBMUTBB Chapter Auction is coming up at Mayberry
Days. If you have items to donate, contact Jeff Koontz
([EMAIL PROTECTED]) as he is and always has been our point man for the
auction.

That's it from WBMUTBB HQ.

Does anyone here work in law enforcment, or some other agency that has the
ability to check and see how many of the 50 states have issued a real license
plate with JL-327? When I had my squad car, I had Missouri license plate
JL-327. I believe Jim Clark still has it for Tennessee; Jack Fellenzer used to
have the Iowa JL-327 tag on his squad car, but last I heard he had moved to
Arkansas so maybe someone else in Iowa has it now.

I guess it's also possible, albeit unlikely, that somebody somewhere happened
to get that tag number by accident (by which I mean they didn't order
personalized plates, they just live in some state where the plates have 2
letters followed by 3 digits, and they got it by random chance).

TAGS is my all time fav show. Ozzie and Harriet is number two. It's amazing
to me that TV Land doesn't show them. They were on the air for FOURTEEN

Later on he knew all about them and could seemingly diagnose problems just by
taking a quick peek. (Most real life mechanics have to take something out
first.) In the episode where he loses his job at Wally's and comes to live
with
the Taylors, he can diagnose problems just by someone giving him a verbal
description and even the squeak one particular vehicle makes when the driver
shakes it. Maybe he was just a (very) quick learner.

Hi all. This is totally way off the subject from what anyone has been talking
about , but I got a question. I have thought and thought, I even used two
different size buckets and a #4 wash tub, but I am still perplexed! In the
episode "The Haunted House" why did Andy make a big deal out of the wall paper

If anyone could explain how this was a "clue" I sure would appreciate it.

Mystery actor and Halloween

2006-08-22 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (SBC-OPS)
That mystery actor sitting on the bull dozer in Aunt Bee the crusader,
was none other than Tom Jacobs..who is actually a brother to Danny
Thomas. You will see him all over if you keep watching. He gets a
long look when Barney says "What's a matter? Haven't you ever seen a
man take off a dress before? (after breaking out of Bank vault I think)
I think Paul mentioned a while back that he speaks in Goober
takes a car apart "How'd they do it Sheriff" and one other time when
someone got on a bus...but he is always in the background.

There is not a Halloween episode, but there are several references to
Trick or Treat..so they must have celebrated it. (when they all dressed
up for the movie in the first season). When Andy put on the fishing

Martin. In Gomer the Houseguest episode 97 I believe. Everyone was
bringing their cars to Andy's house where Gomer was staying..and Wally
lost all his business when he fired Gomer for taking too much and
slowing things down.

Gomer could tell from his second floor window what was wrong just by the
sound.

Andy led all the cars and Gomer back to Wally, where he rehired him.

Greetings all,

I claim to be Florida's most avid Andy Griffith Show fan because of my
car tag, JL-327, but here is something I must have missed.

JOE GRITTON wrote -

Crazy me, I don't remember that! I thought Gomer always referred to
his cousin Goober as the genius mechanic, putting a car engine on a
boat (that's fast on water), not knowing anything but gas & oil, and
Gomer was the go-between with Malcolm Tucker in "Man In A Hurry". Of
course Goober WAS the car genius. My favorite Goober episode is #144,
Goober Takes a Car Apart. Floyd is perfect (I heard it then, it
sounded like a sneeze) and Goober's "Cha-Wheat" & "Pucka Pucka like
ole' banney rooster" get me every time! I always wondered if Gilley
Walker learned to drive so fast from running from the Germans on
Hogan's Heroes?

When did Gomer know cars? I am not being obtuse or fa-sish-us, just
forgot the episode(s) when he did.

Helen the Authoress

2006-08-22 Thread Ken Anderson
Seeing I am in the process of having a book published I decided to watch
"Helen the Authoress" last night. I must admit I am going through some of
the same anxieties Helen experienced. There are so many things to do and
think about, I find most of my time is spent on my book and I am not having
time for my wife. Very similar to Helen and Andy. However, my wife is very
understanding, so I don't think things will get nearly as bad as they did
for Andy and Helen.

I would like to mention to any of you who may be considering doing a book,
that we have an excellent person among us could help you greatly. When I
decided to go with Westview Publishing, I requested to have Kathryn Darden
be my author representative. In case you have forgotten, Kathryn put
together the delightful book "A Tribute to Mayberry". I have a number of
poems in her book. Kathryn will be having two Book Signings at Mayberry Days
of Friday, September 22 and Saturday, September 24 at Page's Book Store.

For more information you can check out
http://www.christianactivities.com/mayberry/story.asp?ID=5862 Kathryn
hopes to have copies of my book with her if they are ready by then.
Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend Mayberry Days this year.

So if you are considering a book in the future, be sure to request Kathryn
as your author representative. She does a fantastic job with publicity
packages for inspirational and/or Christian books, and I am sure she would
be more than happy to help anyone get started.
